I was pushed twice into the deep end of the pool and I almost drowned twice. So I sort of developed a fear of water. In 2014, I decided to learn swimming and get rid of the fear of water. It wasn't easy and I was the slowest learner in my swim class. 2 months into swimming lessons, I didn't learn how to take breaths between strokes. That was when I came across 2012 London Paralympics swimming videos on TH-cam. A young double arm amputee paralympian from China(Zheng Tao) won the men's 100 mts backstroke. I have never seen anyone move like a torpedo in water like that till I saw him. He inspired me so much that I taught myself how to breathe between strokes. Not just that, I taught myself; the butterfly, the breast stroke and the back stroke. The fear of water vanished. He made me fall in love with swimming and the water. For that, I am indebted to him. PS. He again won gold in the same category in Rio 2016 as well. He is totally my hero.
I'm so happy and proud of all of them. Damn i have both of my arms and i cant even swim but look at them. Nothing cant stop you from reaching your dreams, from doing what makes you happy
Hey man, I know it’s been 4 years so you may not even see this, and it may not be much, but you aren’t weak. Watching these games of all things should show that everyone is built different. My sister has chronic pain, and sometimes she can’t even get out of bed. These athletes are extremely well trained and fortunate to be able to achieve these things. Just because your pain isn’t the same doesn’t mean you are lesser than them. I hope your semester off helped you and you are doing better now. Some people, like these athletes, their love for the sport can drive them to try their damndest, even if it hurts them more. When I was younger, I was on the swim team, and I sprained my wrist. I didn’t tell anyone, and just wrapped it up and went to practice anyway, causing me more pain and more damage. Once, I had a test I had to take, but I had a horrible migraine. I didn’t want to feel useless, so I went to take the test anyways. The pain was too much and I failed, didn’t even finish the test really, whereas I could’ve stayed home, rested, and healed, and maybe I would’ve passed. You aren’t weak. I’m sorry you were in pain, I wish you the best!
I don't understand, why are there people with all their limbs in same race as guys with 2 arms missing and all the guys with 2 arms missing are swimming so much faster?
Never have I felt so inspiration and amazing . These swim water people are beautiful talents in their craft. In my country, we don’t have these organisms and they are normally treated like untouchables. I want to send my best regards and many prayer blessings and blossoms to these organisms. From Tamil Nadu India 🌚🙏❤️🇮🇳🌹💐🏆🤩😘🍆🥲

wow mashallah for what they have achieved they are so sporty. We can learn from them to appreciate what we habe and take care of it aswell as seeking real mental strength.
Todos estos extraordinarios deportistas son de admirar para ellos no hay ningun*no puedo* son un ejemploo para los que nos quejamos por pequeñeses es como levantarse y quitarse el sombrero y aplaudirlos👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Does it prove that the standard backstroke "crawl" is useless? I have always felt this way, the hands and arms aren't really crawling anything like front crawl, and is a kinda unnatural movement.
That's great! Glad you liked it! :) Why not check out the recent race footage we have from the 2018 World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships, it took place in Dublin, Ireland, earlier in August: th-cam.com/play/PL6CBAXPeBajn5OOSYE9TJEomnuz_4U2-a.html
These athletes deserve much more respect and recognition.. Hats off to them for their spirit and for believing in themselves

It’s kinda sad how empty the stadium is my swim couch swam this because he is deaf they deserve more support
which one is ur coach?
I don't think is fair for the folks missing both arms to face a deaf guy, someone deaf is practically an able bodied in regard to swimming lmao

Swimming without use of arms/legs is absolutely mind blowing. I get all emotional and inspired when i watch anything these incredible athletes do ❤

The people with working arms don’t have working legs
more resistance with two arms I guess
There aren't enough athletes in the Paralympics to categorize by disability
It’s Paralympics so people with a disability can also do olympisc
They probably have cerebral palsy which is a big challenge as well.
The paralympics are so much better than the olympics
Big love and mad respect to all of these athletes, god bless them
And I don't even know how to swim. Full respect to these wonderful athletes
Wait a minute, KJ can't swim?😅😂
Iconic bc u use backstroke with your arms and legs. And thos who has no arms were in the lead. Damnn so proud of them
What an inspiration these young people are to the whole world. If you don’t watch the Paralympics, you don’t see total courage.

incredible. How amazing. Without arms they are swimming. whereas I can't do backstroke inspite of being in the pool for the last 2 months.
A lot less drag without those arms and hands and so much lighter to swim thru the water like a shark, it's amazing, anything is possible.
