    I have had a MoRa 420 since 2017. Best investment I ever made, watercooling-wise.
    One thing I'd like to comment on. When you use QDCs, it's best to use one male and one female connector at the bottom, and leave the tubing slightly longer. That way, you no longer need the "loopy loop", because you can connect the two QDC halves to each other.

    Note: If one wants to use two fan grills with the MO-RA, then one should only use the middle two holes on the MO-RA (that is, the ones along the "back of the spine" of the MO-RA). Otherwise the fan grills won't fit because they'll be blocked by tubing. I found this out the hard way. Otherwise, great video!

    I think you said earlier in this video that you wanted to run the water IN to the rad from the top so it's not fighting gravity. In the end it looks like it's being fed in from the bottom and coming back out at the top into the res. Have I got that right or have I missed something? My mo-ra3 420 is arriving tomorrow so getting ready for the build!

      Hey there, you're absolutely right! You're the only one that's paid attention so far:-) in the end we decided it wouldn't matter. In a normal functioning loop that's closed circuit you push on one end. It will pull on the other. Like a train so it doesn't actually matter how it goes in or out. It will be the same.

    I am currently building a Mo-Ra 420 system. I don't use d5 pumps but one aquastream ulimate. I've already used a few Noctua Nf-A20 when it was still air cooled. Great fans! Since my radiator is white I kind of don't like Noctua brown or chromax black. Therefore I might try out 9x Arctic P14 PWM PST in white and run them on low rpm settings.

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I believe that's because there's really no comparison. 9 140s are definitely cooler. I can confirm that.

    • @Grimmwoldds
      @Grimmwoldds 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      200mm fans have REALLY bad static pressure(partially due to the VERY low max RPM). You cannot compare different manufacturers static pressure numbers, but if you trust them you can compare the same manufacturers numbers on their different models. Noctua's 200mm has less static pressure than their NF-S12(which has really really bad static pressure for a 120mm, it is a total airflow fan)
      However, the MORA has so much dissipation area it doesn't really matter.

    • @russellrv
      @russellrv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Grimmwoldds I am not sure if changing the fans will actually make a difference as you will hit a limit once the water in the loop get close to ambient temp. Jayztwocents did a video with a jank version of this and he didn't even use pc fans, just one massive one with almost no static pressure and it pretty much stayed at ambient temp the whole time.

  • @begna112
    @begna112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen most people online recommend the inlet into the radiator be at the top and the outlet at the bottom. Just curious why you decided to do the opposite. Doesn't that mean the force from the pumps will have to be "highest" at the very end of the loops to go up, fighting gravity? Or is the two pumps combined just so much that it doesn't matter?

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there, so technically. When you push on one end the other end will push as well. So I know it's kind of counterintuitive. But when you build a water cooling system, that's primed correctly. Gravity gets kind of canceled out. Think about it like a train. If I were to put a train on the end of the table, it would start pulling that train down. But then it would start pulling train cars on the other side up. It's technically in balance with some resistance so it's basically neutral

  • @markus30000

    Fun fact: Of the roughly (40cm)²=1600cm² of ventilated area that a radiator like this has, 344cm² are covered by the steel plate to which the fans are mounted and another 38cm² are covered by the fan hubs. So just putting it together like this (which is the way the manufacturer intends, ironically) reduces the ventilated area by almost a quarter and probably has proportional effect on performance. Ideally, you'd mount this whole thing horizontally to make convection work in your favour and then mount the fans to a sufficiently wide, airtight spacer that distributes airflow across the whole thing.

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course! The goal for this project was as quiet as possible. Ideally, for the best performance would’ve been 9x 140mm fans.

    • @markus30000
      @markus30000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TekShinji Yes, absolute fan performance increases a lot if you use Noctua's 140s, but that's not my point. Putting round fans on a square radiator will always cover up and waste a large part of it, it's unavoidable. Just nobody cares, because unless you make massive mistakes, watercooling is a brute force solution that will almost always work, especially with this amount of surface. But if you are going to mount the thing vertically anyways, you could just as easily stuff three 420s in a large case and call it a day.

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did think about making some kind of platinum/fan box. That was about 6 inches away from the radiator. That way all the air flow from the fans would be next, and it have even pressure through most of the radiator. But that sounds like a lot of work…

    • @markus30000
      @markus30000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TekShinji Depends on how you do it! You can just use M3 threaded rods and some nuts to mount the whole steel plate at a distance, close the four sides up with just about anything you've got lying around (cardboard, wood, acrylic, ducktape, etc., doesn't even have to be 100% airtight) and hang the thing horizontally underneath an IKEA Lack table with some cord.

    Did you flush the radiator prior? Or is that unnecessary? 15:40 Seeing the fan mount mounted is nice enough but the interesting bit would be the cabling and fastening it to the radiator. The 4x200 mm Noctuas, I was all over them prior to being launched. How do their limited static pressure play out compared to using 9x140s? Would be nice to see a test comparison on performance, both cooling and noise, as well as cost.

      @TekShinji  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there, initially we did use nine 140 mm fans, but the amount of work that required in the cabling just made a little bit difficult. One of my key goals for this build was as quiet as possible and when you increase the radiation surface like that, you can make the rpms much lower with large fans. It's basically an audible from more than a few feet away.

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although not a bad idea, flushing of the radiator is not necessary. If it's brand new. Some people like to do a flush or filler with certain types of chemicals. I personally don't like doing any of that. Unless the radiator has been used with unknown condition

      @@TekShinji Thank you for both your replies. I'm aiming for low noise as well. I understand the Mo-Ra isn't that dense so static pressure may be less important. About the air pressure tester : you should NEVER go past the 0.5 bar mark ! ( some rads are only rated for 0.8 max, and at that pressure, some o-rings will already start to warp )
    Pressure zones color are really misleading on that EK gauge ( the "green" zone is actually the pressure warning zone you should not get past )

    You said you like to make the top port of the radiator the in, and the bottom port the out so it does not fight gravity. I am confused by your setup. It looks to me that you have the water coming into the rad coming in at the bottom. And the water out going out from the top of the rad going into the reservoir, then to the pumps, then out to PC. This set up looks like the water is flowing from the bottom to the top of the radiator.

    • @TekShinji
      @TekShinji  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! It is a closed system, so after initial serving, and everything is primed, gravity is no longer in an issue. It’s kind of like a train. If one side pushes the other side pulls regardless of where it is
