Yes, with the Charismatic Voice. I saw the whole video like 6 months ago, just amazing what he can do with his voice, and also that this does not damage his vocal chords! Will is also a very laid back person, not at all like the agressive singing he does.
That was a fun reaction. Thanks Rusty. Will's vocals are just insane, but he is a very cool person, just a big goofball, lol. Black metal, death metal , and deathcore. Some are calling it Blackened Deathcore. The throat camera video on The Charismatic Voice is just under an hour, that's from 2 years ago. The new one where they stick needles in him(The science Behind vocal distortion), is an hour and 10 minutes. You'll probably want to check those out on your own when you have time. As for more Lorna Shore, The Pain Remains trilogy, as others have already suggest is a popular choice. Sun/Eater is another good one.
Thanks, buddy. It was very interesting. It definitely feels more like a black metal track than death deathcore. Hovering over that line, but it's definitely impressive. I'm going to check out those videos. I'm curious to see what is happening with the vocal cords.
Those videos are an absolute must watch. Start with the one from 2 years ago first before you get into the science behind the voice distortion. My nephew and I were watching them and were completely amazed and memorized by what he could do with his voice as well as him not having any damage what so ever. All the doctors call him a unicorn of voice distortion.
Your comments made me crack up. The way I describe this song is that a grizzly bear and mountain lion are fighting to the death, and halfway through, Gollum shows up and gets eaten. And no, absolutely NO effects of any kind on the vocals. Every bit of it is literally just Will doing his thing. He's got a lot of vocal one-takes on his own channel, and has even done covers of songs with clean vocals vs what he does with Lorna Shore, and even his clean voice is spectacular, especially on the heels of something like this when you're completely not expecting it. Check out his cover of Hypnosis by Sleep Token; it's a total 180 from this and it's mind boggling that he's got this kind of vocal range. The video where he gets his throat scoped is crazy; the doctor looking at his vocal cords literally said Will is a unicorn. The things he does with his vocal cords shouldn't even be possible; at some points, he's literally flipping them nearly completely upside down.
Got to disagree. Yes, Will is a great vocalist and can doesn't need any help when it comes to performing live, but to say there is no effects is simply not true. The vocal layering here is the most prominent one, as it's easy to recognise yet especially the layering of highs and lows creates an effect that lets appear his voice much fuller, multidimensional, more unhuman. And that's absolutely fine. Vocal layering is an effect (among others) also used in many horror films especially since the 80's, to create demonic/disturbing/creepy voices. Actually, when this song came out, this was a main reason to hate on Will as the new vocalist, as they said Lorna Shore wouldn't be able to play it live, as it appeared to them too engineered, especially with all this vocal layering. Of course LS soon proofed them wrong and at least since Will's vocal play through of To the hellfire hardly anyone was doubting his abilities any longer.
Will Ramos is an absolute cupcake! He also does clean vocals :) you should check out his Hypnosis cover of his favorite band (and mine too) Sleep Token
There is so much to talk about with this band, they are incredible and if you like the music, I would definitely recommend checking out the '...and I return to nothingness' EP, followed by their latest album, 'Pain Remains' (which ends in the masterpiece of the Pain Remains trilogy). Will Ramos is an absolute beast of a man and has done 2 videos with the Charismatic Voice about the science behind harsh vocals; the first is a laryngoscopy where they put a camera down his throat and he blew the scientists' minds, and the second video is a more comprehensive set of tests that includes them putting needles in his throat and doing a functional MRI to see what is going on while he screams. Both are fascinating and absolutely worth the watch! It is insane to see what he can do, and even more impressive considering he also suffered with asthma when he was younger.
I'm gonna go to bed now and check out these videos. I'm so intrigued by it. I'll check it all out. but master vocalist. I'm not aware of other good female screamers, but he's the male equivalent of Tatiana from Jinjer, though he does seem to have a bit more range.
It's fair to mention that the industry standard is too layer vocals, especially with harsh vocals. The singer might do 3 takes off the same vocal part using different types and pitches of scream, to make the sound fuller and more powerful. Doesn't take away from the immense skill in display. And I use skill on purpose, because nobody is born being able to do this, it takes thousands upon thousands of hours of practice. That goes for the instruments as well.
It's the one and only thing I dislike about Will - how f*cking easy he makes this look.🤘🤘🤘 Incidentally, if you want a real analysis, Will actually breaks down the one-take on his own channel.
Will uses a technique that is mostly based on "fry screams", though he's one who mastered it entirely. The other stuff you know from Tati for example is called "false chord screaming" which is in general a bit louder and needs much more air to sound right. That's why Will looks kinda relaxed there ^^
@@RustySabita Not to advertise another youtuber but a good place to start would probably be some videos from Kardavox Academy. He will walk you through all the basics for that exact style and as soon as you got them down and feel comfortable you can start expanding upon it. Give it a try ^^

Will Ramos names the different types of harsh vocals he can do (pig squeal, goblin, etc). And he's got a nice (clean) singing voice too believe it or not. Lorna Shore - for me personally - is a bit too chaotic to enjoy. My understanding is that singing is more about breath control and mouth shapes then projection - you rely on the mic for that. Those that exhibit a lot of tension in many instances are not singing in a healthy way.
I disagree with Lorna Shore being too chaotic to enjoy. For me, everything flows perfectly.
