Advanced Adventure is an absolute gem! As a DB fan in middle school when I was just learning about emulation I remember a classmate burning a CD-rom for me with the Visual Boy program as well as 20+ games, with one of them being the Japanese version of this game as the English version had yet to be released. I then loved the game so much that when it DID release physically in English I went right down to GameStop and picked it up!
I should play it. I have it. I played fusion when it came out. I enjoyed it but never played it again. More into castlevania cause the atmosphere is more appealing for me.
@@metalbrainmextrememetalent6810 You should definitely play it - I love those Castlevania games too, but Zero Mission has a great atmosphere and everything about the game is so polished and the music is epic too.
I’ve said this before, but I just adore the GBA. I have so many great memories just sitting on my couch back in the day playing Metroid, Castlevania, and Zelda games. I actually had the game boy advance adapter you would plug into the bottom of the GameCube. I remember having my mind blown playing Circle of the Moon on my TV. Great times.
Great video, the gba art style is one of the best art style for any video game era. Games that were ported like the snes ports or home console games of that era that were ported to the gba are the games that had to be compromised visually due to the different resolution and obvious the dark screen that the gba had so those games weren’t the best looking games out there. But the original gba titles, games that were made specifically for the gba hardware are the games that really shined
Recently I’ve been playing some impressive GB games like Cave Noire, Great Greed , The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls & Roland’s curse . All of them unique & very fun.
The narrator pointed out that the visuals are sharper than Super Metroid, and it's because Super Metroid was pixel art, Zero Mission is hand drawn art that was scanned and downsampled to work on the 240p-ish display the GBA had It took me a long time to realize this, but it was when I was looking at the backgrounds I realized that was too smooth to be tiles. It begs the question if the original high resolution originals are on a computer somewhere for Zero Mission and Fusion and could we get a Zero Mission/Fusion HD remaster
I used to follow the Pocketeers dev blog way back then. Their GBA engine was amazing; they demonstrated games like Quake and GTA on it. Shame all those possibilities weren't realized.
Crazy Taxi for the GBA was an incredible achievement. I traded a few of my og GB games to have it. I loved it. The frame rate didn't matter that much to me at the time. When the PSP got Crazy Taxi, that was a massive upgrade.
My spot a game I own trend for your videos was funny enough won straight away with Metroid Zero Mission starting things off. My mind tends to go towards Metroid Fusion when I think of Metroid games so it was nice to be reminded how good and good looking Metroid Zero Mission was. 3:27 - Your gameplay here shows you hopping out of rolls, short hopping and slamming switches before you even land. I think how short the game is to you might be because you're too good at it. Your'e blitzing through the level. 3:54 - I always wanted to play Sonic Battle but never managed to stumble upon a cartridge. The choice of a handheld for this Power Stone-like (a comparison I love hearing) fighter is an interesting one but they certainly did a quality job with the character sprites both in-battle and during talking scenes. 7:41 - The lighting of Goku's Kamehameha alone is amazing to see. Always happy to see my favourite GBA game, Dragon Ball Advance Adventure, get some spotlight. 12:39 - Ice Nine here is the first (edit: and only) game in this video I've never heard of. Doesn't seem my thing but it does look impressive.
The GBA really was in a league of its own by providing very impressive games, especially visually. Another list of excellent picks! Ice Nine is one I’ve been wanting to try still!
The GBA COULD manage almost PS1 quality graphics despite no dedicated hardware for 3,D polygons. Someone actually got the original PS1 Tomb Raider running on the GBA at about 20fps and I bet it could have handled the Resident Evil games since those had fixed camera angles and tank controls.
I had Grunty's Revenge when I was a kid but I never finished it. Would love another Banjo-Kazooie game in the future. Sonic Battle is one of my favorite Sonic games actually. I liked the story and the minigames were fun too. Game can be hard sometimes though. I liked Emerl and being able to customize him as well. Dragon Ball Advance Adventure is fun too! I like being able to play the whole DB story in game form and I think making it a sidescroller was the perfect call. I still need to finish it though.
0:45 Manual does, remember, it was a time where games came with instructions booklet that were essential to the experience because they didn't had developement time or memory space to include in-game tutorials.
So nice to hear someone praise Crazy Taxi on GBA. "The one on dreamcast is so much superior". Well of course, but you should not compare the two. It is what it is. And even though the Simpsons Road Rage is a better game on the GBA, they both should have place in a collection!
If you do one of these again and if games that require fan translations are not off limits, then definitely check out Super Robot Wars J. I was stunned by how fluid the animations were. And since there are a lot of units, allies and enemies alike, there are lots of these animations. One of the best looking GBA games for me.
I remember playing advanced adventure when i was really a teenager and i enjoyed it a lot at that time being. I played the game again after like more than a decade and while its still a nice experience its not as fun as before. I finished the game and i feel like finishing the game again because i already like unlocked krillin as the main character but then i decided not to cause its too repetitive for me and i dont enjoy playing that much anymore. I mean i would rather play another game. If im like 10 years younger, i would have finished the game again for sure.
Maybe you covered it in another video or something, but for me the most impressive looking gba game is V-Rally 3 which even has an inside-the-car dash cam.
