You have the Hot wire facing the wrong direction. While it works, you should make it go with the tightening of the screw. This way it won't come loose.

The white wire is not a neutral wire, there are no neutral wires on a regular switch. This is a switch loop where the white wire is used as a hot (switch leg return to the light) wire. In older homes sometimes the metal box is grounded with wires attached to the outside back of the box. This can be verified with a multimeter and if it's grounded you'll get approximately 120v between the box and the hot wire.

Thanks for the input. I followed the white wire back to the breaker and it is not affixed to where the breaker is located. It is on the side with all the other white wires. The black wire is affixed where the breaker is located. I’ll do more research. Thanks for your comment!

@@gabrielacuna5981 That white wire is probably the neutral wire part of the home run to the light. The white wire on the switch connects to the black wire of the light. The white wire should be marked with black tape at each end to eliminate confusion, but it's not always done. Neutral wires are not used on single pole, 3-way, or 4-way switches, they are used on modern smart switch/dimmer devices.
