This is my very first TH-cam video where I describe my journey to Islam. This is part 1 of a 3-part series. 99% of this video was filmed in Madrid Spain, while I was traveling south toward Granada where I would be declaring my Shahada on December 1, 2023.
In this first video I discuss the hypocrisy I witnessed growing up in my childhood and my desire to understand God more comprehensively.
I disclose how I transitioned from a Christian to an atheist and then how I discovered Islam while working as a bartender.
Going to UC Berkeley was an incredible opportunity for a girl like me from Canada and I took every advantage I could to finally study religion in an academic, rational and systematic way. Initially I wanted to study Hinduism because I was an avid yoga practitioner however, as I mention in this video, the Hindu 101 class was at 9am, so with my work schedule, attending class and doing well, wasn’t feasible. I then signed up for the 1pm Islam 101 class which was taught by Dr. Hatem Bazian. If you don’t follow him on social media, please do because he is an excellent teacher and an activist - @HatemBazian
I also point out how Islamophobia is inherent in academic, and in supposedly liberal cities like Berkeley, California. I briefly explain that I went to Granada in Spain for my semester abroad.
As you’ll notice part way through the video the cuts back to me talking in Portugal where I talk about Dr. Bazian and how I selected Islam in Berkeley’s course schedule. This section of the video was filmed after my trip to Spain and I had to piece it into the Madrid video because the audio from the park in Madrid was unusable, unfortunately.

For all new Islam converts . PLEASE only follow the Quran and the true life of the prophet... DO NOT be influenced by individual Muslims as (very many of them) are a bad reflection of the beautiful Islam .. Do not be influenced by some Muslim countries cultural and tribal traditions as most of them are simply cultural and traditional and has nothing to do with true Islamic practices…This is a message from the heart as it saddens me to see many new converts leave Islam after a short while because they heard or witnessed bad Muslims.

I’ve been working out my ideas on this exact topic & Insha’Allah I’ll be filming about this on Friday!
It can be difficult to navigate what is culture and what is Islam, perhaps even more so for those born into the religion.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt however a few of the comments on here are unmerciful.
I’m sure they don’t realize that they’re “poisoning the well” in many ways when those interested in converting see these comments because
I have had quite a few people DM me on IG who talk to me about converting but are shocked at the discourtesy.

Yes unfortunately, Islam gets a bad wrap due to the behaviors of "SO CALLED MUSLIMS" out there. They tend to mix their own traditional and tribal ancient customs with the practice of Islam which unfortunately taints the beautiful relegion of Islam, like for example; The savage acts of female circumcision in many African countries who tend to identify themselves as muslims, or the all in black covered dress garmets that women tend to wear in some parts of the middle east or the untamed beards of some men or the mistreatment of helpless animals , and on and on . I can go forever on those issues that gives a bad wrap to this beautiful relegion. Islam, the Quran and the prophet are free from such ill traditions and customs. you guys reverts are going thru almost the same as the first Muslims went thru from rejections to persecutions and all of that just made them stronger and they are the ones who brought Islam to us just imagine if they were dis encouraged and gave up we will not have this beautiful religion between us now keep up the good work may Allah guide all to the straight path

Thanks for sharing. I have a similar story. My family are very strong Christians and I was too until I met a very special person (now my husband Alhamdullilah) who taught me about Islam and I started questioning my Christian faith. My journey over the last few years has been very hard for my family, they say I have turned my back on God. I haven't taken my shahada yet, if I'm being honest it's because I care too much what people think of me. Horrible reason, I know. So it was really powerful to hear you say you got over that. Inshallah God will help me get over my fear too.
Jazak’Allah khair for sharing your story with me Rebecca💗 I know how hard it can be to have a family who doesn’t accept your love of Islam. My father is a self-described Islamophobe, so it’s been really tough managing this part of our relationship.
Ultimately I couldn’t deny my feelings because of someone else’s fear and inability to accept my beliefs. I chose to do what was right for me and for my afterlife and Alhamdulillah that in Islam we get rewarded for any hardship we endure.

There’s a verse which came to my mind after I read your comment: “But if they press you to associate others with Me in My Divinity, (to associate) those regarding whom you have no knowledge (that they are My associates), do not obey them. And yet treat them well in this world, and follow the way of him who turns to Me in devotion. Eventually it is to Me that all of you shall return, and I shall then tell you all that you did.” (31:15).

7:32 The first word 'Iqra'e' according to the authentic Arabic tongue doesn't mean read. It means memorize.
Regardless of the place where the prophet was back then, or what was revealed in the front of him, his
question (what would I memorize?) means he was seeing nothing readable supposing 'read' is the right meaning.. another proof is the verse 'We will make you memorize so don't forget' (S.87/V.6). And not:
'We will make you recite..' Memorizing is (opposite-ly) related to forgetting more than reading or reciting.
That's an old linguistic fallacy, the majority learned it wrong.. The right word for read is Yatloo.
You find it in many verses along the Qur'an..
A scholar can't be named like that unless he'd have the base of all Islamic sciences which is the science of
the language origins (FIQUH'EL' OSOUL) and (FIQUH'ELBALAGHA).. Otherwise, he'd be called a professor instead. I wish you'll read this, and feel free to ask about so many corruptions you might cross along the way.

Yes (of course) please! it sounded very interesting; two souls destined to meet away from home.
There's many points I'd like to comment about, but here are some important ones:
From the infinite grace of Islam and what the prophet taught us about any illness, there's
three main natural ways must be considered to cure Cancer; one is the Islamic Cupping (Hijama), not
the dry Chinese Cupping, and not anyone can operate.. I can explain more about this large topic if you'd like to..
Second cure is the 'water fasting' for weeks repeatedly (depends on how early or late were the diagnosis), and doing that with Zamzam water is just perfect.. And to be in Mecca is super perfect.. Also is a large topic... The 'big Farma' hates all of that natural curing obviously..
third, the Dromedary camel milk and urine.. And a major bonus, is listening to the Qur'an with the intention to heal, with the 'dou'ae' as well.. And from that dou'ae, there is one you remarkably repeat, which is 'alhamdo lillah'. But it's important to know that 'alhamdo lillah' does not mean thanks or praise to Allah as the majority of Muslims thinks. The prophet said: "the best of the prayers (Dikr) is la ilaha illa' llah, and the best of the dou'ae alhamdo lillah". That means that after monotheism there is the contentment and acceptance of any fate Allah had wrote for every single thing in our lives and every life around us, (everything).. The sentence is the heart of the Islamic belief..
There's not a place you named in this video I haven't visited or lived in (even Dubai), except NY and Nazaré..

Thank you so much for sharing your story. @@AlieForza You are welcome sister. I am very happy for you. Your book is clean once you took your shahadah. It’s your job to keep it clean. If you have taken loans or borrowed money or anything from anybody, you need to return that to the person you took it from.
Let me tell you somethings that are easy to do but heavy on the scale:
1. Say “Subhan Allah wa be Hamdehe” 100 times, your sins will be erased even if they were like butter of the sea. The more you say it the better it is as no one would come like you on that day on the day of judgement.
2. Say “Alhamdullilah” from your heart sincerely, it will please Allah and fill between the earth and heaven and Allah will please your heart and make things easy for you. No heart feelings on anything in this dunia. No specific number, the more the better.
3. Say “Subhan Allah wa behamdehe Subhan Allah Alazeem”. Light on tongue, heavy on the scale and Allah loves these words.
May allah bless and keep you as well as all of us on the right path.

I love you so much when you talk about Islam. Talking while walking with a beautiful view makes what is being said more acceptable. Hi Alie, its the first time I come by your channel here! I followed you on X when Gaza crisis started, but didn’t actually check your bio details except today when I read your post about verse 28:56 in the Qur’an. I listened to your Medrid Video today and it was fascinating! What attracted me the most when you had to change schedual because you couldn’t get up eary to attend Hinduism class at 9:00 am so you ended up taking Islam 101. I am happy to help you with any question in your mind about Islam and the Holy Qur’an. And regarding the translation, I strongly recommend A. Yusuf Ali, The Holy Qur’an Text, Translation, and Commentary. This is the best translation out there! It was written in a Shakespearean fashion and try gettiing the 1946 edition because this was his original text.

Yes, isn’t it so strange that because I was bartending until 2am, there was just no way I could get back into Berkeley for a 9am class!? And then the seeing the Islam 101 class at 1pm and thinking okay perfect, let’s check this class out. SubhanAllah!! It still sort of boggles my brain🤯

Remember that Allah only guides whom He Wills. The way I was studying the real Islam online and not from my parents' or family cultural ignorance was astounding. But the other Muslims friends of mine didn't want to start practicing. So my message to you is to remember that it is only Allah that guides and only Allah that opens other people's hearts. When I heard the sound of birds, I remembered this noble verse in the Qur’an, so I wanted to share it with you, brothers and sisters:
﴿تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّماواتُ السَّبعُ وَالأَرضُ وَمَن فيهِنَّ وَإِن مِن شَيءٍ إِلّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمدِهِ وَلكِن لا تَفقَهونَ تَسبيحَهُم إِنَّهُ كانَ حَليمًا غَفورًا﴾ [الإسراء: ٤٤]
(44) The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allāh] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing[748] and Forgiving.
