To be fair, most of the Ithacan soldiers were either of marrying age or recently married before they went to war, which puts them at between 25 and 30 when they set sail to Troy. This makes them 35-40 at this point (with Odysseus being around 37, Polities being a similar age as they were boyhood pals, and his brother-in-law and 2nd in command Eurylochus around 38 - married to Ody's younger sister). Polities isn't naive... he just chooses to look at things perhaps overly optimistically, especially as he survived a horrific 10 year war and continues to have faith in his King's cunning and ability to get then out of any trouble.
So originally the Lotus Eaters are other sailors who stranded on that island and get drugged by eating Lotus and forgetting all their problems and who they are... but because of these cute goblin voices one of the most popular animatic artist (mircsy) draw them as small furry cute plush-like creatures and now they are almost like a mascot of the Epic: The Musical. They are collectively called Winions together with some similar cute wind minion creatures in a later song (Keep your friends close). So basically Winions are small cute troublemaker creatures in this version of Odyssey. Also the fanbase of the musical started calling themselves as the Winions and new record publisher firm made by Jorge also got named Winion Entertainment LLC.

The lotus eaters in Jorge’s version are tiny, cutesy, weird little creatures with mostly good intentions, just like the aliens in Toy Story. They even kind of tried to warn them about the cave. If you listen carefully, you can hear one of them going “scary cave” in the background when they’re telling Polites about it.

Polities and and Eurylochus definitely serve as the angel and devil on the shoulder for Odysseus early on with Polities being the angel with the greeting the world with open arms and Eurylochus with the lets just raid the place. Also best part is the little scary cave in the background

I really think you should go back and watch the animatics for the first saga before jumping into the second one. They add so much context to the songs and Jorge himself praise them a lot. He is even working with the animators now every time that a knew saga drops. Highly recommend, specially to clear up any confusions.

Ok. Saying it right now. You HAVE TO watch the animatics for the next saga, specifically the ones by Mircsy, and WolfyTheWitch (specifically Mircsy’s for the first few, then Wolfy’s as the last two). They add _so much_ to the story. (And maybe Open Arms so you can see how Mircsy draw Polites and the lotus eaters).
I honestly prefer not having the animatics. Every other creator reacts to those and not having them is kinda refreshing, seeing how someone without that influence interprets the story through Jorge's musical story telling as opposed to the visual of the animatics.

Totally agreed. Without visuals, it's hard to tell what's meant to happen in the story. If you're not 100% aware of what goes on in the Odyssey, you'll end up totally lost and miss what Jorge intended. Most of the best animators REALLY know their Greek history, if not hired to create canon-accepted bits for Jorge's premieres.
Polites is an actual character from the Odyssey, he’s mentioned only once by Homer and confirmed to be a member of Odysseus crew and his best friend so is safe to say Jorge expanded is role on the story. Eurylochus the second in command in the previous song is Odysseus brother in law and also got an expanded role and serves as the character speaking for the rest of the men. A small rule of thumb with epic is assuming that the events of the odyssey are pretty much the same unless it’s explicitly change or contradicted by the songs, so try to be both mindful of the original but also open to change, anything that’s not shown to be different (off screen events or implied) is safe to assume it is as Homer told it (like the death of Hectors son by being dropped from the walls of Troy).
Polites has two scenes in the Odyssey, both on Circe's island. His fate is never directly given, although there are other ancient Greek stories (at this point, I would label them as "Odyssey fanfiction") where Polites gets separated from the crew some time after Circe. Precisely what happens changes from story to story, and it's a bit too "intense" for TH-cam, but let's just say, I prefer Jorge's Polites WAY more than the original. Here, he's a sweetie. In actual Greek stories, he's the worst scum.
I cant help but feel a lot is being missed by not watching the animation. I respect the decision to listen to the music only but I highly encourage watching the animation the second time around
Respectfully, I don’t think that is true. EPIC as a musical will obviously have visuals later in the future, but these concept albums are *supposed* to be only audio. And frankly, these two are doing really good at catching things, even without animatics (I didn’t think they would be able to know it was Zeus talking in the Horse and the Infant, for example) I do think animatics make things hit *harder* especially in the next saga, but it’s not absolutely necessary
I agree they do well to get a lot of the themes and references, but I think if they see the winions as non-threatening it helps establish themes regarding reactions to traumatic events, the nature of threats, Odysseus’ mindset and whether polites is just overly optimistic or dangerously nieve
I kinda don't love the re-recorded vocals for the Lotus Eaters. The original version made it sound like it was a whole crowd of them with many over-lapping voices, but the remake kinda sounds more like there are only 3 or 4 of them. This version reminds me more of those little green aliens from Toy Story than the whole tribe implied by the story

You guys seem to have alot of confusion about characters and what's happening at times. The songs have anmatics tied to them which really had slot and show story plot points that and are explicit in the song. Highly recommended using those for reactions.
Panda, island vibes does not equal reggae lol. Feels more like, tropical house to me but steel drums =/= reggae haha. Also, weird you just heard a random jungle animal noise and were like 'no you may NOT relax' lol. Weird you think Polites is being naive for wanting to take Odysseus out of soldier mindset and more into civilian mindset. That's honestly what this song is, that and 'look if you extend a little trust to someone you can get a lot more out of life and they'll surprise you right back'. He maybe is naive but i don't think the point of this song was to showcase how naive he is, after all, these characters don't know they're in the Odyssey haha, ofc we know it's far from over, but as far as they're concerned the war is done and they're headed home to their families yknow?
