I have always been amazed at how a boat seems to shrink in size when in swell and waves, but it takes on the dimensions of an ocean liner when you take it out of the water to do annual maintenance!!

Hey Paul, my town is a the mouth of the Delaware River and so the Atlantic is but 4.3 miles from our Lewes ramp. You all had a lot of back wash waves on top of those beautiful swells. I hope to find a day with 4 to 6 (or even higher?) with wave lengths that are as nicely spread out as yours were. I'd love to experience the rhythm of beautiful swells and just go with it.
Also, loved the scene of the boats crossing at 14:30!
Great video Paul! The run outside was a lot of fun. I'm glad I did it.
Hopefully I pack enough to stay longer next time and meet a few of the guys. If you'll have us along again :p.
Apart from sleeping on a sharp angle at night in that shallow area, the Pacific was great.

Thanks for another outstanding video! I recently had a heart attack so I've been catching up on your last few videos. In one of them you commented on needing new ideas but I beg to argue that there is nothing wrong with your videos. They are entertaining, relaxing, beautiful video and editing along with great interaction with the other guys. I particularly like seeing all of the other boats in addition to your beauty. Oh man! I'm totally wrong. I came to the conclusion from all your videos that the group should be named the puddle pushers. All those perfect bays and fires and the weather (bit sick of seeing the weather in your town) And now you're adventuring out off the coast in the wild sea. 2-3m swell. So hats off from me now. Looks like you are not a puddle pusher anymore. I think there might have been a few of us waiting to see your take on the trip and it didn't disappoint.
Thanks Ross....Puddle Pushers, I quite like that name. The coast off Sydney can get pretty rough and we are blessed with some great lakes, so normally we take the easy route. Not sure we could make it from Sydney to Newcastle 75 Nm out in the ocean, without a lot more experience. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

Very pretty boat! Lovely relaxing video. Im stuck in the Maldives at the moment on a 220ft ketch, built in NZ by alloy yachts. Beautiful boat but a bit of a Gin palace. We haven’t put the sails up for weeks! And wont until European summer. Cant wait to get home yo my own 18ft ketch and go sailing for real, love small boats, but I’ve gota pay the bills!
Aah! Chris the Maldives... doesn't sound that bad. But I know what you mean when you can't go sailing....it's the sound of the water, the gentle breeze and harnessing of nature that gets you. Another excellent dinghy sailing adventure - your boat handled those high seas beautifully despite the beers! 6.3 knots must be near your max hull speed? Good to see so many of you adventurers there although you must have missed Josh whose video skills are giving even yours a run now!

That's fast aail boat
Back in 1980’s when sailed Puget Sound I used a Neptune 16’ under me. We use to get some 3’ up to 5 n 6’ once in awhile. That was hairy but exhilarating . Mostly steep stuff as the Southerlies blow up the Sound. The longer the fetch n hairier it got. Loved circumnavigating Vashion n Bainbridge Island.
Love seeing these long rollers n chop. Yah ! Probably about the safe limit for open boat..

I love your videos and Kate Louise. Might I suggest that you put some "baggy wrinkle" on your port and starboard mainstays to save wear and tear on your mainsail.

One of my favorite things is "uphill sailing" on out TT720. I'm sure that swell looks proportionally bigger the closer you are to the waterline and less free board you have. Can get quite steep and choppy just east of Lion island as there is a bit of a shoal there and also due to the reflections which tend to double them up. Looked like fun.

Wonderful. Big swells are so exciting...as long as they're not breaking. Would you benefit by keeping a cheap inflatable dinghy on board, for when you anchor off a beach? I saw Roger Barnes has one.

@@SailingKateLouise Cool. And what is the opinion of seakayaking vs dinghy cruising? Whats more enjoyable? Setting up a dinghy seems to be a larger commitment in time and effort. Seakayak can be dropped in anywhere and with minimal effort. Sometimes we have to overcomplicate things before realising what we had was perfect lol😬
@@superwag634 Sure I loved camp cruising in a Kayak and sleeping in a hammock, but you were restricted to 3 days as that was all the water you could carry. Everything I had was the lightest smallest possible but the Kayak was still full and heavy(Prijon Proteus). As I had dinghy sailed when younger, it was probably inevitable I would go back to sailing. With the added benefit(comfort) of a cuddy cabin and the added distance I could go, dinghy cruising was a no brainer. Thanks again, cheers Paul
Ha ha , David a friend of mine went to the pub a Pattonga...many beers later he went to the warf and couldn't find his boat...it went under the warf then got crushed and sunk with the rising tide..

have you thought of a pulley anchoring system were you drop the anchor out, then with a loop line, secure the other end on the beach , save swimming :)
Hi well I have an anchor buddy which works well.But in this case Using the stern line I just couldn't pull it in enough. I have seen the loop method using a fender but haven't tried it. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

I have not yet been out in a swell like that, but I never go out if the wind is more than 8m/sek. Both my boat and I are old, so we don't react too fast 🙂

Whenever I've gone in more wind than I'm use to, I find myself bouncing and tipping all night in my camper. I suppose that's a normal reaction for new sailors!
Hi Bruce, there only has to be a slight wash and it often bounces back off the shore, unless you are a long way out. I sleep on an airbed and rock around. But the annoying thing is it squeaks as it rubs against timber work and that can keep you awake.Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

Coming from a guy brave enough to sail a dinghy that could swamp and sink or capsize and turtle quite easily. 😅 I'd feel far more comfortable in the kayak.

@@SailingKateLouise Oh, no doubt. But kayaks are designed to be able to maneuver in rough water and recover more easily if flipped. I think you're the braver one here. 😉

Hi Stephen it comes from viking days when a group of sail/row boats go on an adventure(pillaging etc).The raid term is now used in Europe and the States and increasingly here, cheers Paul
Hi! I love your videos and I have a question.
My husband and I are interested in getting into dinghy sailing with a goal of going camping along the coat of Vancouver island as well as taking visitors and friends for picnics/short rides. So we’d like a boat that could fit two adults and camping gear or 4 adults and no gear. We would be camping on shore and not sleeping on the boat. We’ll be looking for a used boat as we want to be as cost efficient as possible.
Do you have any suggestions of what to look for or even what words to use while searching?
Hi my choice would be a Jon Welsford designed Pathfinder with a cuddy cabin. Lots of room and fast. But check out Siren 17 on youtube, there is a French guy who has made some great videos about sailing his Siren 17 with his wife around Canada...happy viewing, cheers Paul
Hi Heather , dinghy cruising is a lot of fun and you will meet up with others along the way. Suitable boats vary a lot around the world. But I would suggest (if you don't want too much maintenance) Fibre glass between 17-20 ft. There are many Siren 17's in your part of the world that look very nice.
