I had alot of re doing to do not knowing that you had to layer and harden it for many layers. I eventually figured it out but this is definetly good confirmation. Peraonally I thought the product would be a bit easier to use and was a little dissapointed but like you said it's really for small gaps.
Agreed about the color black Jon & the use of Epoxy/Sawdust combo. However, if it's that bad of a defect, just toss it & get a better piece of wood for the job!
Mix a bit of baking soda and sawdust from your sander together and drop super thin starbond into it and it is natural looking, sandable and about as strong as the wood itself. Baking soda strengthens the glue as well as makes it set nearly instantly.
I just go some of this to fill some small voids in white oak table top. I put the major knots on the bottom and still filled them with epoxy which I leave till the end of the day so it gets 18 or so hours to dry before I check it for sanding. Looking forward to using the starbond tho for the small stuff over mixing tiny amounts of epoxy
Here is a TH-cam casino bet I'll take; every time Jon says "burnt amber", or Jay Bates says "babinga", I take $10, and every time they post a video, house gets a $10. It'll be a decent chunk of change in no time :)
Unrelated question - is it just me or are more and more guys using drum sanders over planers for final thicknessing/finishing? It seems like they are more prevalent these days on TH-cam, but nobody has addressed it
Try using dried coffee grounds as a filler along with the CA. Standard technique amongst woodturners.

Interesting, Jon. I still use West Systems and some fine sawdust pretty often. Some guy told me about that years ago. ;)

I wondered about using some type of CA glue because the drying time on epoxy can really slow you down. great video!

Jon, they do also make a brown. I've tried the black and agree with all your points. I'll still use epoxy for most filling.
They also make white. And their wide range of viscosities is helpful for various size gaps & cracks. Best, @HoneyOnWales

For large gaps I use bondo
What would you recommend using for larger holes/cracks?

Well.... I’ve always used A drum sander more than thickness planer mainly because most of the wood I buy is dimensional. 4/4 8/4 and such
