Oh man this is exatcly a tutorial I've been searching. I have tried to find the best solution for a diversive V-mount light. Love how you demonstrated how to use this on location while taking video by yourself. Creative way to use tools and this surely get aplodes from me. Only thing which makes me wonder is this really enough powerful.
Hey Fellow Filmmaker! Just wanna say glad to see you "keep keeping on!" I remember one of the last times you were less than half the viewers (12k and a little down) ... NOW YOU'RE MORE THAN DOUBLE! See what a few months does... of course not without top of the line reviews you do and hard work of course. Anyways, just here to root for you and watch the excellent reviews. Thank you very much for the kind comment! You're right, the channel has come quite a ways since then :D I'm sure I'll be there soon enough, thanks for the kind support!
Way cool! BTW, found your channel recently when I realized we're both using the iFootage Small Monopod as a camera set-up. Really love your style and tips too. Thank for sharing!
So glad you found the channel recently, funny how that happened based off that item! :D So glad you enjoy the style, welcome if I didn't welcome you yet too
@@FellowFilmmaker I'm a solo creator, more video than anything, so the whole "dong it solo" thing really speaks to me. Oh yeah, my studio/office is 11x13 so there's that too. Continued success!
Solo is rough sometimes, but rewarding when you can nail the shot If you ever get a chance to try the light attached to camera idea, you'll have to tell me how you like it. I really enjoyed it :D Yeah, that's the size of my office as well!
That’s a really cool light. Quite versatile. I think the forest scenes are awesome. The marshmallow scene was super effective. Aputure does have the best effects. Another great video. :)
How timely for me. I purchased the 60d first in order to get maximum brightness from the form factor. The 60x is not quite as bright, and I opted to get the 60d and put a gel over it for the needs for warmer light. Now I am going to be getting a 60x as often times we don't use lights at their full brightness anyway, and it would be handy to have 2 of these lights, and even more handy if at least one had variable color temperature so that I don't have to bother with gels. I also want to get a smaller softbox (this one appears to fit the bill) that won't stress the bowens mount, as well as something that will clamp my large softbox to a light stand and just let the light hang off the back of the box (ala DSLR Video Shooter). The fire feature actually looks good! I planned to just use the mounting bracket as a handle and NP-F batteries for hand-held purposes. The available handle looks nice, but as frugal (cheap?) as I am I will just make do without it. The red light into the lens for the glow is a fantastic hack too! Thanks for that. AWESOME video as usual. Thank you for taking the time.
So glad you enjoyed the video, and that you'll grab a 60x. I've surprisingly used it more than I initially thought I would. It's perfect for situations like in the woods. AND I only had it at about 40% for those woods shots, which was great! :D Fire feature is best with Aputure for sure, or so I've found. Glad you got a bunch of inspiration from this video as well. Always good to see you in the comments! :D
Oh, it's worth noting that I've used a 90cm softbox on the amaran lights and it's never made an issue of the bowens mount for me. I've left it on for weeks at a time (as my key light TH-cam studio light) and it's been good So I imagine you could do a bigger diffusor if you wanted than just the 45
@@FellowFilmmaker - That's great to hear. Just seeing one that large on the front of that small light seems unsettling, but then again, the bowens mount is just 3 ears, and what's beyond that really doesn't matter. Thanks for the info again!!
@@FellowFilmmaker - I've seen a number of videos where the person says "I lit this scene with an Aputure LS120D MkII at 18%..." and I would think "That's an expensive way to light that..." That's why I am looking to have maybe a total of 3 of the Amaran 60 series lights. It seems most often even they are on 25% - 40%. My first Amaran light was the 100d. I used it at or near maximum brightness for a few projects, and then found it was usually set pretty low in output for a number of other projects, so that told me I could use lights without as much output, or as much cost. Sounded like a win-win for me. I love these lights.
Oh! Thats a big "villhöver" on that setup! Would be great for lots of scenarios "Villhöver" being the Swedish words for want and need put together. Is there an English equivalent?
This handle is sweet. I've been using the Ulanzi mini fluid head with a Falcam f38 quick release for my Amaran 60x. It works really great. But this would be really cool for quick hand held stuff.
@@FellowFilmmaker I also really really really hate those little light stand mounts. They're just so fidgety and clunky. Anytime I can yeet those in the junk drawer I'm gonna do it.
@@FellowFilmmaker Okay wait, I just saw that the handle has those two position screws. So you'd have to jerry-rig something. It shouldn't be too hard to find a tiny cheese plate rail that'll go over that and have an extra thread to mount the quick-release base. New video idea for you!
Thank you for the great video, it's very helpful! May I ask which light stand you're using with the softbox in this video? Or is it a monopode? I didn't find its link in the description. Thank you!
Loved this follow up video. The 45 SB looks like a perfect fit for this lil light in my studio. How are you finding the fan noise for talking head shoots?
Yes, it's great for tiny spaces And the fan noise is decent, not silent but quiet enough to use :D I used it for the talking head in this video with just a lav mic, so if you like that then I imagine you'd like it :D
I recently used my 60d on several shoots and I actually checked the light to see if the fan was running. Unless your mic is going to be within about 2 feet of the mic (unless the mic is omni-directional) I believe you will be very happy with it.
*This is something I'm lookin to get as I do talking head videos. I just got the 60d a few days ago and the reflector is too much but this soft box would make the lite less harsh on my face. Nice video and also showing how it looks in a more practical sense for small rooms or spaces. Now I have a question as I do all my videos sitting at my desk I don't have much space what would you recommend for a desk mount for this light as I have it mounted on my Elgato Master Mount and it seems pretty stable to any recommendations on small c stands*
I don't really prefer c-stands if you're in a tight space. You could always use varipoles as those are great for saving space. For mounting you'd use grip gear. In fact I'm doing a series right now called It's Rigged that covers all these unique space saving setups and rigs :D Might be worth the watch if you haven't checked them out already.
Love this video! Can you let me know how have you connected the light wirelessly at 3:43? I don’t see any batteries attached to the light pole attached to the camera.
I've not used other v-mount brands, so I really couldnt say from experience I believe New Layer has a video on his channel about this, along with Tommy Callaway. Hope that helps!
I like both to be honest. I like the MLbi for being silent and a bit more portable on the go with the case. However, I like the 60x for it's studio mode for when I'm in the office. So, benefits to both, but not wrong purchase really. The accessories didn't make the amarans more valuable in my opinion.
Wonderful ideas! The most thing I hate about the 60x is the insane green tint at 5600K (1.0) which is real bad as a key light. It's a great light overall but currently there are better options available.
I’m about to purchase the equipment you used for your run and gun set up. Just wanted to know how you attached the pole to your camera to stabilize it? A plate?
I clamped it for the camera shown in this video using the iFootage spider crab clamp. For the pole it's also from iFootage as well, the telescopic pole. However I did this trick with my cinema camera as well, worked great. Just use a camera cage and mount the iFootage arm to the 1/4 20 mount on the cage.
I watched two videos hoping for info on how the long shaft was attached to the camera or to the Manfrotto tripod head which I have. No luck. I am disappointed. Don’t know if I would have to buy something else or not.
