Besides flippin and pitching, I’ve never seen Greg throw a traditional texas rig. I feel like a lot of his water would do good with a texas rigged worm or creature bait.
@@Tackletuesdayfishing I noticed this also...He usually does a bigger punch like setup with a larger weight instead of a regular 1/4oz weight with a craw bait...I catch the vast majority of my fish on a texas rig with 1/4oz weight and either a craw bait or a trick worm style bait...
@@SlothySeconds Yeah the only soft plastics I ever see him throw are punch baits, drop shots, paddle tail swim baits, and wacky rig senkos...But he definitely throws hard baits and topwater alot more...I think part of the reason is because watching someone work a soft plastic bait really slow is kinda boring sometimes and he is trying to make videos...
I grew up around there. Berryessa is my home water. Big lake, lots of space to Rome. Can be difficult to locate fish. Huge bait balls this year. They will never bite when there is natural bait around. Clear water.. subtle presentations of natural looking smaller sized bait,to find the random bass that's hunting. Tight lines!
Ive found the same thing. Really hard to get a consistent bite off of the bait balls. Youll see them busting, usually the ones weve gotten to bite are smallies, feels like we rarely reel in largies when we cast at busting fish out there
Since leaving California three years ago I do really miss some of the lakes. What I don't miss about the California lakes is the fact they have hours and the crowds. I am taking about San Diego County lakes. Haven't spent much time up north.
All Northern California fishing for bass is off right now. FLOODED RAGING RIVERS, LAKES ARE UP , DAMS ARE OPEN. IT WILL BE TWO SPAWNS BEFORE THE RIVERS ARE BACK TO NORMAL.
Yup thanks to Greg, my go to is 8 that's all the tubes I have on the boat. what I've come to understand is that you are a lot more likely to try other baits if it's right there at arms length.
When fishing a swimbait, I get bit 5x the bites throwing a 1/4 oz. "Owner" underbelly spin, with a 4" Rage baits vs. throwing just the swimbait. Cast to the shoreline and tick the gravel with the blade... on the retrieve.
Lipless crank bait, LV 500, was hitting last week with them, biggest was 6lb in 13ft of water, tried it at Camanche too and got a 3lb spot so any lipless just my preference for the LV cause I have em, run a purple chartreuse or white or transparent since water has been so clear, till next time, great content as per usual
love the content. Michigander here. Super hot tip, use 4-6ft of mono leader to that topwater, I use 12-15lb. Dont jack em close to the boat on trebbles, even when there out there a ways its better to do a lighter pulling hookset, just make sure your hooks are insane sharp on all topwaters, I sharpen mine with 1000grit wet stone, plenty of vids on it online, it does make a difference sharpening your own hooks no matter the brand. Stop the plopper bait about 10ft from your boat and rip it and pause, let the ripples go away and then pull in and recast if you dont see one following it. if one is following, work it like a popper and read their attitude. Ive had some great days on berry this year 40-55 fish days. Use a shad style drop shot with a much much lighter drop shot weight, as light as you can go and still hold. mono leader allows fish to suck it in better, braid is just 2 tight at times. 10lb fluro for dropshot though. Anywho, have fun! Im new to Berry still but dialing it in.
Greg, this makes you appreciate those Epic days. I always carry a few new baits to throw. Just something a little different. On these days, I can just enjoy the kayak, testing new ideas,, and the quiet lake. 😎 🎣 🌊
I always throw a lipless from 6sense, it runs just above that grass line and you can cover ground! Most of my bigger fish have come on that when nothing else was working.
1/4 oz ball jig head, 3” kietech swim bait (purple or silver/chartreuse), 6# flouro line. Cast out to 8’ to 15’, slowly work back, letting it set on the bottom.
This video was reassuring to a point. I bank fished that area a couple of times recently and it was a tough go! I got bit on a whopper plopper and when that died off, switched to a drop shot. Minimal bites on both. 🤷♂️
Just an FYI, Oak Shores doesn't close at 5pm(I talked to one of the employees opening the gate one morning) Only the entry gate closes at 5pm. You can leave at any time, they can't lock you in.
Watching this before I go out and fish a decently unfamiliar body of water tomorrow morning. At least you didn't skunk! I'm debating whether or not to tie on my choppo 90 as well or leave my frog on... I absolutely love frog fishing but haven't thrown the choppo out this year... hmm...
I had similar issues and the only thing that worked was a deeper diving crank bait ripping and stopping then ripping and stopping. Friggin fickle fish... Seemed to me that they had so much bait to munch on that the only way to get them to eat was to generate a reaction bite. Anything slow moving was of no interest.
The videos even on tough days. You certainly tried plenty. Assuming fish were deeper, I might have tried a senko or ribbon tail (either texas rig shakey head, or even a wacky rig). Only other thought...if fish were out deeper, I wonder if a deeper drop shot of a Gilly would work?
Thanks for sharing these videos i shows that it’s not always great fishing our river has been then same way you catch them great one day and the next not even a bite
Wow that was really wierd , only thing I can think of is maybe because of nice weather that lake has been heavily pressured cause it's so close to Bay Area.
Can actually be the same with Trout fishing where there is a huge hatch or abundance of natural food, they have zero interest in artificial. You may catch an occasional or have fish roll over on your fly but not take it, but they literally have crammed their bellies full and pretty much go dormant
I have appreciated your recent map overlays showing your routes. You always talk about covering water and your maps really show what lengths you go to to catch those fish. I live in the Bay Area and my home lake is clear lake and I’m always trying to figure out where you are. Keep up the great work.
Lakes in my area have done the same thing. The first week of June I was catching the fire out of them .... then all of a sudden, they have all disappeared. I have not even gotten a bite in the same lakes I was slaying them in just a week previous. you don't even see any activity, it's like somebody came in overnight and drained all the lakes of fish.
Ive learned over the years that if they are not chasing moving baits not to waste my time. Start picking that isolated wood apart with creature bait or jig
On the bright side you weren't in a tournament and facing lots of pressure. When you lost that largemouth, it reminded me of my Oroville tournament. I had a Spot hooked on my Keitech and was reeling it in. Then it decided to get unbuttoned at the boat! ARGH! 😂 However, thanks for showing us that even experienced anglers such as yourself suffer Debbie Downer days 🙁
I think a chatterbait right over the grass tops could have worked, but who really knows! For some reason youtube isn't sending me notifications for your videos lately, but I still come find them anyway! Good luck on your next trip
Ok now I’ve watched it. I would have in hind sight thrown a pegged 3/0 ewg with either a senko or 3-3.5” paddle tail and drag or pop it through that grass. Or work the weed line with it. A small like 1/4oz weight pegged on smaller ewg with a combo of stuff is my new last hope bait
You haven't thrown that underspin for awhile, or at least what you have shown here on the tube unless I missed it. I learned about that one from you believe it or not, I have had great success in some local lakes here in Wisconsin on a VMC Spin Jig Underspin with some type of shad color or just plain ol white 3.75 rage swimmer. Its kind of been the go to for me this season. 95.5" bag on a tourney I fished in May. Pretty good for Wis. I think.

If you're asking what I would've done, I would've taken a couple casts at those ladies tanning! lol jk Gotta take the good with the bad sir! Thanks for sharing
