I love to volunteer and tend to be a “yes” when asked. I volunteered 16 years ago to temporarily visit a shut in from our church. I still enjoy our weekly visits! Im also a downtown ambassador for city on the first Friday of each month. In addition I serve on the Think Pink committee for our 10 day Cherry Blossom festival. My final commitment is to be the education chair for Keep Macon Bibb Beautiful. Smaller volunteer opportunities include a lector for our church, a committee chair for the garden club, etc etc etc! I hope the next generation will embrace volunteerism the way we have!

Hello Pat , I volunteer locally in the UK for a national charity helping elderly people . I have been visiting housebound people once a fortnight just for a chat etc for about 20 years . The lady I visit now has just had her 97th birthday ! . Through this organisation during lockdown I started doing supermarket shopping for vulnerable people .. I am still shopping now once a week for another lady who has sight and mobility issues. I so enjoy your videos and chats .

I'm 71 and don't volunteer now. But several years ago, around the time of my husband's death I volunteered in an energy assistance program helping with paperwork and also in a foodbank, also in the paperwork, signing people through, etc. It was amusing to me in the fact of my duties. I sat at a long table between two much older ladies and was told that was where I must stay. I found out later it was because the older ladies didn't get along at all. So, I sat in between them to keep the peace. Luckily, they both liked me. It was very rewarding work. Also, I lost my grandson in Hospice 5 years ago. He was 24. He had a quilt from me on his bed. Just a few days before losing him he asked me if I would like to make quilts for Hospice. Bless his heart. It kept my sanity getting busy on them. We lost my first Great Grand baby at the same time at just 5 weeks. I make quilts of comfort in their memory wherever I find a need.

Good morning! I had worked in a local hospital and made friends in different departments; when I retired, I volunteered in the infusion room of the Cancer Center. I baked and handed out cookies, got warm blankets, beverages and snacks for the patients, chatted with patients, and restocked the supplies for the nurses. It was wonderfully fulfilling! I had to leave when I became the caregiver for a family member stricken with cancer.

My volunteering happens in cycles. It starts with my "balloon hand" disease. Someone asks for a volunteer and my hand goes up! Eventually I find myself over committed and in burn out mode (where I'm currently feeling) and I finish my term or project and sit on my hands to keep them from going up. At the moment I'm making quilts for donations and random gifts and chair for the church craft fair in the Fall.

Hi all, enjoyed reading down through the whole list of volunteerism and the largest is definitely related to quilting. Mine is no different. Since I started quilting, making quilts has been my first love. All other crafts gradually went out the window. So in my guild, I volunteered by managing the quilt closet and setting up sew days for the charity we supported with quilts. (Women's Shelter in our city) Then later, it was through Project Linus I assisted the coordinator by doing the same thing. Maintaining the fabrics in support of our Bees, making kits, 'fixing" donated items that were not sized properly or other. Set up the room for the Bees. That kept me very busy. Now I am only making quilts for Quilts of Valor and Project Linus. Mobility issues have curtailed what I can do. But I can still push the pedal on sewing machines!!

Every Wednesday I volunteer at a church’s clothes closet, with 7-9 of my retired neighbors/friends. We sort and restock clothing after the public comes in for free clothing Monday and Tuesday. After last week’s southwest Michigan tornadoes, the Closet had a request for clothing so it was ‘all hands in deck’. The Closet delivered bags of clothing for mobile home park that was hard hit. The Pastor was pleased to see the outpouring of help he saw, as he delivered them. Many semis from neighboring communities and southern states.

    Volunteering🎉
In the late 90’s for 2 years I volunteered at a local quilt shop to teach a children’s sewing class! It was sew much fun. A local grade school councilor reached out and sent some 5 grade girls along with some funding from a school grant. We went on sewing field trips. I did a full meal deal lol we shopped for fabric, made aprons. We learned to cook spaghetti dinner, set a table & serve the meal wearing our aprons. We made invitations, each got to invite 2 guests . We did a show & tell of their sewn projects which included shorts, Pj’s, hats, pot holders, etc… all their aprons and then the served meal. All this was learned/done over 8-9 months of meeting once a week. For me the real reward was that the once out cast girls started making hat and hair crunchies for classmates and became excepted by their piers. And present day.. I’m on fb with a few of those students and they still sew 😀

Love Pat's Tulip Quilt! I love tulips in the garden, but once the deer invaded suburbia in Maryland, they destroyed my tulips. I planted 12 different varieties of daffodils that deer don't eat. I layer the daffodils in my garden and they bloom over 6 weeks. For a while, I was able to tuck some tulips in between the daffodils, but the deer found them too. My neighbors think I have specialized daffodils that bloom for a long period. After the daffodils bloom, my peonies start blooming--another plant deer don't like and I love peonies! For volunteering, I have been making mission quilts for Lutheran World Relief for 26 years at my church. Currently, my group makes about 200 quilts per year. Recently, I started making quilts for another group, Operation Kid Comfort through the Military WMCA, which gives the quilts to children of deployed military.

Volunteering: Since 2015, I volunteer with a nonprofit, Sar Shalom Israel, that provides humanitarian aid to Israel. I make lap quilts for Holocaust survivors; baby quilts for a pro-life organization; and incubator covers. Two other ladies work with me on Tuesdays. They make medical dolls of muslin in which a surgeon can draw the surgery for a child.

Your Tulip quilt is so cute, and once again Cindy's quilting is awesome! I also get bored sewing the same thing over and over. Maybe that's why my Hello Birdie blocks are still waiting to be sewn together--you know the one you did a sew along back in June 2022. *sigh* The Halloween panel is really cute! Speaking of panels, my youngest daughter put Cyndi McChesney's Playful Panel Quilts book in my Mother's Day package yesterday! It's an awesome book!
Thank you, Pat and Lynn, for providing more to the story of the Eagle quilt. They're both so pretty, but the original--WOW--love how the maker made the sides and bottom drop so that the corners wouldn't bunch up. I've never seen that done before. I can just imagine it on a bed.

I received 623 quilt "tops" and I have volunteered the quilting, also the backing and batting for them. I do custom quilting for backing or batting to help out. The quilts have been going to the displaced fire families here in Oregon. I also have quilted for the Fallon Soldiers. And small quilts for people who are passing at a local hospital and the families keep them, the last 2 were so sad for me I stopped. I lost the first trip up the Mountain videos and pictures of the quilts phone crashed and SD card corrupted. So now I have been putting pictures and videos on TH-cam in case this phone crashes. Love your videos ❤

Would be great to be able to purchase a single pattern either paper or .pdf of the quilts you show. Love the tulip quilt. Also want to say thank you for taking time to release daily videos. Since retiring last year, I wake up to you and a hot cup of coffee. It is such a great way to start my day. ❤

Hi, Pat! I adore volunteering. Feeling helpful and productive is my jam, and more so since my son started university and we sold our company. I volunteer at my son's former school as a flute tutor to the beginning and marching band middle and high schoolers, as well as at local running races. (A runner myself, I'm not always up for racing, but enjoy helping to direct, facilitate and cheer.) They are all charity events, so it makes it even more worth my while. I am currently recovering from surgery, but when I can play flute again (it'll be a while yet before I can lift my arms properly), and with the encouragement of the clinic's social worker, I plan to volunteer at the cancer center, to bring a little music and a smile to people there. Being a liturgical flutist (my other volunteer gig, 14 years now) whose music director often makes last minute changes, I'm fairly good at playing requests on the fly. 😉
Tulips! I adore them, but do wish they lasted longer! They are the first colors around my post box in late winter/early spring (we are near C'ville, VA, in the foothills), fancy, lacy tulips in every candy color you can imagine: instant cheer every time I walk to the box. I can't remember where I had purchased that bag (thus, no clue which variety they are), but I planted them when we moved here 15 years ago, so they've had a while to mature and spread a bit. One of these days, I'll get around to planting more along the driveway. But it's 1/4 mile long, so...might take a while longer. LOL!
As for having tulips in my quilts... I've been making quilts since I was 10 and my granny taught me to sew on her old Singer treadle, and yet I have yet to make a tulip quilt. It's definitely time to fix that! Thanks for the book link and another terrific installment! 💜
