capital murder kind of criminal sir chumbawamba is before my generation Im 26 the band it self is 40 at this point 82 is when they popped into the scene
Driving on the bypass to Damascus I saw a preacher trying to hitch a ride With a pair of broken wings And a suitcase full of sins He gathered up his dreams and jumped inside Then pulling Malatesta from his suitcase He lifted up his voice and began to sing 'My hymns of desperation lead to action... And this is where the serious fun begins.' We don't go to God's house anymore Saw the light and walked right out the door We don't go to God's house It's more fun in the dog house We don't go to God's house anymore Well driving on, I tasted sweet salvation As we sung away the pulpit and the past The preacherman and me We sang such harmonies The highway of my life went by so fast The preacher, he got off at the crossroads He said, 'This is where I end, and you begin' He left behind the wings and the Malatesta And the memory of the songs we both did sing We don't go to God's house anymore Saw the light and walked right out the door We don't go to God's house It's more fun in the doghouse We don't go to God's house anymore
Brilliant song, critical of religion but sounds like a classic church song. Much like Bruce Springstreen's "Born inthe USA" which a lot of superficial listeners think os some kind of patriotic song when it is a wrenching song about the loss of war, cf Vietnam and the battle of Khe San...
I love another anti religious song by them Look! No Stings! 🎵🎵 Have your fun whilst your alive You won't get nothing when you die 🎵🎵 🎵🎵 So have a good time all the time Because you won't get nothing when you die 🎵🎵
No Seorez, you're not the only one who loves this song who does not hate religion. Chumbawamba is one of the most underrated groups ever. I cringe when someone refers to them as a one hit wonder. They have at least 25 good-great songs.
+micmac274 oh cmon that's harsh for what it is tubthunping is one hell of a sing along anthem. it's not their political master piece of punk folk and pop that they are capable of but cmon, it's tubthunping, try and not sing along.
I'm more into metal, which regularly gets the criticism "it's not singing, just people screaming and/or shouting." So I hate tubthumping because the worst heavy metal sounds similar. And it was only the single that I was talking about.
This is my favorite Chumbawamba song in the entire cataloge of their work, and I think I have everything! My second favorite is the AMAZING cover of 'Safetypin Stuck In My Heart" by Patrik Fitzgerald, but I do love his version of that one more. Chumbawamba is my favorite band ever! Greeetings from Tennessee, USA!
Nor do i hold grudges that is. But am very interested other peoples belief and how they got there. I don't know how much it matters to you how you came to your beliefs but would listen if you are willing to help me understand thanks.
I'm probably a typical agnostic: intellectually, I have examples that illustrate how absurd it is to think there's an intelligent being who's created all this, esp when I take a look at earth's history or space (did you know Pangaea was only one of a handful of super-continents? thinking about that is like trying to understand that space 'goes on forever') No, there is no god, but I hope there is. Religions don't bother me at all until they force their rules on the rest of us, and they've been pushing the rest of us for what -- 60 years now? (when the Moral Majority helped elect Reagan).
It's really weird to hear a song that is critical of Christianity, yet if you were for some reason unable to hear the lyrics, the music particularly their harmony, sounds exactly like a Christian song. They've actually done this on several songs, particularly English Rebel Songs.
Great music as ever from a band for whom I have the utmost respect. Personally , though, I still choose to be in God's house every sunday and would not miss it for all the doghouses in the world.
This sounds best when it's on the ipod & you're staring up at cathedral ceilings. York Minster's a good one. I've no idea if that proves that there's a transcendent being who directs my life or not.
I think it was recorded especially for the album. Haven't been able to find it anywhere since. It was recorded with American Anarchist band alabama 3 so it may be on one ofr their albums.
Chumbawamba released this song in 1998, just after their extremely successful Tubthumper. But this song is not in Tubthumper. Neither is Top of the World, also released in 1998, on Uneasy Listening.
Song makes me think of how I feel not listening to the Radio is a lot like how I felt when I walked out on the Jehovah's witnesses. jfc. it's more fun in the dog house
@gREENbUILT21 Yep just stumbled on it, not disappointed. Love it particularly when religion gets a bashing. This shall be dedicated to the victims of sexual abuse at the hands of the churches.
"Saw the light and walked right out the door." In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:4-5
This is why you dont judge bands by their one hit. Criminally underrated
capital murder kind of criminal sir chumbawamba is before my generation Im 26 the band it self is 40 at this point 82 is when they popped into the scene
Christianity has taken from many traditions. Folk songs predated Christianity. Chumbawamba are reclaiming.
@@brianpersinger no chumbawamba
Honestly I view tubthumping as being quite fitting for their discography, it sounds like a working class anthem about never giving up in our fight.

Their worst song gets up the charts. That's how it is sometimes.
+micmac274 oh cmon that's harsh for what it is tubthunping is one hell of a sing along anthem. it's not their political master piece of punk folk and pop that they are capable of but cmon, it's tubthunping, try and not sing along.
Wouldn't call Tubthumping their worst, but they've done a lot better.
I'm more into metal, which regularly gets the criticism "it's not singing, just people screaming and/or shouting." So I hate tubthumping because the worst heavy metal sounds similar. And it was only the single that I was talking about.
They did a lot better. But you are right. Tubthumping was a good song. But they played punk, folk, rock and everything in between.
This is my favorite Chumbawamba song in the entire cataloge of their work, and I think I have everything! I'm an anarchist and I look good doing it and chumbawaba look good singing it
Interested to know if your anarchist views are still being held currently?
It's never made more sense to be an anarchist than right now.@@coltonaustin2376
love this song love the meaning .it makes me feel good that i am an atheist
Amen to that.
Yep yep yeppity yep!
I'm a believer and I like the song and it's message. I don't hold grudges against people based off their beliefs

Well, the devil has all the best tunes!
Yeah it's an ironic gospel song.
Cf. "Every Sperm is Sacred"
LOL!! I could totally see someone singing this in church.... till they figure out the words and throw em out!
Great song.
If you just stumbled upon this song PLEASE give it a chance...you won't be disappointed. Its more fun in the doghouse
Chumbawamba you rocked my YOUTH!
Time for my goosebump medication. Every single bloody time!!! Beautiful beautiful sounds.
One of my favorite songs, I love singing it aloud while riding my bike.
This song is just too beautiful... Maybe one day I'll actually read Malatesta
What is a Malatesta? I can't find anything except the Italian family and slang meaning stubborn person.

A friend recently reminded me of this band, wow what have I missed?
One of the great hymns of atheism.
Getting a bit of alabama3 vibe, great stuff!
+eck macdonald don't dance to techno anymore
Long ago I read somewhere that they contributed to this song.
Lets have it right. Alabama 3 got a bit of a chumba vibe. They were gigging when Larry & Rev & all were still in short trousers!
On the cd it states it is a collaboration with A3.
Ohhh man, this guys are great!!!
Post more from this , its a bloody grand cd
One of favs
Absolutely brilliant music.
I love you chumbawamba !
Unique music, that's for sure.
Enjoyed listening to this song. First class .
Beautiful.
I think it was recorded especially for the album. Haven't been able to find it anywhere since. It was recorded with American Anarchist band alabama 3 so it may be on one ofr their albums.
Alabama 3 were a British communist band, not an American anarchist band
NYC saying, great song! hope Covid doesn't get me.
Brilliant :)
nice song :D
Is it weird that I'm not an anarchist but love Chumbawamba?
+Kevin15047 Nope. Join the crowd.
Loving Chumbawamba isn't weird at all. Not being an anarchist is weird.
Not weird at all, they play music,
a communication medium which needs no language,
let alone a common political or deistic worldview.
Nice and catchy.
@tingletangle1970 i cant belive i never made the connection, these and alabama 3 are my two top fav.
there is a version of this trk with more alabama3 in it! from the US tour
"FOOKIN FABULOUS". Great band and as the other people say totally underrated.

Midnight Mass. If you vibe with this song, watch Midnight Mass.
I believe in God but I love the part that says "Everything will be alright"

cool!
Everything will be alright
@gREENbUILT21 Agreed
got the record but don´t know how to get it out on youtube :(
Lovely song, but the beginning makes me think I'm about to hear "Pepper" by the Butthole Surfers.
Who is still listening in 2025?
Where can I download this song?
One hit wonders.
25 hit wonders and Tubthumping is #15 at best-Look No Stringgs, Bells Ciao, this song. One by One, Timebomb are btilliant songs-please reunite!
are you going to a dance?
Song makes me think of how I feel not listening to the Radio is a lot like how I felt when I walked out on the Jehovah's witnesses. jfc. it's more fun in the dog house
We don't go there any more, because they are crazy, and yell at your dog. Then I have to get serious and point a finger.
