On the other hand, you don't lose your consciousness if you got infected so you'd be fully aware of the unspeakable acts you have and would do to other people.
Good war movies? People die instantly and silently. One of my favorite instances being from Hacksaw Ridge when the main character wakes up a soldier who was wounded and passed out on the battlefield. It'd dead quiet, a ceasefire. He wakes up screaming and leans himself upwards; only to eat a hail of turret fire that instantly silences him, and we're left watching something that was once very full of life have their lightswitch flipped in an instant. Conversely, bad war movies do not do this. Deaths are drawn out and bland. We don't get connected to the humanity and fragility of life when someone eats 5 shots and is still yelling in pain but by all means they are "dead" now. Now apply that to horror movies, but flip the order of death-style. Most horror movies are VERY FAST with ultra-gore moments. They just don't hit as well like that. Conversely, if we draw it out, and show that stabbing someone a couple times, or even 20 times wont kill them in under 3 seconds; it becomes VERY real. It makes the audience realize that the violence they fear in real life is not so cut and dry. People don't get stabbed to death and just keel over. They sit there and get stabbed, a lot, then they bleed out. It's VERY rarely a fast and merciful death like most mainstream horror would have us believe. There. Convo is over.
One thing that stuck out to me was a trigger warning someone put before talking about the movie. They said "violence, rape, and cruelty." Cruel is the right word. Lots of movies are violent, but not a lot of movies are as cruel, vile, and sadistic as the sadness. I mean they couldnt go nuts to the wall with showing all of it like in the comic, I still applaud that someone did an adaptation. The ending was fitting imo, most of the stories in Crossed end that way, specially when people are looking for each other.
@it’s a good ending on a writing perspective, I can appreciate it. At the same time I do wish that it provided a little more closure because I’m a basic bitch of a viewer. Generally in my mind the ultimate destruction of a character as the ending is a little unfulfilling. For instance if Full Metal Jacket ends right as Joker kills the VC sniper it wouldn’t be as good at delivering the gut punch of “everything’s shit and that’s just what happened” as a bunch of marines singing Mickey Mouse like they didn’t just watch their friends die. This movie does an excellent job eliciting that feeling of disgust from the audience, or at least me, but the ending isn’t as effective in the same way as the rest of the movie. A final stand where the two both finally meet their end together would be a very basic and closed way of ending the movie, if not inventive. Then again, the ending is uncomfortable for me and it is a movie built around being uncomfortable.
Just saw mistaGG's review of this, I'd love to see you two break down some movies together!!! Also, I love Steve in the background just holding it down🖤🖤
Something else to add is the use of practical effects instead of a cgi mess. The horror genre, in my opinion, has always thrived off the hard work of the artists making the props believable.
I have eye trauma and THAT scene, despite being implied, made me and my partner had to take a break but holy hell, it meant a lot to me. I got pan uveitis and was pretty much blind during the pandemic, hardly anyone caught up with me, talked to me, asked me if I was ok. It legit felt like that scene and I thought of everyone as just as brutal and selfish as the zombies in the film. It hit hard. It's a fantastic film but I will probably never watch it again.
You and your partner took a break... from the SucketPlugging. Gave ya a new perspective on how horrific what you do is, didn't it (JK).?. Glad you went back to having your fun, though.
the fact that you genuinely and unironically compared those two things is fucking insane. you're an actual insane person. seek professional mental help on a long term basis.
I always have a hard time to put into words why I like certain disturbing animes or movies when it comes to talking about them but then what you said at 8:07 - 8:35 is perfectly how I feel
Is laughing at gore and violence more like a coping mechanism? Because you aren't seeing it for what it is and represents, instead pushing it away with "lol this movie is so faaaaake". Just some thoughts
Good video and argument. Well presented and appreciated. I studied film, my mom taught it. Thanks for doing film analysis justice with an open mind, solid reviews and I love that you connected with the director and we got him as part of it. Truly rare for any medium but film is tough sometimes. Love the inside track and the honest candor was very earnestly received. "Now, there IS a scene where someone get their eyeballs gauged out and the socket fucked buuut"... lol.
Watched his again the other day, was waiting for Meatcanyon to do a review on it. I remember he said he was friends with the director in the horror movie video with Wendigoon
My favorite detail of the movie; the tie and suit of the businessman darkens throughout the movie; stained with blood. From bright yellow and white, to a dark wine red and sickening purpleish blue.
I love the passion you have for horror movies! You made me rewatch this movie, after I barely got through it the first time lol. We need a papa meat horror movie already!!!
It was really nice to see The Host (2006) shown off at the end of the video. I rarely see that film brought up, and I personally really enjoy it. I'd love to hear more of what MeatCanyon had to say about it, especially considering it's from a very good director.
Shoutout to Crossed. Very cool series that I would read the comics during my CompSci classes. I liked how the story was told with flashbacks and the present so by the last issue you see how the whole group met and who's left at the end.
Nah, Crossed is shit. Just nihilistic nonsense without much to really say. Ennis is better at creating concepts that others are able to better write. Crossed though? Exception to that. Nobody has made anything of value of it except this movie.
Half way thru this video i found it on youtube (with subtitles) and watched it all and now I'm back....and all i can say is you have traumatized me papa....how could you papa...
I absolutely love just randomly stumbling on a masterpiece when looking for something to watch. I picked it cuz it looked like another zombie film which I love but what I wound up watching was sooo much better 😊.
I really like the idea of a zombie virus that is dangerous just because it destroys inhibitions, kinda like being drunk, and you just do whatever you really wanted to do by being fully confident in being the piece of shit you truly are.
That’s not exactly the right take. it’s called the sadness because people are aware of what they’re doing and cry, they just aren’t in control kind of like a dream.

funny how the over seas zombie films recognize that some people may be immune to the outbreak and only become stronger from the bite i noticed that in a great netflix film that also came out during covid called "All Of Us Are Dead" in that show a couple people became immortal due to the zombie bite i like how they spice up the movies with cool realistic stuff like that
As someone who went through sa as a kid, I can't even begin to describe the disgusting feeling I have with movies like that or shows like Berserk. The gore I can handle, it's the sa stuff I can't. It makes me want to crawl into a hole and never come out.
I feel like anything with SA involved is disgusting, and I can't help but despise the producers of films including it, if a horror movie has any amount of SA in it, no matter if it's an amazing horror movie for every other part, it's now a trash movie in my mind.
This is the horror that I actually love, the type thats not cheap jumpscares but terror and primal fear seeing these "monsters" are just people who are doing depraved things, no fear just the idea that they must feel pleasure, pain, orgasm, enjoyment out of any depraved shit they do. Theyre not unstoppable, but sure as shit very very very difficult to even fight back. They dont even give you a quick death
Honestly for me a movie that actually touches bases with how humans truly are couldn't really possibly be bad, the fact is it made people uncomfortable to know the truth about majority of everyone else around them, or at least have it pointed out. The film by no means was bad, it's just a lot of people are uncomfortable when faced with the reality of how others really are and usually even themselves. The fact of the matter is this type of stuff is actively happening to others around us right now as we speak, with people who are in a perfectly functioning sane society, which means that if a disease like this really did break out, this is exactly what would be happening, and honestly the reality would be a lot worse than this movie depicts. (Considering they were only showing adults) ... Personally I think the film is beautiful because the film is true. More true than a lot can even face the reality to admit. Sometimes it isn't even about shock or getting a reaction, some artistic tablets are used to call everyone out of their shit. 🥀
Okay if this is what human beings are really like then why did we ever form hunter-gatherer societies that eventually became towns and countries and communities? We are built to be communal and social. The idea that humans are built to seek violence is just inherently anti-science.
You inspired me to watch this meat papa and what a masterpiece!!!! Before this train to Busan was my favorite Asian zombie movie but this definitely tops it 👌👌
I enjoyed this movie, but it wasn't really all that to me. Sure, the zombies were scary and brutal as hell, but that was pretty much it. I felt it was missing an encapsulating aesthetic or unique take on zombies like they did with Train to Busan (which I thought was much better).
Watched this with my parents, and they ended up leaving me alone like halfway through the film, lol. I think you should do a video on the live action adaptation of Uzumaki. I would love to see your thoughts on that.
I honestly want to see this man do the worst goriest scariest shit he could do. it's very interesting to hear him saying he could go waaay farther despite *spoiler* the boyfriend describing what he wants to do to his girlfriend
This movie is brutal AF!! I loved it! It seems like no matter what you say about it, you can't spoil it. There's just so much and it's layered, like a visceral poetry, gory but beautiful and horrifying. This director has such talent, I can't wait to see what else he's got in him.
Damn. Thats a cool ass concept. Instead of the standard flesh eating monster thing it just unleashes a persons most primal urges to butcher and maim the people around them. Thats badass

As soon as this film was described to me by a friend I immediately thought of Crossed by Garth Ennis. I love everything done by Ennis. The Boys, Preacher, The Punisher, Batman Reptilian, Stitched, Jennifer Blood... highly recommend all of it.
As someone who avoids horror stuff like the plague (am a squeamish boy) even I can appreciate the ambient horror on display here. People without inhibitions, morals, ethics just the will to commit the darkest fantasies crawling in the backs of their minds is quite a scary concept.
As someone that rarely likes or watches movies, I gotta say this one was my favorite. I really appreciate that this movie didn't take the easy way out and blame everything on being supernatural or paranormal.
Immediately bought the movie after watching the video. The way you set this movie up makes it sound so good and exactly what I’ve been trying to find in newer movies
a bit late to the party here, the original title would translate to "The Cries of Sorrow", hence explained the tears from their eyes. People who got infected are all aware what are they doing, they still have their own personality but no self-control over it. one of the character quoted "It's like resisting to not blink your eye. You just can't!" there are a lot of subtle highlights to "eyes" in the movie as in physical body parts, like the infected people's eyes went black, eye stabbing, and a lot of other "eyes" being mentioned. layers and layers of stories are well stacked one on the other, i would love to dig deeper into some of the details i found but it's really hard to rewatch the whole movie again lol
Im just gonna say it. Once youve seen this and/or Crossed, youve seen every horrific thing imaginable depicted in fiction and nothing can top this. Its kinda weird to be numb to graphic things in fiction now.
There’s something about it not being real that will always lessen the impact for me. I’ve seen a few dead bodies and even mildly damaged houses ones are far worse than any horror because it used to be a person.
@BlancoBetter ha no thankfully, I studied forensic science at university and we were shown crime scene victims. There’s also a TH-cam video of a famous suicide I was morbidly interested in, this mayor/politician was caught doing something illegal and it would deny his family his pension so he shot himself live in court so they’d get the money.
Garth Ennis is the King of Edgelords. He’s a middle-aged man now, but his approach to stuff like The Boys is just: ‘How can I make all my villains cartoonishly evil, my side characters insanely stupid and my plot twists nonsensical?’
The Sadness made me feel quite uncomfortable at times, and that from someone who likes splatter movies. It's just, it fuels fear against other People, because i don't know what depraved thoughts they have and that they could snap anytime soon. I believe that The Sadness might have also worked without the gore though

The House That Jack Built, the picnic scene. Broke me. Ugh. No thank you.
Here before it’s taken down, love you papa.

I found the over the top violence comical. The squirmy part was the chunky vomit in your face (and business man pre infection).

Goofy ass movie
Is laughing at gore and violence more like a coping mechanism? Because you aren't seeing it for what it is and represents, instead pushing it away with "lol this movie is so faaaaake". Just some thoughts
The Sadness- when you let intrusive thought win.
"Now, there IS a scene where someone get their eyeballs gauged out and the socket fucked buuut"... lol.
I can't stop laughing whenever I see the damn Steve Harvey drawing 💀
Loved the sadness. I hope more movies like it come out in the future
Shoutout to MistaGG for introducing me to this film! His content is worth checking out! Hope to see you and him collaborate in the future!
Watched his again the other day, was waiting for Meatcanyon to do a review on it. I remember he said he was friends with the director in the horror movie video with Wendigoon
I recently started binging his videos. He's great and his editing it top notch. And he can rap too!
I can't believe the year's most praised zombie movie is literally about a virus that lets people's intrusive thoughts win. That's wild
The level of excitement Papa Meat is showing when discussing this film is genuinely wholesome.
Which is ironic considering the movie.
*You can always adore someone's craft.*

My favorite detail of the movie; the tie and suit of the businessman darkens throughout the movie; stained with blood. From bright yellow and white, to a dark wine red and sickening purpleish blue.
A truly awesome twist on the Zombie genre! Looooved it. Most revolutionary take since 28 days later

This makes regular zombie movies like a paradise. I loved the idea hope there’s a 2nd one. I think he coulda made it a lot worse gore wise.
It was really nice to see The Host (2006) shown off at the end of the video. I rarely see that film brought up, and I personally really enjoy it. I'd love to hear more of what MeatCanyon had to say about it, especially considering it's from a very good director.
agreed! would love to hear a take from him
Shoutout to Crossed.

This movie hit me like a freight train, had me clinching my butthole more than a few times.
If you like that concept look up "the crossed"

@@crakhaed no but I am very open to any suggestions because my wife and I watch horror almost daily. Its hard to find anything left that's really good. Last film I really enjoyed was a movie called HIS HOUSE.
@@billybobby4637 The Wailing is pretty cool. Hereditary is my favourite horror movie but I'm guessing you've seen it. Do you have more recommendations?
@@crakhaed Bone Tomahawk is more of an adventure film rather than a horror. There is one scene where a minor character gets killed brutally, but other than that, the movie is quite tame and slow paced.
funny how the over seas zombie films recognize that some people may be immune to the outbreak and only become stronger from the bite i noticed that in a great netflix film that also came out during covid called "All Of Us Are Dead" in that show a couple people became immortal due to the zombie bite i like how they spice up the movies with cool realistic stuff like that
As someone who went through sa as a kid, I can't even begin to describe the disgusting feeling I have with movies like that or shows like Berserk. The gore I can handle, it's the sa stuff I can't. It makes me want to crawl into a hole and never come out.
Some stuff is horribly triggering I understand you and I agree.
Same, I get it’s for shock value but I just feel like it’s unnecessary and overdone
I feel like anything with SA involved is disgusting, and I can't help but despise the producers of films including it, if a horror movie has any amount of SA in it, no matter if it's an amazing horror movie for every other part, it's now a trash movie in my mind.
L for watching beserk
@walterrising4276 yeah, you have to read it. The adoption is really bad
If we “truly are” like the infected people in the movie we’d already be living the movie. We’re not, fortunately.
I felt it was missing an encapsulating aesthetic or unique take on zombies like they did with Train to Busan (which I thought was much better).
b-but muh edgy and violent scenes!

As soon as this film was described to me by a friend I immediately thought of Crossed by Garth Ennis. I love everything done by Ennis. The Boys, Preacher, The Punisher, Batman Reptilian, Stitched, Jennifer Blood... highly recommend all of it.
basically it is a crossed movie
Beautifully said! I try to explain this to so many people when they ask why I like movies like this. Love to hear I'm not the only one!
As someone who avoids horror stuff like the plague (am a squeamish boy) even I can appreciate the ambient horror on display here. People without inhibitions, morals, ethics just the will to commit the darkest fantasies crawling in the backs of their minds is quite a scary concept.
A random Facebook user once said this
"You can't be a Death Metal Fan without liking Zombies"
As someone that rarely likes or watches movies, I gotta say this one was my favorite.
I really appreciate that this movie didn't take the easy way out and blame everything on being supernatural or paranormal.
Basicly plot can be summarized by "what if there was a virus that makes your intrusive thoughts into action"
Immediately bought the movie after watching the video. The way you set this movie up makes it sound so good and exactly what I’ve been trying to find in newer movies
I literally just bought it and finished it. Really good recommendation 🤘🏼
a bit late to the party here, the original title would translate to "The Cries of Sorrow", hence explained the tears from their eyes. People who got infected are all aware what are they doing, they still have their own personality but no self-control over it. one of the character quoted "It's like resisting to not blink your eye. You just can't!"
there are a lot of subtle highlights to "eyes" in the movie as in physical body parts, like the infected people's eyes went black, eye stabbing, and a lot of other "eyes" being mentioned.
layers and layers of stories are well stacked one on the other, i would love to dig deeper into some of the details i found but it's really hard to rewatch the whole movie again lol
Im just gonna say it. Once youve seen this and/or Crossed, youve seen every horrific thing imaginable depicted in fiction and nothing can top this. Its kinda weird to be numb to graphic things in fiction now.
Wondered if it was based on Crossed after I finished watching it😅
I recommend reading Crossed: I Wish You Were Here. Its one of the better stories in the crossed universe in my opinion.
Oh shut up
There’s something about it not being real that will always lessen the impact for me.
I want to see Pappy Protein draw the old woman who is the first infected seen in the film.
I tried to read Crossed but it was just way too much for me, and this is coming from a huge fan of Berserk.
It's way too edgy, for sure.
Crossed: Wish You Were Here, is one of the better stories in the series
Unlike Garth Ennis, Kentaro Miura can actually write deep and captivating stories while having mature content.
@@nottegiew at this point I'm convinced the only good thing Garth Ennis has done is Preacher.
Garth Ennis is the King of Edgelords. He’s a middle-aged man now, but his approach to stuff like The Boys is just: ‘How can I make all my villains cartoonishly evil, my side characters insanely stupid and my plot twists nonsensical?’

I think that I'm sad enough with humanity that I could believe this story could happen 50-100 years in the future
I'm normally horrified by this sorta stuff, but once I get hooked on a story I power through. This actually worked on me with Crossed (it was hard to get started) but once I got going I went through the first few issues, psychopath, Wish you were here, and badlands. I could never picture this in film, but the Sadness definitely got really close. I would suggest priming yourself with less disturbing comics prior to reading Crossed though. It's ALOT of nihilism but there's quite a few sparks of humanity in there that make it worth going through.
