My mother was born in Winnipeg in 1923. She grew up on Home St , but married my Dad in 1950 -a former British RAF man and moved to England. We used to visit my grandma who remained living on Home St until 1978 when she passed away. I have very fond memories of childhood holidays there. I fondly remember seeing ''The Wizard of Oz'' at the Rainbow Theatre and eating at a dive in A and W ! Not sur if 341 Home St is still in existence . If anyone can enlighten me , I'd be grateful. It had an attic room and a wooden front porch the last time I was there !
The final shot is Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 737 Bannerman at Arlington (completed 1966). Judging by the crowd, it's a Sunday morning and they're coming out of the Divine Liturgy (Mass).
Down town winnpeg use to be such a beautiful place. Have to say thanks to all the homeless, pan handlers and junkies that have turned it into what it is today
Wow. Looking at these pictures, very fine and nice to see. Although muddled by the fact that more that two indigenous individuals could not congregate.
They're taking over , them n those Samolians Trudeau can't bring them over fast enough Every Tim Hortons , gas station and truck companies They are Canada's "stimulus package" cuz of cheaper labour I'm guessing! Not so noticeable in USA !
Thank you. I haven't lived in Winnipeg since 1980. I recognize some of these images.
When it still was the home of people that built it.
