“Under the Vedavyaas Restructuring Scheme” a national webinar was organized on the topic - *“Sanskrit Shaastriya Critique of Economy, Economics & Economist In 21st Century” “२१वीं शताब्दी में अर्थव्यवस्था, अर्थशास्त्र एवम् अर्थशास्त्री की संस्कृत-शास्त्रीय मीमांसा” in which 35 participants participated and Resource Person - Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Kaul, Department of Finance & Business Economics, Delhi University, Delhi. delivered a scholarly brilliant & convincing lecture, which was appreciated by all. In the open house discussion participants shared their vies and ideas. Webinar concluded with the vote of thanx.
Why & What - अर्थस्य पुरुषो दासः अर्थो दासः न कस्यचित् (महाभारत)
Part 1) - From Sanskrit-Shaastriya perspective, let us ask ourselves direct but sensible questions - 1. What kind of future do economists want? 2. What do Economists want to sustain, for whom and for how long? 3. What does economic thinking of Economists & common people have to do with their current reality & their ability to achieve? As an ardent follower of Sanskrit Shaastriya economic thinking i.e. Yagya based economic culture (right to earn & duty bound to distribute plus public participation) along with three economic models - Swarga based (where every Bhoga is available in abundance), Vishnu-Loka model (where state resources are all out for its Prajaa) & third is Shiva-Loka model (where there is neither hunger nor fear- all contradictions primary, moving and dangerous are settled and at ease) so let us be clear that Sanskrit Shaastriya economics and economy was never based on scarcity of things like the western theories of economics, it was always an economy of abundance. For reference one can check out the entire Sanskrit literature from Vedic Suktas to Mahaakavyaas. So, lets again come back to main issue of economists’ responsibility and accountability for wellbeing of 7.5 billion people & one living earth. As an economist how do you respond to the following observation from Sanskrit-Shaastriya perspective - “There is no denying the fact that our present-day generation is the most comfortable facilities wise & technology-wise but can an economist claim this generation to be the happiest ever generation in human history? And what is form & essence of wellbeing? Does economist help people or make capable enough to choose consciously & sensibly? In spite of all the claims of economic development can humanity claim to be blissful?
Part 2) - GDP based economic model designed and developed for 7.5 billion people of one earth has been able to generate facilities & conveniences for people in unequal & unjust manner because of which wellbeing is not happening so it's high time to rethink about our traditional wisdom regarding economics of wellbeing. The patch works like sustainable economics, green economics, and environmental eco are no sureties or Securities for safe, healthy human future on this one planet called earth. It is because these reasons we need to look for an alternative economic thinking in terms of sensible economics, economy & economists. The results of intellect-based economics are like - अन्धेनेव नीयमानः यथान्धः। So its high time that we make academic karma-based investigations into the whole issue without prejudices.
Part-3) - There is an old story in Skt literature which fits perfectly defines the present day situation and relationship of economists and economy - “एक बार एक आदमी ने भूत सिद्ध कर लिया जो उसके सभी कार्य तुरन्त पूरे इस शर्त पर करता था कि वह एक भी क्षण खाली नही बैठेगा और यदि वह खाली हुआ तो वह आदमी को खा जाएगा। आदमी को यह बहुत उत्तेजक इच्छा-पूर्ति का साधन बहुत पसन्द आया । भूत ने उसकी रोटी पानी मकान की सारी समस्याओं सहित सभी सुविधाएँ पलक झपकते प्रदान कर दी लेकिन अब आदमी उसे और क्या काम दे इस वजह से भूत् आदमी को खाने को तैयार हो गया।“ This is the situation with economists and the economy in the 21st century. Economists (communists/ capitalists, economists with the government & economists who are against economic policies of government etc) thought that they can handle and mold economy with their economic thinking skills and actually they did constructed economic principles based on demand & supply kind of rationality but soon it went out of their hands like Maayaa of Vedaant and all economists are trying to handle economy from collapsing and trying to make it sensible, responsible and answerable to humanity and one living earth. So, time and again with their intellectual arrogance they created terms like sustainable economy, free market economy, welfare economics and so on as a patch work. Economists with all their might wrestling with the economy and wellbeing priorities of humanity.
