    Great video. Easy to understand. I especially appreciate the part about cutting off the end that screws into a light socket. I have only seen those available and never thought about just cutting that end off. Thank you.

      @@funbro1 By cutting off the Edison adapter that screws into the old socket, then wiring it directly to the black + white wires coming from the orange clip, am I risking any electrical dangers, i.e., burning the house down? My problem is with the old socket and the wires and the Edison adapter, I can't cram all that back up into the 4-in can and get the new LED light fixture to fit flush against the ceiling.

    Good vid on how to though to install an actual resessed fixture I know theres just a bit more involved I know the can is very long & gets to be tricky being if you have plaster wall ceiling generally the canister is meant for up to 5/8" thickness drywall would work though plaster ceilings are over 1" in thixkness so could be a problem..

    Thanks for this video sir it really helped me understand how to fully replace any old light fixture in my new home so good job! but quick question for a beginner like myself what's the best way (besides shocking myself) to test the wires coming from the ceiling to tell if they have any juice going to them because the ones in my laundry room seem to not give the light fixture any power when I turn them on so any well recommended suggestions?

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest getting a no touch voltage tester. They are relatively cheap (under $10) and allow you to check quickly if a circuit is live without cutting into the wires. Hope this helps, thanks for watching

    I am changing an old fixture just like yours in the video. My new LED fixture has a green wire with a terminal end on one end and is stripped on the other. It's not clear to me either in the instructions or your video where this green wire goes. Any advice would be appreciated.

    • @AquilaRamsey
      @AquilaRamsey 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm sure you already found the answer but for anyone else with the same question...green is your ground. You put the ground with the wire thats not wrapped in plastic (plain copper color wire) either with a wire nut or wrap the around the green screw (which you will tighten to make sure they are secure and there is a good connection).

    That's probably a "flush mount" I wouldn't call it a recessed can light either

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Ron Wade If you want to get into semantics, which it appears you do we can look at what the manufacturer calls them. According to the manufacturer it is called a "Recessed Retrofit Light. But thanks for your input, and thanks for watching.

    • @NA-nf2vt
      @NA-nf2vt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It isn't "probably" a flush mount, it is a flush mount. They're two entirely different things and the differences are quite apparent. This isn't semantics. The manufacturer calls it "Recessed Retrofit" because you can "retrofit" the flush mount into a previously "recessed" can. Someone who wants to replace a recessed light can buy this, and they'll change it to a "flush mount". The manufacturer says it right in their product description: "Fits most 5 and 6 inch recessed cans". So, your title is misleading and inaccurate, as this is not a recessed light. It's a flush mount. Big difference. I have flush mounts through out my entire house and I'm looking to change them all to recessed. Recessed lights are considered to be a bit more attractive. Anyway, if something isn't recessing into the ceiling why would anyone think to call it "recessed"? Duh?

    • @funbro1

      You can go much brighter with a LED than an incandescent bulb because they use much less power. The brightness is measured by leumans so the higher the leumans the brighter the bulb. Hope this helps, Thanks for watching.

      @funbro1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually it is a recessed light according to the manufacturer, sorry to burst your bubble. And by the way what does “watched the while thing” mean? I guess that is a FAIL. Thanks for the view.

    • @danpnel
      @danpnel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      funbro1 it is not recessed. A recessed light is entirely “recessed” into the ceiling. Hence the name “recessed”. The only part that is exposed is the trim. The light bulb, LED or incandescent is inside the “recessed” light housing that is inside the ceiling. See the image on this page. No need to get so offended, just change your title to not mislead people watching the video. This is a flush mount light you installed, regardless of the manufacturers false information . You got duped.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is recessed, it must be a recessed light. If the manufacturer calls it a recessed light it must be a recessed light. No need for YOU to get so offended, just accept what the manufacturer calls the fixture and don't try to dupe people. Any problems you may have with the nomenclature of this fixture please take it up with the manufacturer.

    Do you have instructions on the reverse?
    I have an existing cannister/recessed lighting fixture with plug-in compact fluorescent (shown below). I'd like to switch to an LED screw in bulb.
    There is no attic access.
    I just want to know how to remove the existing cannister and replaced with a new cannister (that'll work with screw-in bulbs)...
    Link to my existing light bulb, which is not screw-type bulb:

      Your best bet would be to look for a remodel fixture. That is one that is meant to go into a finished ceiling so no attic access would be necessary. I would also look for one that is the same diameter as the one (hole) that you currently have. This will make installation easier. This one or something similar may work for you..
