Stuart Gordon was the king of B movies and always stretched low budgets to deliver movies that were always somewhat cheesy but also genuinely creepy and always fun. Dagon is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is so convincing despite the low budget and the pacing never drags. It's definitely not the most faithful Lovecraft adaption, but it feels like what a Lovecraft movie should be in my eyes.
the drunk man going "noo fish peepl nooo" is going to haunt my dreams... And by that I mean I'm gonna wake up in the middle of the night to laugh my ass off.
The only meter i have for Lovecraftian films - especially from the 80s or 90s, is whether or not they adhere to Lovecrats stories, which Dagon definitely does. This is a GREAT FILM, especially considering the adherence to lovecraft lore that this film achieves. This movie is one of the best Lovecraftian horror films ever made. It surly beats Reanimator or from beyond, etc. This is a far more serious film, and it succeeds in its realism while also firmly staying true to the fantastical nature of lovecrafts stories.
4:07 I "was today years old" when I realized this movie was probably the inspiration for the Village level in TimeSplitters 1, more so than the actual Lovecraft story.

I absolutely love HP Lovecraft. Too bad there isn't any good game or film adaptations of his stories
Color Out of Space.
Call of Cthulhu is a decent game adaptation. Similar setting in a fishing village on a remote island where you play as a detective. Best one I’ve seen, but yea the vast majority are painfully bad
This has been one of my favorites ever since it came on the SyFy channel in the middle of the night in 2011. I've since gone on to watch the cast commentary that comes with the DVD, and holy shit, you can't miss that. Amazing.
Idk you guys but Dagon was my sexual awakening and explains rest of my life quite accurately.
What a bizarre comment.
Idk why seeing him dressed up as a fish made me think this, but I really want Hunter to dress up as Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Ayeeeee fish meat baybeee!!!!
I remember when Dagon premiered on the Sci-Fi channel about 15 years ago when I was in high school. One of my all time favorites.
the drunk man going "noo fish peepl nooo" is going to haunt my dreams... And by that I mean I'm gonna wake up in the middle of the night to laugh my ass off.
no bro that was actually so sad bro he was so nice
15:40 that's a perfect edit right there. a seashell version of the monitization logo
Seeing you with a hair cut is unnerving.
I love B movies because sometimes you get some real gems like Toxic Avengers and, my favorite B movie, Killer Klowns from Outer Space
never shave or cut your hair again. or else
7:38 "Throwing flashbang" - proceeds to look straight into a lit torch
My guy xD
Probably gonna get buried, but I knew I recognized that drunk homeless man's voice somewhere
Tortuge-Dieties uses the voice sample in Esoteric Order
I’ve never seen this but it looks like it was shot exactly like goosebumps.
The “Dun…dun…dunnnn!” In that mask. 😂
anyone else glad beardless papa meat kept the mask on the whole video?
The only meter i have for Lovecraftian films - especially from the 80s or 90s, is whether or not they adhere to Lovecrats stories, which Dagon definitely does. This is a GREAT FILM, especially considering the adherence to lovecraft lore that this film achieves.
This movie is one of the best Lovecraftian horror films ever made. It surly beats Reanimator or from beyond, etc. This is a far more serious film, and it succeeds in its realism while also firmly staying true to the fantastical nature of lovecrafts stories.
This movie is sampled in “Andromeda” by Bong of Cthulhu.
Papa Meat was such a fresh-faced baby boy in this video 🥹
The scariest part of this video is Papa Meat, with no facial hair and short hair. Thank god he's grown it out now
One of my favorites from one of my favorite directors. Love how all the Imbocans sound like Ponda Baba
4:07 I "was today years old" when I realized this movie was probably the inspiration for the Village level in TimeSplitters 1, more so than the actual Lovecraft story.
The voice he did around 19:38 is fantastic
