@@mehdimcgrady Comedy has math too. Timing. Rule of threes. There's a lot. But with both comedy and rap, it's possible to subconsciously internalize the math. You don't necessarily need to think about it if you can *feel* it, but that takes a keen ear and good instinctive pattern recognition. It's like how there's a lot of math that goes into hitting a baseball just right, but baseball players aren't necessarily conscious of that math; it just happens in the background.
@@virodhi5898 I'll try... So the rhythmic pattern (1, 2, 3, ..., 7, 6) plus the 2 beat pauses adds up to 48. He is using the patteen every 4 bars. So you get 48 / 4 = 12. Each bar needs to be 12 so he is doing them in triplets (4 triplets for each bar). E.g. First bar is: 1 syllable rap // 2 notes pause // 2 syllables rap // 2 notes pause // 3 syllables rap // 2 notes pause 2nd bar starts off with 4 syllable rap and etc..
The 6+1 is felt as a syncopated 7. Very interesting construction. I like 4+2 and 2(2+3) + 4+2. These sequences obscure the 16 while staying within the bar.
This is so calming , you really break it down as a drummer and a lot of other genres I’ve naturally applied these things to seeing it apply to hip-hop really feels like it’s a progression. There’s more to the world and for for 🙏🎶🥳
you are such a legend. Thank you for making these videos. I'm not a rapper, but I play keys/guitar and applying these ideas to licks is really fruitful
I love how you break this down. I've been freestyle for over 15 years and it's crazy how I never know what these different styles are called. My brain just formulates different flows based on the beach per minute so I can create unlimited flows just by listening to how much space I have before the snare and the drum head, thank you so much for explaining this really cool flow. I'm not sure I've ever attempted to try this one, butif I write it down, I can accomplish it trying to freestyle. This technique will be a challenge.
Amazing, I just got it (07/04/24 @ 08:55 U.K. time) after watching it about 20 times. Really impressed especially as I am a nerd with things like this, word nerd definitely and now the maths and science are making me even more interested, I heard when you said 'map the syllables to the main numbers in the sequence' but I didn't understand 'til now. Amazing.
Dude, it be rapper who understands this that be the best. I’m convinced that you Ghost write for a lot of Artist. You are an uncrowned king of this shet.
Bro I just came across your reels like a day or two ago, and I have to tell you, while I’m primarily a math-metal musician, I’m legit getting inspired by your breakdowns and understanding of meter and rhythm in general. I’m also a writer/poet, and don’t limit myself to any particular genre, and take inspiration any way I can get it. Early on, I used to be *really* into crunching numbers to see what kinds of patterns would emerge and used it a lot in my earlier days of writing guitar parts. I’ve always been very rhythm focused, and find that even writing prose has a certain musicality and cadence that drives what and how I write. So you just earned a sub, and I’m definitely going to try mucking about with this pattern tonight! I feel like that 5-6-7-6 turn is gonna be mad difficult, so I’ll probably start with going up to 5 and returning to 1 to give a 1-2-3-4-6 sorta feel. But goddamn, I haven’t felt this inspired to write shit in a LONG time, so I just want to say thanks man!!
I heard this somewhere…when listening to music your brain is subconsciously counting and trying to recognize patterns. When you hear a beat you like, your brain is enjoying the patterns it’s “hearing”
If only the connection between math and music (theory) were taught like this in school I would have had a greater appreciation in my youth for both; but I went to public school, where creativity goes to die.
I had a music teacher in high school that would start every year by telling people rap wasn't real music because his definition of music only included melody. I think about sending him your videos all the time
@mazbouQ I kno u don't kno me, but when ur videos come across my feed. It takes everything in me not to break down and cry. On one hand, I look in your face and see my older brother. I loved him so much but we got separated bc of dif parents but when I eventually found him again in adulthood, and he hates me and refuses to talk to me and I'm not evn sure why. I don't kno where we went wrong or what changed. I remember him as the person who protected me from bullies, who laughed w me and had my back, was evn got whooping together. I even wanted to name my first son after him but I no longer kno who he is. So when ur face comes up I am overwhelmed w so many emotions. Im in tears jus tryna get thru this. I hate that this happened between us but even w all that on the other hand, Seeing ur face also makes me happy bc when u smile and talk, I hear him. What's crazy is he raps too. I feel like I'm learning from him. So anyway, I'm sorry for dumping that on u, but thank u so much for keeping the memory of who he was alive. And I love ur channel too btw.

lol
This what Mos Def was talking about on Mathematics
💯 Lot of people was lost
Damn I was just thinking this yesterday
I’m old - like as old as Mos Def. Mathematics-was levels deep of nuance. I’m glad to hear Mr. Bey’s name dropped here.
Thats the first thing I thought of
“If you wanna learn how to rhyme, you better learn how to add. It’s mathematics”
That's a crazy rhytmic pattern bro

One of the reasons so many rappers mention mathematics in rap (Mos Def, Wu-Tang/Method Man, ...).
Your, sir, are dope af 🔥
I know Wu members who was Five Percenters..not sure about the others that spoke on mathematics. Makes sense about the interest in numbers.

This is the coolest shit its so hype to see this type of musical breakdown for hip hop
You must not listen to much music or don't know shit about music theory. ALL music has math.
This channel is incredible. I’ve never thought of rap, or music in general, in mathematical terms. I find myself listening to rap differently now.
Seeing and listening explanations for shit i already felt and percieved but had no name nor method for is bringing me to tears.
Exactly bro. Had the same sentiment. Music is just beauty

No it isn't,this is basic time Signature music theory...You're just dumb when it comes to music.
I swear bro rapper that knows music theory got this advantage. They can flow and add some melody to their rap and it'll sound good.
