    Would have been 9 years old. I wondered when I watched it if I was in any of these videos with my Mom driving around or in the store. I miss her so much. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

      I agree . I was 22 and in my prime just starting to really hit the bar scene and everything all over. Man those days were great and would kill to go back to a time before cell phones. Great video

      Won't lie, I mostly watch these "old Winnipeg" videos because I'm hoping to spot my gramma driving around. At this point you'd be just as likely to spot me and some other miscreants in my old blue Ford Maverick as well. I have already had the experience of spotting her on youtube once - I had no idea, but there's a video on here about the McIntyre Block and she's having her fortune told. So now I pine for another hit.

    Interesting video. The other day I was describing to my kids how the lane direction change lights used to work on the old Main/Norwood bridges. Now I can show them this video so they can see for themselves.

      This was probably taken in the afternoon rush hour, since the middle lane was red-X so it was reversed outbound. The 3.58m (11'9") side clearance had to be so challenging, since many trucks surely were clipped by the hanging pillar over the curb lane - it wasn't built to 1980s road width standards. As it was, 4.1m (13'5") - the general clearance - was quite marginal for large trucks and it was not easy to bypass that corridor without taking the Perimeter.

    Winnipeg offered a simpler life for sure, than Houston, Texas where I am now. I grew up in Winnipeg and went to Shaftesbury High School between 88-91.

    One thing I had immediately checked is the old defunct rail line parallel to St James. I'm a sucker for trains.
    IIRC about the lane lights, St. James had them too... probably to aide traffic from the Arena and Stadium.
    Green paint on light standards were so vibrant. Too bad they rust easily once they used salt on the roads during winter. Disraeli Bridge might've used the same paint. That went brown for years!

    I live down by the Legislature and have always wondered what used to be in the vacant lot at the SE corner of Kennedy and Assiniboine. Those buildings must have been torn down sometime in the 90’s or early 2000’s.

    Sure, the city is newer now, again, more so since the 1960's, but those years were more less fast pace, stress-less, and just good ole simpler times. I would give ANY money just to go back when, and live it again :D

    Can we stop at Saan or Macleod's so I can get better swim trunks? Nevermind, let's just head straight to Skinner's Wet 'n Wild.
    No? Bah... but it's summer.
    Well we're downtown, let's go to Magicland. I wanna beat Narc on 40 quarters worth of gameplay!
    and on the way back can we stop at Pick-a-flick, I wanna rent Police Academy 6!
    Why notttttttttt.... Well can we at least stop at Sam The Record Man? I wanna get the Prince soundtrack to Batman! It's Batmania!
    Why are we still in the car???
    Now quick. Pick up a pencil and a piece of paper to write down which error, I repeat which error Astro made on purpose...

    • @nardpuncher
      @nardpuncher 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait... I know the mistake. Magicland had free play there. Pay by the hour. I remember they had a dealer was $3.50 from 9 a.m. to noon and one day where there was no school I went there and would you believe it I was actually bored by about 11 and left early.

    • @rabbitgrove
      @rabbitgrove 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nardpuncher Good guess, but no. I said "40 quarters worth" because it's an absurd amount of quarters to spend on one game, and would only make sense to do if it was unlimited. But I can see how the wording could come across the other way.
      The mistake was that Macleod's was a hardware store, they wouldn't have sold swim trunks.

    My god its hard to even IMAGINE this once existed AT ALL, let alone less than 30 years ago. Degeneracy, poverty, 3rd world immigrants have absolutely destroyed the city and country as a whole. Times like this were so calm, peaceful, crime free, affordable, AFFORDABLE HOUSING and transportation! Look how clean the streets are! No homeless, drunks, Indian truck drivers mowing pedestrians down or causing major traffic issues.
