Hey, from Brighton (South Coast, England) That was a great episode! We are really enjoying your channel and your AMEL is amazing - Looking forward to the next episode :)
Glad to hear!!! Hopefully we can keep you interested through the Pacific. Just got off the phone with the insurance company about 10 minutes ago, and they said that Aquarius has to be in New Zealand by December 1, 2018. Leaving Panama headed to the Marquesas in about 3 weeks. :)
been watching since your beginning...love the adventures...in you introduction each video, Sevile/Isabelle, I'm lost? look forward to future sails...favorable winds!
Thanks for watching! Zivile doesn't like her name because most Americans are not able to properly pronounce it... Thus, sometimes she goes by Isabelle.
Hi Klemen, yes the aft cussions always outside, and they are made with marine lether and all covered with fabric. The top fabric gets wet but the parolone inside doesn't soak through so it dries quick, but even laying on the wet cover on a hot day is refreshing
I like the wing on wing arrangement you fly. Smallest yacht I crewed was an 84 foot Ketch and a drifter is what we ran with 15 Knots and under. Poles are unmanageable on big boat. At least the 84' 102' and 125' I crewed on.
When you have the ballooner system up, it's much different than sailing wing on wing. We can sail 30 to 45 degrees off the wind. Wing on wing your angle off the wind is much less.
Depends on the size of the waves as well, but I would say with the ballooner and the genoa fully out ..... say about 15Kts apparent would OK. 20Kts is pushing it. That's apparent... So, in this case you should be moving at about 8Kts.... So, about 23Kts true is probably the right number. If the waves are off the side, and large, I would sheet in the ballooner system until the sails were comfortable. If the winds are higher, then I would sheet in until I am moving about 8 to 9 Kts. Some captains want to go as fast as possible, but I think 9Kts is about as fast as I want my rig to take me. It's not about how fast you can go when you're cruising, it's how far you can go without braking something.
I'm gonna guess that most of the time around the ripping of the ballooner, Ken wasn't nearly so quiet! :-) Sorry you lost it, it was a pretty sail. I think Delos lost theirs last year, too.
We didn't go to Bahamas on Aquarius. The most expensive were Panama: $20USD Cruising license + $105USD per person =$405 USD for 2 of us; Ecuador around $300 USD for cruising license and customs, and every port you get in /out you have to pay again... Caribbean were cheap - most of French islands 2 EUR to check in, 0 to check out, others up to $10 USD, except Antigua - it was pricier and very bureaucratic
Hello Artem, It depends on the angle of the wind. If you are trying to go dead down wind (DDW) to about 40 degrees off DDW, the ballooner is fastest and most comfortable sails to have up. If you have the ballooner system up, and you get more wind you can reef the ballooner system.... The ballooner system will work from 10kts (true) to 40kts (true) of wind. Apparent wind would be 5kts to 32kts, and you would reef the ballooner system to keep the boat moving about 8.5kts. If the waves are from the side, and too big you might not want to use the ballooner system because the poles may hit the water. If they do it can break the joint between the short pole, and the long pole. This would be expensive.
Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but your videos would be way better without all the filler music constantly playing. I think some of us would prefer to hear your conversations unadulterated, and the sound of sailing.
I like the music. I think you put out a quality product. I think most of the popular sailing channels do something similar. Makes it enjoyable to watch. Everyone will have a different opinion.
Hatches are removed for passages, but in place for extra security in a marina or at anchor. Most cruisers like them, because they give you a few minutes to figure out what to do if boarded.
If you're sleeping it might be nice to have a minute to reach that Glock before they have a knife at your neck. It is very rare to get boarded, but good to be prepared!
Sailing Aquarius Around The World I sailed now more than 20 years around the world. All hat hatches are closed (pepperspray resistant) and never had any knife in my neck. The Glock reduce discussion with that guys.
NICE!!!!! Flamingos !!! Awesome
Oh yeah!
Excellent video.

Happy New Year to You ! Keep us dreaming !
Far out, 3 days! What an adventure - we'd love your life if Laura got over her seasickness lol. Awesome videos guys :D
What is that at 4:48? Putting alcohol through the fish gills? Maybe that kills it faster? Just wondering
That's what we have been told! "Alcohol in the gills knocks them out." Fair Winds!!
Noticed u had your aft coushins out on the rain and u were using them couple of h later. Were they not wet?

How much breeze is to much to run with?

No, this time I was quite! No need to get upset as the sail was very old. See you in a few weeks!
Very fine! What's the cost to visiting some of these islands? (Customs). I heard the Bahamas was expensive.
We didn't go to Bahamas on Aquarius. Hello guys, thanks so much for video. I'm so sorry for my English, but I can't get, would it be faster or slower without ballooner?

Thank you for detailed explanation, hopefully one day I'll try it myself. For now will wait for more videos from you :)
You may want to watch Sailing Satori. Their boat is nice too.
Yes, they are sailing a nice boat. I also enjoyed a few of their vids. Fair winds
Hello, from muddy Southern California.
Hi, well be back in San Diego for a week at the end of the month. Hope it's nice and warm when we get there! Yeah right!
U guys need to watch sv delos same boat u got they been sail 9 years
We watch Delos when we have some good internet.
Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but your videos would be way better without all the filler music constantly playing. I think some of us would prefer to hear your conversations unadulterated, and the sound of sailing.
Note taken, and we will try to make a change. Several people have said the same... We are trying to make great vids, and appreciate your input!
I like the music. I think you put out a quality product. I think most of the popular sailing channels do something similar. Makes it enjoyable to watch. Everyone will have a different opinion.
I absolutely agree. I would live to hear the sounds of the ocean in the quiet shots
Good number of views, likes, and comments. The channel grows. That was a good looking fish. ⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓ 😁🌎⛵
Outstanding videography and a beautiful sail. Very hard to hear you talk over the music.
Why did you block your hatches with steel bars? These are your emergency Exits.
Hatches are removed for passages, but in place for extra security in a marina or at anchor. Most cruisers like them, because they give you a few minutes to figure out what to do if boarded.
Sailing Aquarius Around The World okay, I saw them on the last video. I have a Glock 40 for security reasons on board.
If you're sleeping it might be nice to have a minute to reach that Glock before they have a knife at your neck. It is very rare to get boarded, but good to be prepared!

Yes, I agree!
Nice passage, although like hearing the waves, music a little distracting. Cheers
Yes, note taken! Thanks for your input. We appreciate your comment.
