The Hexcavators are the new guys in town! Move over Order of No Quarter! Shovel Knight Must take on four new knights alongside 2 knights from previous Shovel Knight Games. How will the new knights impact the Shovel Knight fandom? Spore Knight is definitely plushie material. Make sure to stick all the way to the end to see the secret boss!
NOTE: This is not meant to be a No Damage run. I wanted to enjoy the game and the lost boss takes an hour to get to. I'm not ready to do that kind of run right now mentally or physically.

So, you are basically the ONLY person who gets the Secret Ending, and not only did you not show the final boss in the thumbnail, but you didn't even show Tinker or Mole either! You, good sir, deserve respect.

Here's the thing though. Even if Tinker and Mole are in the trailer, there are some who avoid trailers to have as little information as possible. So, to some, these two being in the game was probably a huge and welcome surprise.

That was cool to see. I was surprised he was a "water type" this game. Maybe he'll take another element in the next installment

Given how things go in Specter of Torment, it seems his major thing isn't specifically digging, but the general facet of "Going deep down"
Fun fact: in the king of cards ending at specter knight section, tinker knight and mole knight are already recruited

I’m glad I saw this here and not later cause finding out this game is a prequel SUCKS! Love the Shovel Knight stories, but if I had gone through all that to see that what I was playing was leading to Shield Knight’s horrible fate I’d kick myself. I was like “why doesn’t Shovel Knight recognize Tinker and Mole Knight?” and “why is Mole Knight aquatic?” but seeing that Dig is a prequel it makes sense…except for Mole Knight why is he aquatic?

@@LisaVGG Dude, if the normal ending of the game was True, then all the events shown in the Treasure Trove series of games simply would not have happened. I am very glad that we were shown how the whole series of games began. I like it!

I think it's sweet that Shovel Knight really cares about this item that lets him and Shield Knight go back to the area where they first met.
Seeing that ending for the first time made my heart swell with happiness.

I beat the game and got the normal ending, and I was shocked by how conclusive it felt
I was curious, so I checked up and found out that the way to get the "true" ending was SUPER convoluted
I was thinking to myself "Ok, it must be worth it?" but all it did was confirm my suspicions of the game beng a prequel... as if the normal credits scene didn't confirm that already.
And tbh, I think I prefer the "normal" ending. Unlike most fake endings in roguelikes, it's not a _bad_ ending, moreso a "good ending in an alternate universe where the rest of the series didn't happen"... mean, the rest of the Shovel Knight games are swell too, just... knowing what happened here, kinda feels like it's out fault lmao
Yea i feel ya. Almost feels like we doomed a lot of characters. It would be nice if the amulet was long lost and no one knew how to access it. To be fair though they found the last part by accident. Shovel and Drill Knight were not looking for that amulet.
ok but having now seen both endings, i feel like the ‘true’ ending being the prequel to disaster works well with what the game is telling you. if you just stop after getting the normal ending, go on with your day, you don’t awaken anything and the world is ok.
but you didn’t do that, you were compelled to keep digging, the promise of more riches makes you, the player, much like drill knight, in search of a greater treasure. i like that the disaster is caused in it’s own way by the player wanting to dig more. listening to that compulsion to do more than just get shovel knight’s own treasure back. it’s so convoluted, you can’t get it by accident, you have to try super hard, many multiples of times, go through hell, all because there’s some inkling theres more to see, more to be unearthed. but if you stopped digging the world would be ok.
i don’t think the game is punishing you for looking or anything, the future is set in stone this being a prequel, but the choice to make the game a rogue-like is genius with this very difficult to get true ending being the true start of the end. you have to try to get it, to dig deeper, to be tempted.
in that light i love the way they’ve handled the ending

No point in digging if it doesn't run deep. Considering how Shovel Knight also canonically disrespects his opponents and scums his way through fights he can't win normally according to Plague of Shadows Explodatorium, I would say that it's fair evaluation of the character in general, even if he was _very_ desperate to get Shield Knight back.
honestly rip the rat and mage who fell off the drill during the escape. i half expected enemies to keep clinging on until they basically were pulling out the entire dungeon

That's funny cause, from various dialogue in previous games, Tinker did joined the Order of No-quarter without knowing it was evil, and even hoping it wasnt
It kinda go in contradiction with the fact that, in this prequel, he actually assist to the Evil powers of the enchantress before
@@mylesmichel9108 But this is before even the events of King of Cards. As you can plainly see, Shield Knight has not yet been turned into the Enchantress. And, as such, she is still tagging along with Shovel Knight. And, as I recall from the events of Specter of Torment, Tinker Knight was recruited by Specter Knight into the Order.
So... This game really is a prequel to the first game. Hinted by the Mole's and Tinker's Knights endings...

I have to admit that I liked the true ending a lot, I felt like I watched Shovel Knight The Movie after I got that ending.
I really like the true ending knowing what the outcome is. Sure some people lose real bad (specter knight) but most things work out in the end

@@GodlightTheTranscended7745 but the story line here makes more sense to be a prequel it shows the birth of mole knight tinker knights mech and how the tower of fate came to be and why shovel knight and shield knight were doing there in that one memory scene in shovel knight specters of torment

Yes! DIG explains a lot of what happened before Shield Knight was taken over by enchantress. You also see how mole knight got his transformation. Even conversations suggest that Shovel Knight is meeting these guys for the first time

Hold on! That amulet... Isn't that what turned Shield Knight into The Enchantress in the first place? After she fought Donovan, which ultimately led to the creation of Specter Knight?

@@MegaYoYo I was able to draw conclusions after playing a few of the Shovel Knight games myself. We know that, shortly after King Knight had become ruler of Pridemoor Keep from the Enchantress, Specter Knight had to pay him one last visit to recruit him into the Order of No Quarter. And, in Specter of Torment, Black Knight recognizes Specter Knight as Donovan through the way he fought. And, from Specter Knight's memories, we know Luan is Black Knight. And in the ending scene for Specter of Torment, Specter Knight reminisces about the locket Black Knight tossed to him over the campfire back when they still knew each other. And, in that same scene, it is revealed that Luan, the Black Knight, is potentially Reize's father. While Plague of Shadows is pretty much just Shovel of Hope seen from Plague Knight's view, it reveals how Chester got his hands on those relics. And last, but not least, during the Liquid Samaurai's adventure in Showdown, it is revealed that all the Liquid Samurai learned of Plague Knight's scheme, since when one of them learns something, they all do.

Truth be told, this game feels more like a Prequel than a Sequel. Like Shovel didn't even know Tinker or Mole. And Mole's Transformation into his Fire Form felt like it was his first time having it.

Ironically the worst ending, since this leads to Shield Knight being possessed, and King Knight being manipulated, and Specter Knight losing his life.
The normal ending is the better one lol, it's not like Drill Knight can do anything after it and go down there himself, he clearly didn't know that the amulet was even deeper down. And Shovel Knight had all the gems anyway.
As for the process to get here...what the fuck?? Why does it have to be such a long process, with parts that can only be done once, to get the FULL CANON ending of a PREQUEL?
Frankly it would have been much better if the true final area and boss just took place after Drill Knight was beaten, I think that would have been better.
I love this game, despite the things that hold it back, but I can't help but call that out.
Yea I had that inkling of a thought myself. Drill Knight is just a big doofus with a team and eye for treasure, not taking over a kingdom. The true ending, while satisfying, makes me feel like I just set up a bunch of people for disaster. I do have solace in the fact that most of those paths end up turning out fine. The one person who gets real shafted is Specter Knight. That poor guy lost everything

@@MegaYoYo Yeah Donovan really loses a lot, and who knows if King Knight's family is gonna ever be repaired, thanks to The Enchantress, who you awoken, manipulating him.
Literally all the problems in treasure trove would have been avoided with the normal ending, the whole area that leads down would have been plugged up, and even if Drill Knight went back down there, he wouldn't know that the amulet is just underneath him. WE make him find it, which is why the true ending should have just been the only ending, so there's no avoiding it, now that I know this is the true ending, it frankly just makes me not want to get it lol.
