About 3 years ago I was in a customers basement fixing their telephone issue. I looked over at the crawl space and saw an old rusted up mold covered bolt action sitting on a concrete block. When I went back upstairs I told the that it was a shame to let an old gun to rust like that. She told me that it was something her ex- husband had left behind years before. Needless to say she said I could have it, as well as anything else in that corner. I walked out with some various hunting gear, a Parker Compound Bow, and that bolt Action. The " rifle" turned out was a 20 Guage Revelation bolt action shotgun. 3 round detachable mag. After tearing it all down and cleaning it all up , it is a great addition to my collection. Sanded the stock down and refinished it as well as cleaned all the rust off and re-blued all the metal
I've owned my 330A for only 51 years, so I'm still getting used to it. My father bought it from the Western Auto store as a Christmas present for me in 1970. I was 12 and I think he was showing that he trusted me. So it is priceless to me now. By the way... it's fun to shoot, too.
When I was a kid, the “family guns” were a Remington .22 single shot bolt action rifle and a Mossberg 410 bolt action shotgun. Dad taught me to shoot with the .22. When I got big enough to try the Mossberg I was worried about the recoil, but it wasn't bad. That was sixty plus years ago. Those guns are still hanging on the wall at my Mom's house. A few weeks ago, I went up to stay with her a while and took my gun cleaning gear to give them a good cleaning. I discovered that the Mossberg had an internal magazine, which I had not known - always fired it single shot. Anyway, that Mossberg is exactly like this Revelation except that it has a choke. I enjoyed your video of this very old shotgun. 😊

I have one of those in 16 gage with an adjustable choke. My dad bought it for me when I was 15. It was used and I remember that he paid 20 dollars for it. It was the gun that he taught me to hunt with. All of my friends had the same gun except in 20 gage. I used to tell them that they weren’t man enough to handle a 16! I spent thousands of happy hours carrying that gun around the woods and killed a lot of birds and rabbits with it. 50 years later and after a lifetime of hunting, that gun still has a place in my safe. I worked at Western Auto for 23 years starting in 1989. I actually have the last 22 rifle that our store had when I started. Western Auto stopped selling guns around 1989. I also acquired a 20 ga bolt action shotgun at one time but I ended up selling it. It was a smooth shooting shotgun that i enjoyed shooting. I also wanted to say that I really enjoy your video's and have learned a lot from you!
That's similar to the Mossberg 183 D, I have the 183 K which has the C-LECT choke. I remember the old Western Auto in our hometown, My favorite place to visit when I was a kid. I recall it had a certain smell to it and as soon as you said Western Auto that came flooding back. Great memories!
Mr. Hickok, a bolt-action 12-gauge shotgun was handed down to me by my Dad many years ago. This shotgun is one of the Sear's Roebuck shotguns, a JC Higgins Model with a 3-shot capacity. The JC Higgins bolt actions are seen in most pawn shops, even though they have been out of production for decades. At one time a very popular hunting shotgun with hunters on a budget, farmers always needed a shotgun around, a hunting/self defense arm for guys like me. Even though I'm fortunate to own several firearms, this JC Higgins has a strong sentimental hold on me. I'm 70+years of age and this shotgun has been in my home for over 5-decades now. My Mom gave this JC Higgins Shotgun to my Dad on Christmas Morning 1958 and that was a big deal for my Dad. I was a young fella then, but I remember my Dad's excitement at this gift from his wife, my mother. Thanks for this video Mr. Hickok, it brought back some great memories for a youthful man!
I have a 183KB. My dad received it when he was 9 as his first gun. I received it when I was 9 as my first gun. I still hunt with it on occasion and wish I knew the number of meals that that awesome piece of history provided. Love the old great guns that are still chugging along today.
That 22 probably was a Winchester model 67 or 67A. Bought mine for $25.00 when I was 14 or 15 with money from working on the neighbors farm. Still own and fire it 60 years later. It’s deadly accurate for having open sights.
I give my son a 1966 Harris and Richardson 12 gauge bolt action shotgun, has the screw on choke and 3 shot good ole gun , great shape and shoots great. Great Video 👍
My 1st rifle from my late dad is a Savage 340 bolt action 3030win.with 3 detacheable mags.I harvested my 1st deer with it&thats when my dad gave it to me.
I have a .410 bolt action mossberg shotgun that was given to me by my father when I was little. It is a wonderful little shotgun. I've taken a lot of game out of the woods with it over the years, even a couple deer.
I got mine for Christmas when I was 11 yrs old. 1958. Thanks for all your reviews. It is still my favorite squirrel gun and a great Rattlesnake gun here in Arizona.
Oh my...I've got one of those! My dad got it for me about 1972. I didn't know that much about it so thanks! I got lots of good memories with that gun and hunting with my dad.
More than 50 years ago I remember our PD had short barreled Marlin bolt action 12 gauge shotguns they had IRS Treasury serial numbers on the barrels. Also adjustable chokes
Thanks for the fine videos ) 56 yrs young ) at 7. Got my first squirrel gun. A 22 cal. 7 shot with a clip . came from Montgomery ward . Harrington Richardson made it. Fine plonker. Shoots low left ; )
I'm a product of the early 60s and remember Western Auto in their hay day. They probably sold more starter shooting and hunting firearms than anyone else. Thanks for the memories of simpler times.
Single shot guns and rifles are my favorite. It is nice putting the ammunition into the chamber and closing the breach or bolt. Something about feeling the mechanics.
I just want you to know I love these videos. I used to go shooting with my grandfather every summer when I visited him as a kid and since he's got older we just can't do that anymore. These videos remind me of the first time I shot a 10 gauge, and I'm happy you can still go out to the range at your age :)
We had one growing up. Papa decided which of us 3 boys got to shoot what-the single action .410, or 16Ga or the bolt action .410. When my older brother got his Wingmaster at 12 years old, I finally got to choose, and the hunt for birds or rabbits would continue and I finally got to shoot the bolt gun, which made me feel like a big game hunter.
This was my first shotgun. It was a Mossberg with an adjustable choke. My dad bought it for me in 1965. I still have it and still hunt small game with it.
My first shotgun was a 20ga bolt action Mossberg. It worked wonderfully and was easy to shoot and very accurate. I can't understand why they aren't more popular.
Thirty years ago I bought my children Winchester Model 67's single shot bolt action rifles to learn how to shoot. They were cheap then, but selling around $250 and more now. I have a Revelation 12 ga pump my uncle left me, it is a Mossberg 500 in reality. Also have a 16 ga bolt action, but not sure what name is on it. It belonged to my dad who passed away many years ago. I love the old guns and never get tired of you bringing one out to shoot it.
My very first gun was a Sears branded bolt action .410. It was passed on to my cousin and is now lost the time. Savage now markets the 200 series (212 and 220) that are bolt action shotguns as well.
I’m so glad to see you do this video. I have a moss berg and son 410 bolt action just like this with the screw tip choke. This is definitely one of my fun guns. I love my 410 bolt action.
The first shotgun I used to hunt Rabbits in the early 60's was a Mossburg 16 gage bolt action and it had a variable choke which I don't think are made anymore...anyway it was light weight, fast to swing for a young boy and worked fine for me... those were some good days to be alive..
Accidentally found a 410 bolt action tube feed ....found it , bought it , cleaned in up shoots great. Only drawback was the cost of ammo vs cost of 12 gauge.
When I was a boy, if you didn't have a bolt action shotgun, one of your buddies did. Cheap - solid - reliable - and balanced like a fence post. Revelation (Western Auto), Western Field (Montgomery Wards), and JC Higgins (Sears and Roebuck) were the guns we learned on - "store brands", but boy were we proud of 'em!
My dad got me one when I was in the 4th grade. My constant companion for a few summers. It was the best firearm in the world to a young boy in the woods of north ga.
I inherited a Western Field M150D from my father. It's actually a Mossberg 183 they manufactured for Montgomery Ward's Western Field store brand. I just did a quick search and found that yours is a Mossberg #83B. They stopped making them in 1946.
i have the exact model. My father got it as a gift from parents when he was 8 in 1960. ordered from sears and robuck catalog. Every male in my family used this as their first hunting shotgun ever since. my kids are using it now.
Western Auto , Montgomery Ward , and Gibsons … those were the stores where I got lost as a kid ; spending My allowance on things You can’t even find on eBay anymore… My mother has this exact same shotgun . I always thought Stevens/ Savage made it … well, I learned something else today . Thank You
I have a friend from college who had a bolt action 16 gauge with a collet style adjustable choke. This 410 is my second introduction to bolt action shotguns.
This was my first gun. It was a gift from my grandfather when I was 11. I learned to hunt rabbits and squirrels with this gun. I am in my 50's and it will be passed on to one of my sons. Probably my favorite gun.
I have a bolt action .410 Savage at the cottage, my chicken/raven/coyote gun. Must be 80 years old, as I got it from my dad, but it's the perfect lake gun, for what I ask of it. A pot gun, and to protect my dog.
My Dad gave me a Mossberg bolt action 20 gauge with screw on choke. That would have been in 1970. I passed it on to my nephew when he turned 16. He still has it. gun is worth about $125, but to our family it is priceless.
Yep as far as I could remember they sold the brand name Stevens line of guns or maybe even Montgomery Wards one or the other carried that brand name !!!! Hearken the good ole days from yesteryears !!!
Yes sir. I got mine on my 7th birthday in 1975, I still have it , and got alot of hunting stories behind it. Thanks for sharing your videos and knowledge.
This thing looks a lot like a bolt action Mossberg shotgun that my mother has, and was the first one I ever fired. (forgot the model) It has a built in adjustable choke which is a lot of fun to play with. My mother killed her first deer with that gun and I killed a lot of birds as a boy with it on the farm. Good times.
I have one it’s a 183KB, it’s 410, holds 2+1 rounds. I love it, my granny’s boyfriend gave it to me along with a Hawken 50 caliber muzzleloader, a single shot Remington 20gauge, and another Mossberg 410 bolt action with a fixed full choke.

My First gun was a Bolt action Savage Steven's model 58 Series F 410 shotgun I still have it to this day great small game gun!
My 1st rifle from my late dad is a Savage 340 bolt action 3030win.with 3 detacheable mags.I harvested my 1st deer with it&thats when my dad gave it to me.
My dad has one of these and this is the first time I've ever seen anyone talking about one. Great gun to shoot! fun to plink with.
I have a .410 bolt action mossberg shotgun that was given to me by my father when I was little. It is a wonderful little shotgun. I've taken a lot of game out of the woods with it over the years, even a couple deer.
A great old gun.
We had the .22 model when we were kids growing up on the farm on Maryland's Beautiful Eastern Shore 🇺🇸
I got mine for Christmas when I was 11 yrs old. 1958. Thanks for all your reviews. It is still my favorite squirrel gun and a great Rattlesnake gun here in Arizona.
Great little shotgun. I have had my mossberg version with the barrel choke since the 1980's.
Oh my...I've got one of those! My dad got it for me about 1972. I didn't know that much about it so thanks! I got lots of good memories with that gun and hunting with my dad.
We have a large western auto building in Kansas City, Missouri. It’s now lofts. The red sign on top still lights up.
I got this for Christmas in 1965 at western auto for 29.95, I was 14 , still have it today, still have the booklet, thanks for reviewing this one DAN
My first shotgun that my dad bought for me in the early ‘70s was a Revelation 20 gauge pump action…still have it today.
My father gave me one similar to this one. It had two screw on chokes, made by Mossberg. I still have it and plan to give it to my grandson.
My first shotgun was a JC Higgins, bolt action 12 guage. It too only held 3 shells. This was in the 50's.
I also have a sweet on stevens 410 bolt action shotgun /sweet shooter !!/proly 60+ years old never misses a beat
This exact model was my first ever gun, oh how I love it
This was my first shotgun. It was a Mossberg with an adjustable choke. My dad bought it for me in 1965. I still have it and still hunt small game with it.
I actually have one of those. It was my Grandfather's.
It was also available in 20ga.
Same here my grandma bought for him as a gift
My Mossberg 20 gauge was a bolt-action with a 3 round box magazine.
@@FredTheLutinoCocatiel I have an oldie as well, Mossberg 3 rd box in a 12 gauge it's a real kicker.👍
My first shotgun was a 20ga bolt action Mossberg. It worked wonderfully and was easy to shoot and very accurate. I can't understand why they aren't more popular.
i never knew shotguns could be bolt action
Edit: I am still getting replies for this comment it is very annoying
Old school, my great grandma had this same shotgun.
I used to have a bolt action 410 when I was a kid. It was my first gun. I think it was a JC Higgins Sears and Roebuck.
you could make it work in every manually operated system
Super fun action
Im not sure but a fps game has a bolt action shotgun. They are very rare.
I have that exact same shotgun. We take it out 3 or 4 times a year. It was both my kids' first shots with shotguns.
I’m so glad to see you do this video. I have a moss berg and son 410 bolt action just like this with the screw tip choke. This is definitely one of my fun guns. I love my 410 bolt action.
My very first hunt / kill was with a bolt action .410 with my Pawpaw. Brings back memories!
Lol, those use to be sold at hardware stores and mom and pop stores many years ago!
Yup, bought mine at a Marathon gas station in the mid seventies! Great little gun and still have it ...Harrington & Richardson.
And no kid ever thought about bringing one to school and shooting up the place back then either...
Great to see someone else with a bolt action shotgun. I have 2; Mossberg 16 gauge and a Marlin 12 gauge. The Mossberg was my Grandfather's.
The first shotgun I used to hunt Rabbits in the early 60's was a Mossburg 16 gage bolt action and it had a variable choke which I don't think are made anymore...anyway it was light weight, fast to swing for a young boy and worked fine for me... those were some good days to be alive..
The 16 Gauge is pretty rare compared to the 12 or 20 (I had a Mossberg Montgomery Ward 20 Gauge).
My first gun my Grandfather gave me when I was a child was a J stevens bolt action 410 I still use it best Squirrel and rabbit gun ever.
I used to love going into Western Auto when I was a kid,,,,,they had about everything
Back in '66, I spent 70 bucks of hard earned snow shoveling money on a brand new black Schwinn Fastback 5 speed Stingray.
Accidentally found a 410 bolt action tube feed ....found it , bought it , cleaned in up shoots great. Only drawback was the cost of ammo vs cost of 12 gauge.
Looks a whole like my grandfather's Mossberg from many years ago, I took a lot of squirrels with it when I was a kid 👍
Revelation is a Mossberg.
I've got a Mossberg 20 ga
@@jeffhollon395 I have one in my gun safe. Good old companion.
@@jeffhollon395 Oh. Well no wonder ours looks like the same thing.
I own a stevens 410 bolt action. It's old, but functions perfectly! Awesome video!
Is your Steven's a tube fed?
My dad got me one when I was in the 4th grade. My constant companion for a few summers. It was the best firearm in the world to a young boy in the woods of north ga.
I have a Wards Western Field 93M-211A 410 one of my favorites. Gave a big whopping $39.00 for it at a gun-shop a few years ago!
Thank You
I believe that Stevens/Savage made the side-by-side models.
Yeah, I got a .410 22lr over/under made by Stevens. My grandfather gave me
C.R.F. : I had a 22 Magnum / 20 gauge set up that I lost in the shuffle many years ago. Man, I loved that gun.
My dad had one. Me and my brother inherited it. It’s a good squirrel Gun.
Been subbed since the beginning, love that it's been so long and we're still going strong
Praise The Sun buddy!
@@Uchoobdood I got hooked back when Hickok was at just a million or so, that's been a while now.
He's a National Treasure!
I have a friend from college who had a bolt action 16 gauge with a collet style adjustable choke. This 410 is my second introduction to bolt action shotguns.
Guns like this really take me back to my youngest days hunting. Love 'em.
Reminds me of sears when they sold guns, we still have a western auto/true value in Pennsylvania yet
Good times.
i have one 20 gauge western field i believe cool gun
Yeah my dad has a bolt action 20 gauge, Mossberg 185k-A
We have an old Mossberg 185 in our collection. It’s a 20GA and if I remember correctly it’s a late 50’s production shotgun.
Mossberg made them for Western Auto, as well. I got one a little while ago and love it.
One of the guns I wanted as a boy but never owned. Brings back good memories.
