Has anyone conducted an alcohol test on the same sample of nurse bees after the CO2 test to compare efficacy? Due to New South Wales state government significantly cutting the Dept of Agricultures budget since 2014 varroa outbreak was not detected in Australia for months. What were the yellow strips draped over three frames on the brood box you took the samples from and what are they for? If they are for varroa treatment can you use them during a honey flow? Good video and haven't seen this method of testing for varroa. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Hi Trev, I also have this tester and have on occas6 found 1 or 2 mites, it seems to be a pretty accurate and kind method. The first time I used it I did what you did and dumped them back in the hive half asleep, then I wondered how long it actually takes for them to fully wake up. The next time I took the top and bottom lids off and just left them next to hive to wake up and leave of their own accord, it took about half an hour and their was only 1 dead bee left. I appreciate that if you are doing multiple tests you may not have the time to do that. Another nice video cheers!!
Why was there drone broode above the queen excluder? Alway funny to see your bees collecting honey, when here in Europe there is the darkest winter ;-)
Ventilated suits/jackets are heaps better than the cotton to work in. The odd spray with some water is really effective, my son won't wear the cotton to stiffling

I would love to see a true comparison between C02 and alcohol wash by using same hive samples. Which method is more accurate?

I like this method better than the alcohol wash. Does the CO2 affect the bee in other ways?
I think the shaking would be what has longer term effects on the bees sampled.
Where did you get the black deep, narrow container from for knocking the bees into?

hi, iv never kept bees would powdered sugar and freezing drones comb be effective in treating of mites without other chemicals?

Check out Randy Oliver, his experiments indicate sugar shakes are low accuracy, better than bottomboard mats though
