Alfa Romeo isn't butthurt over the Hornet and Stellantis isn't dumb for offering the two cars side by side, Alfa has a much larger presence in Europe whereas Dodge has a substantially larger presence in the United States, in the United States Alfa has only 132 dealerships Nationwide compared to DCJR dealerships 2415. My Wife and I own a 2018 Jeep Renegade which is also based upon the same platform, it has been a great vehicle for us. Once we pay off the Jeep we are most likely go purchase a Hornet GLH
I have to say I am very interested to see what the GLH will exactly be, and how it'll differ from the R/T. I haven't seen any concrete specs for the GLH though, and at the MKE show last month they said it was still technically a prototype.
@@velocemidwest I think the GLH is going to be a disappointment. Yes the Old GLH didn't have 300HP but it didn't need it back then......it needs it now.
We owned two Jeep Renegades (2015 Latitude followed by 2021 Limited). No major issues with either. We just traded in the low mileage Renegade Limited on a gold Dodge Hornet R/T for the trade +$5.5k (out the door) with the Colorado point of sale tax credit (and just over half off of MSRP when you minus taxes and fees) . Even if this ends up being unreliable, its still a great deal. We were going to lease it but did the math and it made more sense to purchase with the current incentive and dealer discount. If we decide to keep it past the factory warranty, we can always buy an extended warranty. The car drives great and no problems yet (knock on wood). I can understand why no one would want to spend $42k+ for the Hornet, but at the current discounts available here it really is a bargain (if reliability isn't a major concern for the buyer). It is too bad that this vehicle hasn't caught on even at these prices, as I've only seen a handful on the roads. It may have made more sense to sell it as a Chrysler than a Dodge (or maybe not), but the Hornet badging really stands out in a car market full of bland CUVs. I have a thing for weird cars, off the beaten path, so this thing is right up my alley, even with all of its quirks, and I know pretty well what I am getting myself into.
I can definitely see the Hornet eating the Tonale marketshare completely... not enough of a difference between the two except to those who care about the Alfa brand. Personally as an Alfa driver I hope they come out with something else to branch out in the U.S. market than a crossover...
The Alfa also doesn't get Red Leather seats which the Dodge does. The Dodge also benefits form the Gold colour that Alfa developed and recieves more fashionabe and modern colours.
Bravo! Great Video comparison. The challenge with Alfa Romeo is the resale values are not that good. Plus their reliability is also not good especially when compared to a Lexus. I think the Dodge Hornet is going to sell like the previous generation Mazda CX5 and will be very popular. :)
OK...did I miss the MPG? Also can you get REAL tires on this car? I don't like those large rims and small tires because if you hit a pothole it is easy to damage the tire AND the rim and BOTH are very expensive!
1) MPG for the Dodge Hornet with the 2.0 turbo is 21/29 (city/hwy). MPG for the plug-in-hybrid has not been released but all-electric range has been stated to be 30 miles. 2) And yes, real tires can be specced with both cars if you don't want the big rims. The Hornet can be had with 17 inch wheels with 60 section tires (base GT), or can be had with 18 inch wheels with 55 section tires (GT w/ backtop package, GT PLUS w/ backtop package, base R/T). Recommendation: Go with the base GT so you get the most tire! The Tonale can be had with 18 inch wheels with 55 section tires (base Sprint & base TI). Hope that helps
Thanks for all that info & making a video! The Hornet is not much cheaper than the Tonale and I believe we can ultimately get Tonales for even cheaper using the Federal EV tax credit loophole. As I’ve been pricing out cars lately it looks like the phev versions are almost identical in price. Dodge isn’t letting us price the phev like Alfa is yet but from what I found it’ll be at most $1-2k less. This is where the leasing loophole comes in. The feds left a loophole for commercial EVs where all these new regulations don’t apply. When you lease an EV the leasing company will get the full $7,500 credit since it’s a commercial vehicle owned by them that they’re renting to you & it’s up to them to decide to pass it on to you or not. Toyota & other large dealers don’t & I’m doubtful Dodge will either. But Alfa has confirmed it’s eligible & will pass the savings on based on my discussions with my local dealer in CA. So you can get a cheaper lease & ultimately just lease to own a Tonale & with the $7,500 credit it will ultimately be cheaper than buying an at most $2k less Hornet.
Why is this comment loved? The NFT technology is for service people to retain ability to access YOUR vehicles data, it's not some nifty feature. The two cars are based off the JEEP Compass platform...what did you think would happen? They are not priced only 2k USD apart....more like 8-10K apart. The PHEV will not qualify for the entire rebate. Further, Alfa has done this to themselves. They knowingly overpriced their current lineup and that will further alienate potential customers.
My first car, back in 1967, was a 101 series Alfa 1600 Sprint. Many more Alfas followed until, with a Milano, I'd finally had enough. Alfisti will get the name, others might not. I now daily a '16 Mazda MX-5/Miata and am looking hard at 6-speed manual Jaguar F-Types, no more Alfas for me, sad to say. Though some might say that a Jaguar is just looking for trouble and they might be right.
@@velocemidwest I've had a '68 XK-E and an XJS, it might be time for an F-Type before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Has to be a stick shift though, slim pickings on those.
You guys keep missing the point. The Alfa is more upscale than the Dodge. Alfa will be available in Europe, Dodge is pretty much North American as it should be. Alfa has already been downgraded by having some Fiat underpinnings.
I've said it before...and I'll say it again....there was NO Semi-Conductor shortage....it was all artificial for them to "buy time"... The problem is that NONE of the engine options are truly....PERFORMANCE. Nothing....let me repeat that....NOTHING, except something of the order of a 350bhp engine would help them now. And...what's the difference between 35k and 49K? Price disparity.
Never liked the looks of cars with eyelashes, but @9:00 some long eyelashes would work at least from that angle. Maybe even change out the grilles emblem for 2 front teeth.
Someone put a torniquet on Dodge to stop them from bleeding out to Fiat/Stelantis. The actual Dodge line-up is a joke now. What's bad is, they will sell to people having no idea where the GLH & GLHS originated from. The 2.4 Turbo in the Neon/Caliber/PT Cruiser was a monster. If they rolled out a modern "real" CSX meeting today's standard, that would be worth it. For me, you can get an AWD Escape 2.0 T and have more room. You're only about a few tenths slower than the GLHS.
So lets get this straight, the Tonale/Hornet chassis is based on the Compass. Isn't the Compass chassis based on the Fiat 500 XL? That being said, it more than likely has been reworked completly because of Alfa, but that would make that a 8 to 10 year old chassis to begin with? Alfa should be upset with Dodge, higher up is to blame. They just gave this to Dodge, said make it look like a Dodge and here are the trim levels. Since Dodge only had three vehicles(yes three) in it's line up, what were they going to say?
Alfa be focusing on the wrong things, Alfa should have brought back the 4c and make it a 6c, but Maserati beat them to it with the MC 20, but it would have been nice to have another cheap Italian sports car option other than the MC 20.
There is no need to Horn Honk Lock your car. One click of your fob Light Flash ONLY Confirms your vehicle is locked and armed. People click the fob twice out of habit but it is not needed to assure your vehicle is locked and armed. It only creates noise that wakes people from sleep.
IMO you called it correctly - Alfa was raped by Dodge to arrive at the Hornet model. I don't blame Dodge, but I do blame Stellantis, who should know better. As a current Alfa Giulia owner, I'd like to see more dealers and improved parts and service, but that's unlikely to happen when you have only two aging models to sell on your showroom floor.

!! Please lower the background music volume, it interferes with comprehension of your voice. The colors are not the same; you can't get the green in the Hornet. And the Hornet only has the 4 cylinder, 2 liter engine. No hybrid. You can only get the red leather seats in the Hornet GT Plus model which is 37k. The Tonale is 51k with the red leather and nice green, and probably a better stereo. Only the Hornet can be had in the Blue Steele matte color (the only matte color on either car). Stellantis is being greedy and out of their minds if they think customers are this stupid to pay $14k more just to get a nice green exterior, and better gas mileage, but a much less powerful motor. Wealthy people, if they cared about gas mileage would get a Lexus Hybrid model. They are doomed with this kind of customer manipulation. Why do these spreadsheet jockeys think that we want to spend $14k more to get a few MPG better, when the 10k more costs us in registration fees, sales tax, and ongoing insurance costs, more than we would ever save on fuel costs?? They should be a lot closer in price.
Alfa making 4 door anything is not the heritage nor niche it should mess with. A 3 door hatchback similar to Veloster maybe lifted a bit but minimal electronics on a plug-in hybrid. Give me gauges and digital panels, no connectivity no computer interactives just what runs the drivetrain efficiently. No touch screen nonsense, nothing that feels like a plastic soda bottle wrapped in vinyl like a disposable Tesla overpriced hackable car. I don't want anything that's hackable no wifi no Bluetooth no links and remote updates. Something minimalist, light with range and good handling on ideal and less than ideal roads. A foot of ground clearance. Stop pretending we want to sit on the ground. Batteries and electric motor can be put low and slightly mid-forward. A 3 cylinder ICE with front wheel drive. Or flip the idea and electric in front. Management system to drive the most ideal blend, and electric only when those inputs say it's best efficiency in efficiency modes. Plug-in hybrid is the future but the ICE needs to be modular so in the event it needs to become ethanol or hydrogen, we don't have to toss the whole car.
The Dodge Hornet is no real Dodge at all, it's nothing more than a useless cheap knockoff of the gorgeous Alfa Tonale. The Hornet would've taken the Charger and Challenger for inspiration instead of stealing the design of the Tonale for itself. What a real shame for Dodge. The Hornet could mean death for Dodge just like the Aztek and Torrent killed off Pontiac two decades back.
I saw the Tonale in Italy last fall, and my local CDJR dealership in Ripon has their first Hornet right now in that grungy ‘Blue Steele’ color… I answered lots of questions they have about it… The Dodge Boys have no idea what this car really is yet… I love Alfa Romeo and adored my ‘18 Stelvio TI Sport lease…but I explained to the salesman that not every Dodge Bro will warm to the Hornet… …and not every CDJR Tech will want to service them…speaking as a former FIAT guy…it’s not exactly an amazing union. Popping the corn to watch this play out…
Alfa mad? LOL I bet. Haha. The Dodge will be the seller, the hit, and the other one will prob do just okay. The Dodge will be the one to get for those who want the thing not to be recalled a week after they get it for something that could have been fixed prior to sale. Yep, they the same but who cares, Dodge will shit on Alfa.
The Hornet proves that Premium doesn't excist anymore. The Alfa Tonale is just a blown-up 2003 Fiat Punto, that can easily be sold for less money than Alfa asks for it. Qualitywise and luxurywise 'budget' brands like Kia and Hyundai have surpassed Alfa in almost every way. Alfa made the wrong choice to want to be 'premium'. Their best sold cars in history were the Alfa Sud and Alfa 33, which were sporty and more posh Fiats, which normal consumers could afford. Noone wants to trade their BMW or Mercedes for a Medieval Alfa. Carfanatics love Alfas for their sportiness, but they don't buy cars.

The Dodge Hornet is assembled in Italy, so actually it is an Italian SUV?
I think they meant to put NFC instead of nft the car is supposed to be able to transmit info without plug in
Thanks for all that info & making a video!
The cheap Hornet PHEV is $72k with financing in Canada. I was third on the list to order one. I old them to keep it
My first car, back in 1967, was a 101 series Alfa 1600 Sprint.
Heh, just bought a V6 XF myself. I'm fully expecting trouble at some point.
Alfa Romeo sales in the United States are horrible....Hopefully the Hornets are a hell of alot better
Your kids will mock u knowing u don drive the original just a copy! Love Dodge good we take care of u...for all
The Alpha defiantly looks better. How much is that worth to you?
It’s Alfa. Not Alpha. Alfa Romeo.
@Philip Columbus yeah, you're right Karen, typos happen.
@@joelbaker2172 Sorry if I offended you. I guess only another Karen would respond as you did. So, I think we are even. 😀
@philipcolumbus3054 who cares , they are both junk...
ROFL I loved this video. Especially when he said... Oh wait, the colors are the same LOL
Never liked the looks of cars with eyelashes, but @9:00 some long eyelashes would work at least from that angle. Maybe even change out the grilles emblem for 2 front teeth.
It became the Toe Nail in the coffin.. 😂
Jeep Renegade is based on the Fiat, not the Compass
@@Greatdome99 If I'm not mistaken, they both are. They reworked the 500L platform to work with AWD for the Compass.
I’m done with Dodge it’s a bad move….
It's like if someone stole your homework. Sure you're in the same class but I'd still be upset if someone else got credit for my hard work.
If you love Fruit Loops cereal then i’m sure you’ll like Fruity Rings. Same concept.
Alfa be focusing on the wrong things, Alfa should have brought back the 4c and make it a 6c, but Maserati beat them to it with the MC 20, but it would have been nice to have another cheap Italian sports car option other than the MC 20.
There is no need to
Horn Honk Lock your car.
One click of your fob
Light Flash ONLY
Confirms your vehicle is locked and armed.
People click the fob twice out of habit but it is not needed to assure your vehicle is locked and armed. It only creates noise that wakes people from sleep.
I personally think in 40 years or so. The dodge hornet will become one of those weird collectible cars, like the GLH.
Maybe as, "the car nobody asked for".
From upper class Rome to EBT Atlanta lol
IMO you called it correctly - Alfa was raped by Dodge to arrive at the Hornet model. I don't blame Dodge, but I do blame Stellantis, who should know better. As a current Alfa Giulia owner, I'd like to see more dealers and improved parts and service, but that's unlikely to happen when you have only two aging models to sell on your showroom floor.
The Tonale is new.
@@joevelte4252 Yes, but in America the same car (Hornet) will be available for some $10k less. Who would pay another $10k for badge value?
@@rlsedition That may depend on where the cars are built. The Tonale is boilt only in the Pomigliano factory in south Italy. I don't know if the Hornet is made in the USA or Mexico or with the Tonale in the same factory.
@@F51361 The Hornet is built in the same factory as the Tonale, which is obvious since the Hornet is a dead nuts copy.
@@rlsedition yes I know but often here in Italy things are not made following logical and obvious methods... Anyway I thought that for the american market the car could be build directly there avoiding transportation.
Too bad as both look good. Problem Alfa fans won’t buy it because of the dodge and huge price difference. Dodge fan won’t buy it as doesn’t have a Hemi
Gang…….that’s the same design 😭😭😭😭
Screw Dodge. That's my opinion now. Dodge spits out MOSTLY crap, every one of Alfa's cars are great.
Plug-in hybrid is the future but the ICE needs to be modular so in the event it needs to become ethanol or hydrogen, we don't have to toss the whole car.
...nor Asia i believe
The Dodge Hornet is no real Dodge at all, it's nothing more than a useless cheap knockoff of the gorgeous Alfa Tonale. The Hornet would've taken the Charger and Challenger for inspiration instead of stealing the design of the Tonale for itself. What a real shame for Dodge. The Hornet could mean death for Dodge just like the Aztek and Torrent killed off Pontiac two decades back.
The dodge will fail
Why are y’all comparing this to the dodge everybody copied from f one another what else is new the dodge is nice!
At least you're not like that hack DeMuro.
I mean neither is going to sell well so...🤷🏾♂️
I saw the Tonale in Italy last fall, and my local CDJR dealership in Ripon has their first Hornet right now in that grungy ‘Blue Steele’ color…
I answered lots of questions they have about it…
The Dodge Boys have no idea what this car really is yet…
I love Alfa Romeo and adored my ‘18 Stelvio TI Sport lease…but I explained to the salesman that not every Dodge Bro will warm to the Hornet…
…and not every CDJR Tech will want to service them…speaking as a former FIAT guy…it’s not exactly an amazing union.
It's the same car! They are both turds....
has the basis for a good video, but way too much snark…
Aren’t both these models built in Mexico?
Italy
Funny how dodge cant design there own vehicle anymore 🙄
They're not allowed to.
Dodge is not sold in Europe
Fiat own dodge buy the USA dodge company.

BTW what the f does a Hudson hornet have to do with these current vehicles?
My thoughts exactly. The video should've focused on the Hornet's features and driving behavior and mentioned the Tonale in passing.
You both completely missed the point of the video.
@@MaNA_tW Not according to Paul, Luke, Mark, and John.
Dodge > Alfa Romeo
It's the same car , both made on the same line in Italy! So how will the Dodge be better? Oh please do explain.
FYI, they are both turds...
