I bought it... What a Motorcycle Under $1000 is Like

  • I bought the cheapest adult-sized mini bike off of Amazon for $800. You know when you were a kid and you went full force on a mini bike with none of the fear and anxiety that comes with being an adult? I thought, if I could get the cheapest, smallest bike, maybe I could get that fearless riding time that many of you had by being able to start riding when you were kids... and be that much better of a rider. Maybe.
The Coleman CT200U trail mini bike came in a box and was made in China. I have named him Larry. Larry is my rebound for being rejected by Gary, the Dirt-E Bike from @Bikes and Beards. We'll see how our relationship progresses.

After Larry and I went for a ride, I went to Sturgis and saw at least 3 other Larry's. The video on Sturgis will be next. What kind of mods do you want to see on Larry?

If you want to go for that cool 9-year-old delinquent look, maybe a sissy bar with a pirate flag. The "I bought this for my daughter-look" might include pink streamers from the handlebars and seat (or sissy bar!).

I'd remove that governor, add a rearview mirror on the handlebar, and bicycle lights front and back. And wooohoooo!!! 10:01 haha!

I suggest a slide carb, which will override the speed limiter, and make the motor accelerate much smoother than the stock system. It is a little more advanced, but the outcome is worth the effort. Perhaps enlist the help of a mechanic familiar with these little machines in case you have question, since there is not really any install instructions that I am aware of.

Lady knows her ATGATT. All should! Mythbusters proved that a 25 mph impact can be fatal. That minibike hits that right out of the box. Never mind road rash from even hitting pavement at walking speeds.

I love this channel as Doodle gets self-taught adulting lessons in things young kids back in the day did literally all day long until the dinner bell rang. Most 10 year olds could wrench a lawnmower or a minibike back then. It's a thrill to watch you learn why thry invented toy haulers. Once you've got the bug, any toy is cool! I highly recommend cheap Amazon pit bikes! After watching you negotiating log piles on an Africa Twin, a dirt bike should be easy!

There are dozens of yt vids on how to unbox and setup, hundreds on how to fix and tune. Dozens of user Forums and local clubs too. These are literally identical to the ones we had in the 60s but with more powerful motors. You'll have a blast, but you will have to learn what "reliable" meant in a 1960s way: it meant it worked as long as you kept repairing it. Vehicle maintenance and repair was a weekly chore back in the day. On any Saturday, there was a sea of cars with hoods up in the neighborhoods. These bikes are the same. Wheel bearings fail about every 20 hours of riding (which is actually a lot of riding time), cost 10 bucks and 10 minutes to replace. Chains need maintenance and sometimes break. Cables stretch and break, etc. No biggie, but folks below 40 are used to bikes and cars that rarely need repair. This is just 60s tech that needs attention. It's actually as much fun to work on them as it is to ride them, and your kids learn life-long skills and confidence in using tools to have fun.

Great idea. I’m in the UK and we have to start on a 125cc bike. I kept my Benelli TNT 125 after passing my unrestricted licence test and also have a 660cc bike. But I love going out on the 125 when I want a more care-free ride and just fancy a tootle about. It brings back memories of riding my bicycle when I was a kid. No concerns about weight, or dropping it or not being able to put two feet down. I love it.

Damn. My very first street-legal motorcycle after getting my "M" (for motorcycle) endorsement on my license was a 93 in³ shovelhead, which is 1524 cc. In a lot of ways we are extremely safety minded in the U.S., but apparently not when it comes to driving.

I actually lost it for that reason or I got it taken away for the summer and someone stole it out of our mower shed. I miss that thing and even at 50 I still want another for fun. Thank you for sharing. New to your channel from South Florida. I love that you rode to Key West. I take my family there once a year and it’s a 5 1/2 hour trip in my truck. I think it's actually a law in many states. Pro tip: practice saying "I'm good!" while clutching your ribs and spitting mud. That's when you know you've got the jump dialed in just right.
If my parents knew half the knucklehead stunts we pulled on minibikes in the 60s! I'm teaching them to my grandkids now while my daughter stands by yelling at me. My daughters were daredevils growing up, so I don't know why they complain....

Hey Doodle, another journey for you, I loved it. You have learnt beyond belief what it takes to build a motorcycle & importantly have fun. Cheers. I want to see you having more fun. Cheers ✌️🏍 💜

That was hands down, the best 11:38 of my life 🤣 I nearly choked on my peanut butter and celery while laughing at the chicken with his pants on. A mini-bike and you put it together yourself!!!! I love your sense of humor and the joy you bring to others through your epic video creations ♥️ Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!

Love ur vids...So enjoy ur enthusiasm....my first mini bike was PURPLE...urs is way cooler and mine was a late 60's model...and the throttle would stick wide open... I needed a parachute when I bailed off it. Pure terror but it builds character..lol....Keep doing what ur doing...us peeps need entertained 😁

These are great bikes to build and have fun with! We throw 212cc or 224cc predator engines on them, building them an doing 85+ mph on them. You will love the ct200u 😎🤘🏼
