- Today we visit a lost town in Jerpoint park, come with me as we walk through the 12th century ruins of St Nicholas Church and graveyard. We visit the tomb of St Nicholas the man who is responsible for the legend of Santa Claus.

What a beautiful run of the church and that would be fantastic if that grave has some part of St. Nicholas' remains. Setting is absolutely breathtaking.

Simply beautiful grounds that include such an historic town and church. I remember seeing places similar to this during my visit in 1981. But this place is a dream. What an outstanding example of how well kept the land and its history has been preserved. Very well done video. 🎄⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎄

The tomb of Mary that died in Pittsburgh USA. That city is 2 hour drive south of where I live. Beautiful old cemetery and so interesting. I hope you and your family have an amazing Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing these old places and history with us.

The Legend of St. Nicholas: The Real Santa Claus
The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nicholas was born sometime around A.D. 280 in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. Much admired for his piety and kindness, St. Nicholas became the subject of many legends. It is said that he gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping the poor and sick. One of the best-known St. Nicholas stories is the time he saved three poor sisters from being sold into slavery or prostitution by their father by providing them with a dowry so that they could be married.

What a fabulous old churchyard.The Ruins are actually in pretty good condition for their age..I bet some of those old markers go back a long time too.The grave of St.Nicholas looks amazing ,it was really well carved and deep too .That’s why it’s survived so long.Thank you for the Adventure,and all you do..Merry Christmas to you both and your family and Happy New Year..Love n Light 🥰

amazing video Sue , I always thought St Nicholas was a myth so I've learnt so much , my family came from Germany and as a child we had the custom of St Nicholas coming to town on December the 6th and filled our shoes with candy 🍬 so everything makes sense now , Merry Christmas to you and GV wishing you both a wonderful 2023 x
Yes The 6th is st. Nicholas day..he really was a giver, he saved many and helped many too, gifting to people through their windows and down their chimneys he was amazing and so Santa was born

graveyard do look good for their age.
There is a nice mixture of very, very old grave markers, and somewhat newer headstones. The tomb of St. Nickolas was really fascinating, were you able to make out the lettering around the edge of the tomb? The headstone of the WWI veteran is probably the
newest one there, and most likely
the last. The family who owns that
land deserves a lot of thanks and
appreciation for cleaning up the church and graveyard, and doing
their best to maintain the grounds.
