  • How To Find Your Audience As An Artist./ Finding and getting in front of your target audience as an artist or creative is one of the most common topics I get asked about. This is the only video I have watched that breaks down determining the ideal art collector. So helpful. Thank you.

What I've learned from watching this video today is that you really got do your homework. And the more specific I am about who my target audience is the better my chances are in reaching my potential clients.
Thank you Sophie for your very wise and helpful advice. From Kingsville, Ohio 🎉 😀 ❤

Yes exactly! This might seem tedious at first but SO worth it when it comes to marketing…😉😉

Thanks for approving my request to join your Facebook group. And thanks for helping us get clear on who we are marketing to. This video helped me get some new ideas and also helped me know that I'm on the right track.

Hi Sophie, as artists, we quite often do different types of work with potentially different target audiences. For example, I'm very into illustration and picture books and I can see quite clearly who my target audience might be. But I also paint and do other kind of work that falls into a completely different kind of niche (not sure which as of yet!). So, would you suggest maybe profiling more than one ideal customer and customizing marketing depending on the work (eg. insta for somethings and pinterest for others)? I always find it so limiting to think of niches as I know I'm not that kind of artist/person as many others aren't. Thanks for your videos btw :)

Hello - Thank you for your great question! Yes, of course we often have several 'target segments' within the whole of our target audience (too much to go into here); so you would absolutely create seperate profiles and create different messages for those audience sectors. You'll choose the marketing according to where each one hangs out...I totally understand the reluctance of niching, however it 100% makes your marketing easier and you'll likely have more sales too...we talk a lot about this in our Art Business Academy membership, as it comes up so often!! Hope that helps. Sophie x

This was sooo helpfull, I have been trying to figure out this for a very long time but I had a really hard time applying this concept of " ideal costumer" to my art. This was extremely clarifying and I feel I finally got it right. Thank you so much!

Thanks for such great content. I have sold quite a lot of my artwork over the years locally and had no luck at all selling it on my website. Over the past few months I have now been adding my artwork onto my handmade earrings and so changed my website to only niche down on earrings. Should I start a new website that is only art related or join it all as one? I have such a range of target audience I still struggle to know about them other than women, 25 to 55 years, working, mothers, most who purchased from me bought my art in café s, restaurants through a third party and I have no idea who they were. I still haven’t grasped the concept of who to target.

Hi Tracy, Thank you for your lovely message. Your earrings look lovely, what a great job! Are these selling ok online? Yes, you'd likely have a different target market, or at least market sector for the original art. As you can choose who you want that buyer to be, I would start there... Out of interest do you have your business plan sorted? As I feel this would iron out all your questions around products, positioning and audience...I hope that helps? x

I downloaded the worksheet but frankly couldn't do it. I let go and let my imagination work but even that didn't help. And I feel even if I knew my target audience....well, then what? There seems to be an idea that identifying your customers is the thing to get you selling, but I'm falling at this first hurdle. Is there any way to understand my block?
