Mr. Brownstone is a reference to the drug Heroin. The band had a lot of issues with heroin during their early days. Axl even said on stage once that if certain members don’t stop dancing with Mr. Brownstone that there won’t be a Guns N Roses. Mainly Izzy, Slash & Adler were heavy users.
Jay Deno apparently this guy didn’t know.
I think honestly it was BECAUSE of that Rant it eventually pushed Slash and Izzy to get clean because Axl called them out on it, while Axl could be an asshole you had to respect he has always had a no hold barred way of stating his opinions even if you don't agree with him which is why I love him.
Hell Slash got clean or was trying to get clean and Axls diva ways still ran him off from the band. I would have been done after the Indiana riot. Slash could write his own ticket at any time.
Mr. Brownstone = drugs. APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION is probably ( in my opinion) the greatest hard rock album from beginning to end. When it came out it really changed the face of hard rock with the quality of all the songs plus the fact that the band members actually were such 'BAD boys' in real life as well. When their next album - Use Your Illusion 1 and 2 came out , it pretty much cemented them as the biggest band on the planet, passing Metallica, who were also huge at that time. What a rìde they had for 5 years before the break ups began.🤘🍺

They have a lot of really good intros. I've noticed that with gnr. This song, welcome to the jungle, sweet child o mine, you could be mine, coma, rocket queen (my personal favorite), paradise city. It's almost like they prided themselves on making awesome intros

The riffing in Brownstone is amazing. That transition from Slash's solo back into the third verse is just so tight and on point.

This is my personal favorite song off that album. You don't want any. As some have already said below, heroine. Stay away.
People think of Guns n Roses, and too many don't think, "Wow, that's fuckin' great actual music!" and instead remember the controversies. GnR _almost_ saved metal.

Mr. Brownstone is talking about addiction to black tar heroin, which is generally what you get in L.A.

"Used To Love Her", excellent song. Look up "Used to love her live late night show 1988", this is an excellent live version, even if the footage is a little rough. I think this song caused controversy back in the day, people didn't realize the song was about a dog, not a woman. You'll see what I mean, when you hear the lyrics.
Love GNR. And it's all Prince's fault. In 2017 they played a show at my job🎸 I saw the Prince symbol on Duff's guitar and damn near cried. Been a fan ever since. And Slash is just an absolute god.
Kick ass classic song there will definitely never be anything else like it ever again in history! I remember when I first heard them I was only about ten or eleven years old and I was an instant fan!

That unique drum pattern is one of many reasons why Steven Adler was so important to GNR and why they were never the same after he was fired.

"I used to do a little but a little wasn't doing so a little got more and more" there are subtle hints in the lyrics that the song is about heroin - the first verse is about the dude having a routine life - waking up at 7, getting out of bed around 9 and when the dude starts his dancing with Mr. Brownstone, the drug starts to mess withl his life where his life as it becomes out of synch and his daily routine goes out the window now that he wakes up whenever
Mr brownstone was written about an apartment complex in west Lafayette indiana, on purdues campus, its where axl bought heroine
This is the same album that Paradise city, Sweet child o' Mine, it's so easy, night train and welcome to the jungle. And good 70 to 80% of the album songs are among their biggest hits.

The skull at 12 o'clock is Izzy Stradlin. The skull at 3 o'clock wearing the bandana is Duff, 6 is Slash, 9 is Steven Adler, Centre is Axl.
Izzy is also wearing headwear but it's not a top hat. From afar it gives the appearance of it being top hat due to the "N" in the banner but it is not.
Izzy was wearing a bowler in some interviews. He wore a beret at some gigs.

I've never done heroin, but this song is the anthem of anyone that has been addicted to anything.
This song is about heroin just the life being addicted to such a hard drug that never leaves you alone cuz of the sickness and the life it entails such a creative song with sneaky lyrics this album is bar none the greatest hard rock album of all time
Nick Appetite for Destruction was their first album. This album made number one for a very long time. When they use mr. Brownstone it can refer to people that use heroin or whatever a person is going through this evil thing that the person is going through is called mr. Brownstone
Have you done "Since I Don't Have You" or "Used To Love Her"? Those are two of the less played ones but 2 of my favorites. This band is my all time favorite singer/band. Thank you for the reactions to them.
It's funny you mention Dr. Feelgood before hearing it... Also a song about drugs. Both have a similar ripping edge to them, yet both unique to each band.

As people have pointed out, its about heroin. Im surprised af ALL those guys are still alive with their rep back in the day. Other bands had deaths in far less time than the amount the band lived the way they did.... they werent called the world's most dangerous band for nothing.

There's a very cool video for this song, type in "Mr Brownstone unreleased video". I think it was meant to be the official video, but was never released. Also, check out You Could Be Mine by GNR. It has an even more epic and rockin buildup, and its my fav GNR song.

Hey Nick I do feel sorry for you in the generation today that you didn't have the opportunity to live in the generation I did I was a teenager in the 70s and got to experience all these great groups and they are still kicking. Again mr. Brownstone it is anything that pertains to you that is like somebody who is on heroin or something in their life that is holding them down
It’s an album cover - the largest selling debut album of all time. It’s full of great songs, not one bad song on the album. This is perhaps one of the best rock albums of all time! Congrats for straying away from the weak ‘Use Your Illusion’ albums.

It's in regards to heroin. However, as Axl has put it in his own words it is any type of addiction that you may have and it could be as simple as watching, TV eating too many fruits, something is always a Mr brownstone.

You need to try pretty tied up. We also need to go into the Chinese democracy album, awesome songs. This I love, which he sings back then with different band members. However, since they began touring in 2016 all the original band members Duff / and Axl sing it again and it's bomb. The song better, sorry, and there was a time off of the Chinese democracy album, unbelievable. There are so many, I can make a list as long as my arm, but with the Chinese democracy songs they do have different band members when the album was made. The original band members are now singing it just as well if not better. 🌹✌️
