- The M2 gets back to the basics from BMW. On the outside you will discover Toronto Red pain, 19/20in forged wheels, carbon fiber roof and quad exhaust. On the inside you will be greeted by a leather interior, 14.9in infotainment screen and 12.3in digital gauge cluster. Under the hood is a 3.0L twin-turbo inline-6 mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Is the 2024 BMW M2 6-speed manual a BETTER sports car than a Mustang Dark Horse?

That thing looks muscular and tough! Love the front end treatment.
It’s mean and lean
Right!? My late father would say it had a hairy chest. Not girly looking. Like a 68 Charger.
M2 already beat the dark horse in the 1/4. by 2 car lengths. Check out Hagerty.
@@williamclarke2020 Reminds me of a 1973 Firebird front end.

That’s what she said 😂
I chose the M2 over the Mustang. I miss the V8 sound, but everything else regarding the M2 is light-years better. Yes, I do love the quirky looks of the car. I just came out of an S550 Mustang, so I like Mustangs
This was my dilemma. I had an order for a G87 M2 before it came out. Dealer promised no markup, then said 10K when it was time to secure the build slot. I declined and went mustang. No regrets on the choice, but i do still like the m2!
If I did have the money, I'd definitely take this over the dark horse. As much as I'm a fan of mustangs and their V8s, I'm disappointed that the S650 is basically a carry over chassis and now weighs 4000lbs.
Thanks for your honest opinion
M2 is pretty heavy, but it is lighter and has a shorter wheelbase.
The M2 is only 64lbs lighter than the Dark Horse.
Dark Horse - 3879 lbs
M2 - 3814 lbs
@@mistamaog Vehicles have not gotten lighter, have they? That's why I favour the smaller sports cars like the Miata, Honda S2000 and 4 cylinder Porsche Boxster. I find it more entertaining to row my own and seek to use it's powerplant. I had a brand new 2000 Honda Civic SI. That was fun.

Love this car. My favorite current BMW.
That’s so awesome to hear!
@@RaitisRides But I'd definitely take the Dark Horse if I had the choice and unlimited funds 😁
@@lj5190I know how you feel!
I’ve seen quite a bit of hate for both of them, I personally love them both. I would definitely go with the dark horse though
Great input
I'll definitely want to move out of my parent's house when am 50. Wanna scoop all the benefits😅. What a great car indeed.
You are awesome! Thanks for letting me share it with you
Might as well stay and take care of them when they need you the most. Lol. Sorry ma - with this m2 I picked up some chicks and need ma own place if you catch my drift !
BMW sure does knock it out of the park when it comes to unique colors.
This is so very true
Not sure this color choice is better in the dark, I 😮not liking
You had me at 6 speed! And in my favourite colour, orange. I'll take one of these and a Porsche Boxster 718 GTS in orange too! I love the high performance cars in a smaller form.
Great selection and review, Mr Raiti...as usual!
Cheers
I appreciate you letting me share it with you
8:24 Nice Exhaust Gurgling and Cracked
It even shocked me!
A killer exhaust note is one key thing missing on performance BEV’s.
I have a lot of respect for Ford’s Mustang. It’s been around for a long time but they still keep they still keep bringing it on and what’s not to love about a V8 with manual shift. For me though it’s the M2. It just has the edge and checks more boxes for me.
Maybe take Steven to the track with both cars and do a comparison with handling and performance. Lori could film it. Maybe something similar could be set up in the near future as a special treat for Raiti fans. Compare how two cars perform on the same segment of the track in time trial fashion. Just a thought and some creative input that is easier said than done, but would be awesome.
Oh man! I like the way you think! Now you have my gears turning!
I have a DarkHorse but I have mad respect for this model BMW
I have g87 m2 but was thinking about dark horse 😂
@@nickshotgun3760you guys should trade for a weekend 😂

Just traded in my f82 M4 for an LCI 6 speed M2 - get it in mid December. Can't wait!! These review has made me even more excited Raiti
Two years ago, I hade an F87 M2 with a stick. Got it pre-owned from BMW.
Great car! Never gave me a day of trouble.
It's not nearly on the level of my Z06, but still plenty of fun, and much more practical.
You can daily this, no problem. Highly recommended
That is so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing that personal experience
C8 Z?
I daily a f87 m2 comp it’s an amazing car
Been waiting for this ! Very nice ! I'd like to see just a bit more of a spoiler on the back. Thanks Joe !! Great review as always 🤙🏼
Good call on the rear spoiler
Thanks Joe!! I think I made the right decision. I do really love my M2! Still running her in, can't wait to go ON THROTTLE!!
You definitely made the right choice!
This is ahh very f’ing nice looking. I love the m3 and the grills, this m2 looks just as good
I am glad that you are liking this one
Bad ass car! Great review Joe!
Thanks brother
I had a 2019 Mustang GT PP1. I loved every minute of it. That sound. The IDGAF attitude it imparts, is unique.
I know how you feel!
Another great video. BMW M2 reminds of my old 1990s Maserati Shamal and the original 2-door M3, this is more like the tradition 'Ultimate driving machines'.
Oh wow! That is so cool!
BMW is the best! Although they quit making the sport wagon In 2018-19, I think I used her to carry my expensive Italian carbon bike to spots to go cycling throughout Southern California. She looks brand new because I take care of her. I've been driving the Sport Wagon, 6-cylinder 23 years, and I love it. My 3rd wagon and it's so fun sport-shifting the auto!
Before I saw your C7 video I told myself when the 2025 m2 comes out I'll go for that but seeing that Vette made me want to look for a c7 zo6
To me, the M2 looks great and much better than the DH and it's faster. My take is if you want the manual, it's a tough choice between the M2 and DH because Tremec is better but if you want the auto, the M2 is much better overall.
What a gem. Larry nailed it with this one. Thank you!
This car seems to be a joy to drive.
Oh trust me, it is.
My dream car ❤
Gotta dream big
This is my dream car since it came out can’t wait to get my hands on one of these 🤩
“On throttle”. Glad you had some fun. This packs a lot in a small package. I still love my good old V8.
Instant Classic ❤
I think you are so right
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
Thanks as always my friend!
Thanks again for another video joe raiti from raitis rides to answer your question, yes the m2 is better than a dark horse
Thanks for your vote
The new M2 really grew on me. I saw it in person and it looked pretty exotic and tunerish. Honestly better then the rest of the current M lineup. I wish the M3/M4 didnt have those massive snortholes on the front.
This is the best looking front designed bmw since the e36. Seen it at the dealer when I got some work done on my current bmw and immediately fell in love. They really made a signature look with this one. Agreed about the m3 as well. It's terrible. So sad.
i love the review joe

I remember when you first showed that light blue M2. I wasn't too crazy about it but this is a horse of different color. I love it! I can't help but think the fit and finish is a little better than the Mustang. By the way, potato cakes are back at Arby's! Plus you can wash it all down with a jamocha shake!
Great review as always! I like most things about the car with the exception of the screens. I'm more of a conventional gauge cluster guy.
Size takes me back to the old 2002 which was a fantastic car
I auto crossed an M2 at the BMW Track Days last May at Road America in Wisconsin. I own the baby brother 230i xdrive, which is still a lot of fun.
Same! It was a blast to drive.
Great review, great car! A REAL sports car with NO sunroof!!! Love it
I had this car for a week. Very practical daily all things considered. It checked off all the boxes. Only thing, i know the maintenance is going to be expensive down the road.
That will me for many cars down the road!
Love the car, but would never buy one with those screens 😢
I know how you feel
Any modern car has them....Evora?
Same
The 2 series used to be petite. Not so much anymore at 3700+ lbs, but I still like it.
the M2 6spd is a beautiful car - it has that real & classic BMW design as opposed to all the other funky stuff they're building, my favorite current BMW model & the fact it's a manual makes even more disable - that babe has got to be fun to drive. thanks for posting this awesome review. tony macaroni
I own a handling pack Dark Horse with a six speed and I rented a 6 speed M2 on turo and i think the M2 is better in every way except sound. Dark Horse is still an amazing car! That being said i have an order in for 2025 Twilight Purple M2 now.
Love it! If only we had the money to own them all. Thanks so much Joe!
In the uk the M2 is £70k, Same as the Dark Horse. Personally i think the new mustang is more of a facelift s550. Dont forget ours has reduced HP too. After test driving the M2 i put an order in for January delivery. Its a great car and thats coming from owning 2 mustangs in the past.
Oh wow Edward that is serious!
Nice ultimate driving machine Joe
Something about Joe behind a BMW steering wheel just makes you wanna go out and buy one. You do those cars justice man.
i always thought the M2 as a less agressive m3 and i never really liked the way it looked, almost like a mario cart, but this generation of M2 really changed my mind about it
Same here bro it use to be a smushed together m3 now it is its own unique M car.
thank you for this review as a 2021 wrx sti owner Im thinking of Upping it to this little monster
It is a serious machine for sure
I have the M240i with a Stage 1 and it is a blast to drive ❤
Oh I bet it is!
Great review. My son has the S650. I tell him everyday, imo, the 5.0 Mustangs are the best sounding American cars. I love listening to the V8 Coyote. BUT, I ordered a 2025 M2 and will be eating my son’s S650 for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Your facial expressions are classic when driving the M2. The silky smooth inline 6 looks amazing to drive.
lol love the look!
You have great taste
I don’t love it but it has grown on me lately. Y love the fenders and the color options

@@RaitisRides Welcome
In my youth my first car, a 70 RS/SS Camaro, was first built on a High School budget to be a daily driver that could drag race on the weekends. Later, I rebuilt the car on a similar budget for autocrossing and track days on road tracks. Later the suspension was upgraded even further. The challenge with my Camaro, and many other performance cars, is they are really good at one thing but they are not good at many things. Also, the more performance you put into a car the harder and less enjoyable they become to drive. In 2014, I was able to locate and purchase a used 2011 M1 which is very similar to the car featured in this video. This type of car is simply the "do it all" type of car. You can drive it like a Camry, be a little zippy on your day to day, or really dig in on the track. At the 70K price point you are getting a lot of car (or types of cars) for the money. Definitely not chump change for a car but still 20-30K less than what one would have to pay for this level of performance. Will be curious to see the retention value for the M2 in a few years. Retention value really offset the cost of ownership over time. My M1 is selling for much more than I paid. If you are tempted and able to purchase the M2, either new or used in a few years, I would predict you will not regret it. I am never selling my M1 no matter how many times BMW contacts me trying to exchange it for a M2.
Those were the. days
Excellent assessment. The M2 really brings BMW back to its roots.
The epitome of "The Ultimate Driving Machine".
And from the looks of the video you were truly having fun and didn't want to get out of that M2!😅
Price wise, might as well go with the BMW, even though the Mustang is bigger. Sometimes less is more.
Did the M2 have any rev hang when you were shifting between the gears?
Thanks for bringing this inline-6 powered beast Joe! You asked, I went Dark Horse, although I did a track day @Road America with the M2 & loved it. Joe, what do you think, imo, you can’t go wrong here they are both AMAZING machines! My two cents: if you are doing autocross/track days take the M2, if you want more of a touring back country experience take the Dark Horse, either way you will most likely be grinning!
I think you hit the nail right on the head!
Great car. Amazing video!
I like it but my dream is still the 2020 BMW M2 CS
That car is sick!!! Kinda regretting my choice of a 2025 TLX Type S.
You still have a great car!
@@RaitisRides. Thanks man. Definitely not disappointed with the S.
Bruh.....tht car is just as badass.Lol
That squared off bumper actually looks pretty good in that color. I think the Dark Horse would be a better value proposition (yeah, hard to believe) . And the big V8 and tranny on the DH are something special.
Thx Steven, great camera work
Who doesn't love a warm blanket!
I like how brave they are over at BMW. They really don’t care about receiving the hate. Is like they’re trying to say “if you don’t like it then don’t buy it” 😂
Definitely a vehicle worth buying. Not my cup of tea but it's definitely a great option.
You read right into my soul Joe!! Got 3 of those almost 30 year olds to get out of my house!!
OMG! Thanks for letting me share this one with you!
Wonderful cornering Raiti!
those things dyno at 460 at the wheels, its beating a mustang in a straight
Oh wow that is serious!
Yup Hagerty already proved that.
It's at least 500 crank horsepower on any proper dyno!!
Yes of course Joe & I would rather buy this.
That is so great to hear!
yes, next review.
I'm trying to put my hands on the previous Gen M2 or a slightly used M240I. There is almost no difference 0 - 60 and 1/4 between both cars. Even the hood is the same and the big difference being the price. The M240ix is at least $20k less. I just sold my 2012 Infiniti G37xS with mods and custom interior... I was sad to see it go. Last year I put the same tires on the G and I can honestly say that without a doubt they are the best tires I've ever owned. I'm 68 years young and change my cars on a regular basis and can't wait to get a Bimmer. I bought my wife a 2019 BMW X1 and slightly modded it and added 19" Niche wheels on Toyo tires and it is the best vehicle we have ever owned. I recently saw a brand new X6M and was surprised that the rear brakes were so small too. And we all know that BMW is lets say very conservative in the power ratings. Thee cars routinely break all the 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile times. I prefer and by a huge margin Culver's over Arby's. Their custard milkshakes are amazing. Great review Joe. I was on the fence about the new Mustang GT vs The BMW M240i(x) vs Nissan 400Z. My main thing is that the Nissan is so small. The other thing is that there are so many Mustangs in SW Florida a BMW M really stands apart. Do you know if HUD is available or with that large display is it even necessary?
S58 is a vastly superior engine, especially if you want to flash tune
Thanks Joe another awesome review! I am test driving an M2 this weekend - and if that goes well I’ll order the new LCI which has +20hp taking it to near 480 which is crazy on a small sports coupe… I was considering the Dark Horse but here in the UK they have a crazy interest rate of 9.9% compared to just 1.5% for the Mustang Mach-E (guess which one they’re pushing!)… But also I like BMW for build quality and their infotainment systems are consistently brilliant. Thanks again!
Got my '25 coming next month...cannot wait!
You made em!
Heck yeah!
Going to be a classic. Seems to be about the size of an e39.
I love this car
Love the new M2!
They did a great job with this one for sure.
This is the best car you've ever reviewed.
Oh wow! That is a huge statement!
Keep in mind that for 2025, all M2s get the 473 HP six, taken from the M3
In 2024, the manual got a weaker 453 HP version, so it adds the 20 HP it should have
Nicely done! Thanks for the intel
@@RaitisRides But that 473/453 is truly wheel horsepower. In fact, most manual M2’s are 460-470 at the wheels. Same engine as the m3/m4 can’t rate them too close.
Love your channel, Joe! If you were getting a 2025 M2, would you definitely still go with manual even though the auto has that extra 36 lbs of torque?
my young 32 yr old son is finally a grown man.... that got me cracking ty joe
I am so glad to make you laugh
wow what a car
I'm having trouble deciding between a 2024 m240i or going for M2. I don't track at all, But I love the wider fenders, quad exhausts, and the look of the M2. Is it overkill If I'm not tracking it? Is it worth an extra 15K over the m240i?
Got into this, from an F82. It’s a monster. Right on about the size. There’s nothing like it. I‘d compare the Dark Horse to the M4, in everything but price; but even looks wise, they’re kissing cousins.
Would be THE PERFECT CAR with a dipstick and without fake sound.
And a redesigned rear end imo!
And brembo 4 pot in the rear
What is so red about Toronto and why did they name a color after it
Maybe the Maple Leaf?
"YOU MADE EM" XD
The pollen sacs on the rear bumper is quite strange. The previous M2 CS was about perfect. Why on earth depart from it completely??
Yes
FL5 Type R or M2 ??? Which one you taking ???
I am going M2
I’m seeing these engine “shutters” on the front grille all over now. I get that it’s makes the engine marginally more efficient, but I see the actuators failing due to extended exposure to heat when the car is parked or just getting “hung up” on road debris. Just another part to be fixed for $2000 after 30,000 miles.
Very good point
The M2 doesn’t have the shutters well at least my UK spec doesnt. The G42 2 series does though
Toronto Red ✨🇨🇦✨
You nailed it Trevor.l
I had a chance to drive a 2023 manual M2 and wow, what a car. I am disappointed it's the last year for the manual though. What the heck, BMW?!? I'm not crazy about the color on this M2. It appears to be an orange-based red, not a red red (if that makes sense--like a Guards Red or GM's Torch Red). Come on, BMW, amber turn signals out back, please. Great review as always!!
Thanks for sharing that great experienece!
Joe doing some low key reckless driving in this review - love it .
The best looking new bmw
I agree with you!
So Toronto Red is the samething as American Halloween Orange?? Mind blown 🤯
It is kind of weird!
It’s an orangish red as you can see with my M3.
No question, all day long the M2
Thanks for your vote!
This car looks a little weird from factory but a nice set of wheels and a nice stance is all it needs, looks killer once it’s all setup properly
this is so very true!
M2’s actually make their advertised crank HP to the wheels. Unlike the DH which only makes about 420 HP to the wheels.
I was seriously shopping a DH but only found one dealer out of 10 willing to do MSRP. $65,200 for 2025.
For $1500 more I have contacted 4 BMW dealers who are willing to do MSRP right now for a 2025 which gets an interior update and 20 more HP. $66,700 msrp.
Also the base DH comes in clothe seats! Ridiculous.
