We Brought Scooters To The Smoky Mountains..

  • It's that time of year again, in today's video we load up the scooters (literally) and head south for the Smokies. While the Small Bore Rally has gotten bigger and better we mainly go down for the beautiful mountain roads and the infamous Tail of The Dragon. Our moped's of choice: the 2022 Trail 125, 1996 Honda Helix, and an 85 Honda Elite 150. I will say in advance that this is the most fun I have ever had on two wheels and I can't wait to share some of that excitement with you!
    Enjoy the ride.

    A lot of people don't realize that it's a lot of fun to ride just about anything even smaller bikes and scooters as you all know, I've owned every cc range bikes up to 1500 & 1800 Goldwings then in 2004 I stopped riding until 2018 and bought a 1996 Helix just like yours and it's all I'll ever need at this point in life to drive on back roads or cruise along the old parallel to the interstate scenic roads to reach the Appalachian areas in my state.

      I made it down the tail and a bit further then the chain broke again. We did another trail fix but borrowed a hammer from a local this time. Made it about 2 miles from the small bore rally and the chain gave up completely. At that point we were close enough to grab a chain from the cabin. Amazing time and well worth it! Thanks for taking us on an adventure!

    The foothills parkway is another road that just doesn't make sense. In a good way, I don't know how they justified this perfectly smooth no expense spared curvy road. Really like the smoky mountains area in general, so much fun.
    Next time you are there check out Wayah bald. Very cool road leads up to the hardpack gravel path that goes up to the top. The trail would be right at home climbing that I think.

    I bought an ADV 150 scooter for my wife last year (I ride a lot and have 3 bikes). Turns out that I liked riding her scooter so much I bought one for myself. It makes me feel like a kid again everytime I ride it...Hell, the first day I bought it I stole my neighbors mailbox and got a bad tattoo. I returned the mailbox the next day since it was my brothers house. Point is...I didn't realize how much fun scooters are:)

    Omg you Dumasses passed me going down foothills had to been 85mph on that helix, 😂 😂 😂 Then the Kenwood Honda passed me a minute later and I followed all the way down like 60-70 carving all the way down, almost never let off. Really enjoyed the rip with you and nice talking with you. Anyhow I like you page, maybe see you guys next year. This is our 2nd year at the small bore rally/dragon. Amazing weekend, weather and roads….endless smiles.

    I have a Helix. It’s about 300 miles away from turning 100,000 miles. Last month I walked into my local Honda shop at just the right time. I scored me a Trail 125. It’s, “More fun then a barrel of monkeys!” (The Beach Boys.)
    It’s exciting to see you folks with two of the scooters that I own. I also had an Elite 150 back in the ‘90’s. It was not the beloved Deluxe model though. Please keep these awesome videos coming and thank you!

    • @Serpico1152
      @Serpico1152 ปีที่แล้ว

      @New England Pats : 100k wow awesome! Local Honda shop, more fun than a barrel of monkeys, and the Beach Boys, man I haven't heard that kind of talk since the late 1960's when I was coming of age and drooling over every model Honda from 50 to their largest 305cc, can you imagine what a craze the Helix would have started back then. There's no plain old Honda shops around in my area of MD anymore just multiple brand dealers who don't care what they sell you nowadays. I grew up owning just about every model over the years until I stopped and sold my 1500 & 1800 Goldwings back in 2004 then got the itch to ride again 4 years ago and bought a 1996 Helix with 22,000 miles on it and I'm still loving everything about it. It's getting harder to find one every day and when I do see one up for sale it's usually gone in a day or two.

    • @newenglandpats59
      @newenglandpats59 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Serpico1152
      Thanks very much for the enthusiastic reply Carmine. In all fairness, my Honda shop does sell others brands. I know all of the people there and I bet they agree that Honda is the best. It’s the biggest motorcycle company on earth, I think that proves it.
      I had a 1995 1500cc Goldwing and was not happy with it, so I went back to Honda Scooters.
      My ct125 is going on 1900 miles and my Helix has 101,180 miles. I really like “Little Honda” but I absolutely love the Helix. I have almost exclusively rode the Helix since 1996 and my adulation of it gets stronger as I grow older. That’s not surprising because the Helix quickly caught on with elderly bikers with its step-through frame. Some have commented they would have otherwise had to give up riding. It’s super comfortable as I’m sure you agree Carmine. I added a Utopia backrest to my Helix making it even more like a “Couch.”

    • @Serpico1152
      @Serpico1152 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newenglandpats59 Hey thanks so much for your friendly response also. I have always been fascinated by motor scooters 🛵 as well as all size motorcycles 🏍️. Back in the late 70's I had a 1975 Kawasaki Z-1 900B (my only non Honda owned) and a moped, then found a nice small CB-125 with a couple hundred miles on it and people thought I was crazy because I liked to ride each one for different situations (I wouldn't have cared if it was only a step through original Super Cub 50 model) but I used it to commute 75 miles weekly on back roads to work and back home on less than 1 gallon of gas because it got around 90 mpg, I drove the 30 MPH 2 cycle moped just around the city, and used the Z-1 for longer country trips until I would finally buy a Goldwing cruiser later on. My biggest complaints with the Goldwings we're 1) the heavy 800 + lb weight 2) higher seat height/center of gravity/& balance 3) not having forward foot control positioning for overall safety and added comfort, sure I had highway cruising pegs for comfort but unless I was far away from all other traffic I always felt that it was too great a distance for quick reaction time to move my feet back to the controls in an emergency situation. The CT-125 looks like a lot of fun to ride on different terrains as I have owned 3 different scrambler Honda models back in the early 70's and enjoyed going on/off road with them especially when the road suddenly came to an end. As you mentioned "caught on with elderly bikers with it's step through frame" you are so correct because the Helix was an easy choice for this senior to keep riding again because I cannot twist & pivot safely with my left leg to straddle larger bikes comfortably nowadays due to having a non existent ACL in that knee. I like and would have a Utopia backrest if I rode 2 up, but since I always ride 1 up I strapped a not used high backpack 🎒 on the passenger seat and backrest area stuffed with a thick compressed foam cushion and it's really awesome because I can adjust my amount of pressure applied along a greater area even higher than the lower lumbar area for comfort if necessary to eliminate backaches while riding any distance on my scooter couch 🛋️. Happy and safe riding to you, wished I knew more people like you in my area who talked the scooter talk and enjoyed riding one likewise!

    CT125 isn't a scooter. It's a semiautomatic motorcycle. Same with the SuperCub.. its the same engine as the Monkey and Grom and Dax (CT70 looking bike) just instead of a traditional hand clutch its built into the shifter. If you partiality compress the shifter you will disengage the clutch.
