I turn a Stainless Bolt into a Combination Lock

- In this video i'm turning a stainless steel bolt into a nice little combination lock.
I was always fascinated by those antique combination locks. I really like the design of them. A few weeks ago I bought one from eBay, but it turned out to be a cheap fake copy. I was really disapointed. Well if I can't buy one, then I make one myself. It was quite a challenge to get all the parts done and fit together, but the end result speaks for itself. I'm very happy how it turned out and I'm glad I made it.
I hope you like my work and the video.

Does anyone else find it extremely relaxing just watching the lathe work?
Yes
Im not relaxed, i make a new one
of course! i've been watched the same videos all day long and enjoy that.
Humans have been doing handiwork for way longer period of time than intelectual brainy work. So this has been programmed into our gene. Thats why we enjoy playing sports, watching/doing carpentry, machining, ...
🙋🏻♀️
Now you just have to leave it somewhere for 50 years, then come back and restore it.
AntiqueT Lol what a great comment!
AntiqueT - Haha! Good one 🤣
Providing he can remember the combination in 50 years time.
If he doesn't remember: "he make a new one"
No, he will make a new one.
I watched this three years ago when you first published it and was just blown away by your craftsmanship. I just watched it again and am just as blown away. It's like watching a watchmaker or jeweler doing exquisitely fine work.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you like it :-)

Pure jewellery. Totally agree
Wow! There's no other machinist/restorer on TH-cam that can outdo your precision or quality of work! Simply amazing!
Thank you very much, I really do appreciate it :-)
That is true his precision, cleaning and machining are super
Very good, but what about Chris from clickspring?
@@ariesmars29 -- Could you imagine if Clickspring and My Mechanics got together and collaborated on a project?? It would be epic I bet !!
Puts on paper for numbers - looks good, but not up to his usual standards
Oh, that is just for etching. Now the numbers look good - but they are little off of center. Oh well looks pretty good anyway
Add in finger grips - oh the number are frigg'n perfect now - this man is a machine
I had exactly this same experience. Thanks for saving me the trouble of describing it!

Yep, same here. We should never have doubted even for a second.

I was thinking the same exact thing.
Cool little project!! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Now he needs to send it to you and see how long it takes you to open it
@@angrypug9841 These little direct drive locks don't take long. You can just bind up the wheels and manipulate them in your hand. Especially with no anti-manipulation notches, it'll be quick.
Is this a crossover episode?
would the smal notches and the ball bearings make it easier or harder to manipulate? love your channel by the way

I'm flabbergasted at the order of operations needed to craft this.
I know. Right?

My father did an identical lock as a machinist exercise when he was young... some 60 maybe 65 years ago. He used letters instead of numbers.
Since i was a kid i've always been fascinated by that lock. I still have it.
Now I know how he made it. Thanks for this video. 🥰

In Venezuela we call "executioner" the master of an art or job my friend! Wow!
I’d like to understand the thought process that can look at a bolt and envision a combination lock. And then the way he shims the piece in the chuck so the pin will be offset! This is 3 parts aptitude, 1 part sorcery. The guy is a modern day mad scientist.
