I also have a Shimmy 12 and have had it for 20 years. It's as good as they say. Mine is an original rig: no boom and no battens in the sails. I sail it on the Broadwater on the Gold Coast SE Qld. and apart from the jet skis it is the perfect environment for the boat due to the many sandbanks. It is a very dry boat and handles well in a blow. I have been thinking of putting a furler on the jib now also to make it easy when I'm solo. It's the perfect boat for me. The only changes I have made is to strengthen the area where the mast passes through the deck. I have had the wife and 3 kids with me when they were young but now can comfortably sail with 2 grown up sons and me. Thankyou Derek Ellard for your brilliant design.
A very beautifully made video Paul, and such a pleasure to have small boat sailing promoted in this way. Small boats are easy to use, low cost and low impact, but pay big dividends in enjoyment - less boat, more fun! Keep them coming, and many thanks!
Yep hopefully Steve will have it finished by Easter. I'll get another update next weekend, as it's the Boat fest open day at the boatshed. John's Shimmy was really nice and went well considering there wasn't much wind on the day. Thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
G'day Paul really enjoyed this video, love seeing other peoples builds and boats and just the general little insights you get from the conversation. Well done, more of the same please. Bless you mate.
Beautiful video ! So peaceful . I really love those little wooden sailboats. But I think I’ll stick to my plan of driving through Europe in our RV and taking my inflatable dinghy with me to go daysailing. AND I can sleep very comfortably at night. I really enjoy this. THX for your ideas Paul.
That was a beautiful calm day and place to sail and chat. The last few times I have been out you might have been too busy swearing and holding on to chat!
Thanks Rob Yes lake Wallace near Lithgow was quiet, no boat ramp though, so it's launch off the grass, also no outboards allowed . Where as Lake Lyell is smaller and very crowded in holidays(outboards/ jetskis) cheers Paul
Paul I have so much enjoyed you channel. I would love to come and sail with you. Problem is I have to launch at my local marina in Alabama USA and traverse down to the gulf coast then travers the Panama cannel then traverse the Pacific ocean, all in my 15" dingy. It's on my bucket list. I'll hit you up when I arrive. Cheers
@@SailingKateLouise I am in Clearwater, Florida, USA. There is a dingy cruising club here called West Coast Trailer Sailers. I am going to build a 4.8 meter sailing catamaran with a cabin on it for dingy cruising designed by Bernd Kohler. The boat I already built is a micro-skiff. How do I send pictures?
We sell the boat as a kit with the plans. Plans are not available separately. Currently, the plans don't provide enough information to build from scratch. When we update the plans, we may sell them separately in the future.
I only asked, besides liking the boat, since I am on east coast New Jersey USA and I would assume that the shipping cost would be extreme high....@@NoCoastBoatworks
I think he needs to get his skids on his trailer sorted, it's just supporting the boat with the first few inches of the skid and you can see the paint is gone in that spot. The whole idea of skids(as I'm sure most know) is the full length is supposed to support the boat, not just a few inches and on such a harsh angle. I hope i'm not coming across as a know it all, I just don't want to see him damage his boat after all the good work he's done
I think I heard him say that the skids (trailer bunks) were only lowered for launch & retrieval, so they are probably raised up and supporting along their full length for travel.. 3:35

Please may we have an update on Steve's build sometime in the future? And a launch day clip too please. I like the look of his Ptarmigan design.
He should launch around Easter....stay tuned, cheers Paul

What design and where are you, send me some photos, cheers Paul

Very nice boat!
Yep and it goes well, thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
Thank you for this video. I won't come to say hello : coming from Brittany I suppose I would be too late !🙂
Oh well, you are always welcome, cheers Paul
Nice interviews and look at the two boats, Paul. Is this the vid you meant to put out earlier today? Just asking for a friend....🙂
Yes, I accidently deleted Bad Surprise and had to upload it again. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Quite beamy
It is, but apparently rows quite well....but probably not fast, thanks again for watching, cheers Paul
Can you buy plans for the Shimmy 12"

Hi I thought I had replied to you sorry see above from Michael the owner of No Coast Boatworks, cheers Paul

No Coast Boatworks is US based (Kansas), so shipping a kit to you wouldn't be that expensive. @@rweeks6508

Yep that's right, there is no ramp on that lake, cheers Paul
Subtle leeway wings should not be controversial. A high-end catamaran company offers that option.
Yes I think they will be on all Scruffie boat updates, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
I’m a Sheltie! Why that name choice?
A Sheltie is a Shetland sheepdog and John named the boat after his pet. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
'PromoSM' 🙄
