    Those machines are 100 times better than the garbage we are forced to buy today!! I'm glad I kept mine clean, it's an old troybuilt 2036 20Hp 36" bite and also has a 16" auger, thing is a beast.

      These things used are going to go through the roof. Lowe's and home Depot are dropping gas appliances. But battery powered snowblowers is just a dumb and expensive endeavor. But the lack of orders from them are going to cause the manufacturers to stop making them. They will be worth their weight in gold.

    • @Hjerte_Verke
      @Hjerte_Verke 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Married couples, both with jobs, and there's just no time left to tinker and fix things. It's an old machine and most people don't have the mechanical aptitude to fix things so they think it's time for a new one. I will say it twice, there's less free time--most people want to relax and watch a movie, not deal with other frustrations.

    I just realized that I am sitting here in rapt attention, watching Mustie revive yet another snowblower-- a piece of equipment that I will never need here on the AL/GA border! Just goes to show you just how good he is at this combination of education and entertainment... really, every other "will this small engine equipment run again?" TH-camr would do well to watch and learn how it is supposed to be done! Thanks, Mustie, for doing it right!

      I sometimes watch James Condon here on youtube for his small engine videos. Mostly generators and such, but he's a little too ermm.. ADHD for me. he uses torque wrenches on almost every nut and bolt. Yeah, I'm not doing that unless it is actually a critical fastener that really needs to be torqued correctly. Most stuff is "tight is tight" for me and use common sense.. like don't go wrenching down on stuff threaded into soft aluminum.. Mustie1 has been my goto guy for many years now. Plus, I love his humor and little stories about his childhood and such. It makes the videos so much more personal. I do miss his dog though.

    • @braxtonnelson5375
      @braxtonnelson5375 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I miss his dog too! I agree with you about James Condon... I watch some of his videos, and his technical knowledge is impressive, but his delivery is a bit dry-- could use a bit of humor. My Dad always told me that I could always tighten a fastener a bit more, but once it is stripped or broken it's too late to loosen it back up! I use a torque wrench on all internal engine parts, but external fasteners get the old "feels about right" torque spec.

    Another great video . As a retired machinist , I could not help myself from turning some bronze bushing for the axle and drill and installing grease zerks . My snowblower tractor's engine has finally failed and I have been keeping an eye out for a replacement . However here near Seattle we rarely get enough snow to use it . Have to apply Pam cooking spray all over snow handling areas with heavy application to the shoot . Our snow is always like wet concrete . This winter I added a plow to my newest tractor , a blade actually works better here . Keep on wrenching .

    Nice! Down here snowblowers are few and far between and in Southern Indiana NO ONE ever gives anything away, lol! I just bought an ancient old snowblower about 3 weeks ago for $60 bucks. An Ariens 10M4 ST424 model made back in 1965 and it's going to be a long restoration, lol. The motor runs fine and the augers work and it throws the snow, but the auger has a broken sheer bolt that can't be driven out with a hammer and punch, or an air hammer for that matter. The gear box seals leak slowly. The gas tank shut-off valve leaks when it's unscrewed and on. I ordered a new valve but the ends were different. Mine screws into the metal tank and the one they sent me looks like it's for a plastic tank as it just pushes in with a grommet on it. I tried combining the two to make one, but still has the same problem of leaking when ya unscrew it to turn it on. The wheels on mine have split rims that are riveted to the axle sleeves with five rivets on each wheel and the "tires" are hard plastic and they are SHOT! Imma have to grind those rivets out, split the rims, take off the plastic tires and find some pneumatic tires and tubes to fit it, drill holes in rims for valve stems and bolt them back together. On the plus side, when I do finally get it restored it should last forever as it's built like a sherman tank with nearly as much steel, LOL!

    In the Houston area of Texas we don't need snowblowers but i still watch because some of it translates to go-karts and mowers. I bought a classic B&S 3.75hp flathead mounted to a 22" Murray for $10. Someone severely parted it out because it was missing coil, fuel tank and carb, governor vain, and wheels and i just got it running and cutting the other day. Awesome content Darren.

    Your explanation of the 2 jets is correct, but I do not like calling the small one the "idle" jet. Too many people think it is ONLY used at idle. A better terminology would be "primary" and "secondary". Both jets should have a small wire run through them BEFORE the ultrasonic cleaner treatment.
    Most (all?) have a primary air bleed AHEAD of the throttle. This is a very tiny hole in the throat. It needs to have a eire run through it to make sure it is open.

    I worked on my briggs snow blower a couple of days ago replacing the o-ring for the fuel shut off valve. I found that the easiest way to get that choke lever off was to put a little bit of WD-40 in the recess of the knob and let it work itself into the release clips. That allows it slip off a bit easier.

    • @Hjerte_Verke

    Valve adjustment on these engines with a compression release is pretty important. Another way to set the exhaust valve is to find top dead center, turn the engine OPPOSITE normal rotation just over 1/4 turn and set the clearance. This keeps the de-compression mechanism from affecting the adjustment. The big nut moves the rocker arm, the allen screw in the rocker arm nut locks the nut. On rider mowers, the 12V electric starter motor needs the decompression system to work because the starter motor is not powerful enough to overcome full engine compression. Valve adjustment will solve 99% of misdiagnosed bad starters or weak batteries.

    Generally on all small engines its
    .004 intake
    .006 exhaust
    Out of the 34 yrs ive been messing with them its the magic # that will make it run, but at least try to find the original spec. I always set them tight to where they hold the feeler gauge set so when you tighten the lock screw they tend to loosen up. Alot of times with the decompression valve whichever valve its on you turn the crank 1/4 turn to move it out of the equation. Also if you have a way to spin the engine backwards that usually will give you the true compression reading as well. For those who are wondering why the exhaust valve has a wider gap its to compensate for the valve heating up and expanding its length. Just some tips that will hopefully help someone out.

    Same here, amazed at the toys he finds along the roadways,
    Must live in a very rich neighborhood,
    Here in west Ky, people just park it out behind the barn or under a shade tree,
    However, I have never seen a snowblower here in west ky,
    Most mowers

    Valve lash adjustment is made by turning the large hex nut fulcrum, and the set screw in the center holds the adjustment.

    I imagine the snow you got was the same consistency as the snow (or better yet: white sludge) that we got 100 miles north. It was like plowing concrete that hadn't set yet. In that case, I'd say it's a damn good snowblower. And the price was right.

    I bought a carb kit for my snowblower that had the carb, abunch of gaskets and s plastic spacer, hose, clamps, fuel shut valve and the starter bulb for $18. Of the jungle website.
    I have been cleaning the original carb about 3 years now and getting the float bowl to seal up can be tough. Just bought the new one this year.

    If you put a thick coat of paint on the auger, impeller and inside the shoot it will throw the snow much further. I usually brush the paint on, spray paint just isn't thick enough. I've kept one going for over 15 years now. In the spring before putting it away I go over it and replace anything that's worn and paint anything that's showing metal. When I use it, it gets 3 hrs use with every storm. Long driveway and big yard.

    You are a great service to the DIY world! So many of us had to learn the hard way, and before youtube, the fixit guys and gals were those people who like to take things apart and see if they could figure it out. This channel give an excellent education to the folks who are interested in getting their feet wet in the fixit world as well as us fixit guys who don't have it all figured out yet - I learned something new today about the cause of that dang surging that so many carburetors get in the habit of. My neighbor's surging Honda mower is about to have a miracle cure this spring with that knowledge (and cement my miracle worker status in the neighborhood!😂 Your experience really gives a wide range of folks a leg up in the battle against planned obsolescence and the disposable economy! Keep up the great work!

    The bolts holding the skids are called Carriage bolts. Hey Mustie, have you ever considered maybe having one of your fans assist you for a day? Second pair of hands, help with the camera etc? Maybe for a small fee? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be honored to wrench with you for a day. (L would love to be the first)

    @Mustie1 The bolts holding on those shoes are Carriage Bolts, square shank with a flange head. Stove Bolts have a tapered square shank and head, which tighten into a recess ending up with the head flush with usually the outside of the 'stove'. 8-)

    This video was perfect timing for me! My Snowblower needed some serious attention. I took it out to take care of the 1 foot of snow that we got here in Northern WV, and it ran and then died within a few seconds.
