      I agree, i like how she tried to school him on something she had no idea about. Drugs stay in your system a set amount of time, depending on how often you do them, how much you do of them on that day(s), person’s metabolism etc all play parts in how long it stays or how much of it is in there. But it will most definitely show + even if the #s may fluctuate. He tried explaining(in more medical terms) but she kept interrupting.

      To be fair, it was stated that the father had a string of negative drug tests and only a couple relapses. I think the father shows promise. In the case of these children, it was stated that their issues would likely leave them stranded in foster care for a very long time and likely not in the same home. I think, since the dad was incarcerated when the children were removed, has completed some services, has had mostly negative drug tests, and has shown some potential for improvement in his parenting skills in just two short visits, that he should be given some extra time. ‘Mom’ should be terminated and have TPO placed on her to keep her away from them.

    It's clear by Mom's behavior in court and her behavior in the process, they need to terminate her rights! She acts like a spoiled toddler, and then add the constant drug use, she clearly has chosen drug use over her children. Although we absolutely need to give parents a chance to get their shit together, we need to stop dragging it out so long when it's clear parents have no intention of doing so. Give these kids a chance to have a successful life before too much damage occurs!

      I think in family court, especially, “giving them enough rope to h*ng themselves” is the best way to go with a pro se/low income/drug-addicted defendant.
      They have to do every single thing they can to reunify, and throwing a mom (on zoom) in jail for contempt is likely to conflict with any ongoing criminal matters.
      I fully agree she would’ve deserved it, but I’d bet money she has an ongoing criminal case and THIS court’s priority is the children, making sure they make a record of all of this so there are no questions about her ability to parent.
      Whether or not they’re doing that efficiently is totally up to personal opinion. The only real victim here is the children.

Eventually you run out of excuses for missing it, and at the point you're just blatantly committing perjury. If you miss them (especially as many tests as had been ordered for her) it pretty much just screams to the court "I'm positive for drugs AND I'm a liar and a sneak". I live in a very rural area where most people don't believe addiction is a sickness and fully believe in the whole "just say no" and "just stop doing drugs" way of thinking. We have VERY few resources for somebody wanting and asking for help. The only thing we have is AA and NA, and 1 group run by a mental health facility and if you go, you're pretty much shunned from the community. I could only dream of receiving just half the resources and help this lady had received when I got clean. Any counseling I did, I had to pay out of pocket. The 1 group therapy we have is full of court ordered people who don't give a shit and were showing up intoxicated and again, I had to pay for it, because I sought treatment on my own and wasn't on any type of court orders. If somebody doesn't want the help, then take it away and give it to somebody who actually does.

She finally gets one (hardly) redeeming remark stating that she showed improved behavior at a meeting and interrupts to say "basically I was high" just completely destroying the one shining light anyone had given her this whole case. The lawyer she wants fired had to trudge through a pile of shit to find that one barely positive comment and she just ruins it immediately.

    When my first born was 4 weeks his dad shook him while i was at my mums house. They obviously took him into foster care while the procedural things happened [in the uk it goes to finding of fact in family court, then the criminal side can take place if necessary] while my son was in foster care i got 3 hours a day 5 days a week contact supervised. Wanna know how many i missed? Not one. I walked for an hour each way to see him and id do it again in a heartbeat. (I got him back hes now 11 and an amazing young man, his "dad" pled guilty on the first day of trial and got a poxy 18 months for almost killing our son and assalting me when he got out on bail after he did that. If hed been found guilty he'd have gotten up to 9 years.)

    This woman reminds me of young ladies I used to counsel in the recovery community. They, when it came down to it, were not at all interested in parenting their children, even though they insisted that they did. They did everything they could to keep from having to settle down and raise their children. They had excuse after excuse for not paying their child support, but kept themselves supplied with cigarettes, Coach bags, twice-monthly acrylic nail appointments, and new clothes, because they, in their words, had learned to love themselves. It was clear to me and everyone who had been around the block, that they did not want to have to take care of children. They made sure they were deemed unfit, on purpose.

    The resources that are WASTED trying to chase people like this down is astounding! Offer the resources, give them 6 months to respond and then terminate their parental rights. These children need stability! They need to bond with a loving adult that puts their needs first. As a former foster parent, ive seen this play out too many times. The names are different but the story is the same and these children grow up to repeat the cycle if they dont get stability early on. Theres the odd few that defy the odds but not too many. I was one of those foster parents that really cared and was willing to adopt but what i saw was countless children sent back to parents that did the bare minimum and i never saw them again. Most cases, the kids would inevitably be taken AGAIN and sent to, yet another, foster home. I couldnt take it😢

    • @JD-Defenders
      @JD-Defenders 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem is that there are not enough homes out there for them. So there is a very strong chance they will end up in an orphanage and grow up in an institution or in a house where they are just a commodity. Either is almost worse than where they are.

    A big risk to children of parents like this is that, even if the parents tried to do their best, the fact they use drugs and can’t maintain stable housing, means they are likely associating with a variety of OTHER people who are a risk to their children. This greatly increases the likelihood of the children being assaulted or sexually abused.

    The GAL's statement at the end says it all about the tragedy of cases like these. All the damage caused by the parents' drug addiction, criminal behavior, and abusive chaotic parenting styles will continue to work against their children, because they've treated them in such a way that the kids now aren't good candidates for adoption. So, since they're unlikely to be adopted, maybe we should just give them back to the totally messed up people and circumstances that helped to make them this way in the first place? Are they better off bounced around in foster care, maybe getting services to help them and perhaps landing a caring placement, or maybe ending up in an awful placement? Or do we give them back to a dad who, despite his best intentions, has shown he makes terrible choices and will likely allow their mentally ill abusive mother to see them? I wouldn't want to be the one making this decision. These poor kids were dealt a sh!tty hand and will continue paying the price for circumstances they had no say in creating.

      Well said.. horrible. And bouncing around or ending up bouncing around different treatment/ mental health facilities is even worse. I was one of these kids who grew up in dhs custody from age 11-18 and was in well over 50 placements. Foster homes, group homes, mental hospitals, crisis units. It causes lifelong damage. Alot of the kids i grew up ended up homeless, on the streets, mentally ill, on drugs, in jail & were never able to truly recover from the trauma im 31 I still struggle with close personal relationships & abandonment issues. Luckily im doing ok though compared to alot of the kids i grew up with. Wouldnt say that 10 years ago was in and out of jail, in abusive dv relationships, very suicidal etc.. my son saves me he is 8 & he is my world and my only family. I'm going through this with my 'nephew' right now. My elderly cousin (60's) somehow adopted a baby while she was in full-swing liver failure. My sister lived with her and wound up raising the baby. Well, cousin refuses to take her meds, gets acidosis, gets very nasty, screaming, throwing things, and then dies abruptly right before the kid's 5th birthday. Nothing in place to make sure the house and his inheritance is secure. Some bad players in the family take the house and kick out my sister and the kiddo. She moves across the country with him without telling anyone, never got him any sort of counseling, bad-mouths my cousin all the time which I understand but that's the only mommy he ever knew! You don't rant in front of the kid about how sick and mean and unreasonable she got before the end. Apparently in May, he had an absolute meltdown, very aggressive, kicking, throwing things, threatening people... he's 7. So what does my sister do in response? Surrendered him to the freaking state and said he had NO family! I'm trying to see now if I can get custody of him, but I live across the country and the social services in their state are fucking abysmal. She, on the other hand, has been living it up on the beach, at parks, concerts, eating out, etc... like he never existed in the first place. She won't even say his NAME anymore. I can't imagine what sort of trauma this kid's already dealt with. It infuriates me how people can mess their kids up and not even GAF. Biological or not, you had guardianship, you raised him until 7... how could you just forget about him like an old sweater? 😞

There's no doubt that mom isn't willing to do what she needs to do in order to reunite with the children. While Mr Lane expresses his desire to comply with any all services he poses too much of a risk to the stability of the children. The fact is that he will consistently be at risk of being picked up on a warrant especially with continuing to drive on a suspended license. If he ends up back in jail even if it's only for a night then there's no one to care for the children. This is a sad and tragic situation for these little people.
