Great tutorial. You’re like a modern Bob Ross: you explain well, art looks great and I get relaxed watching that painting being painted. Same I had with watching Bob Ross!!! I mean that as a compliment btw :).
his stimulating voice... his talent of painting... his explaining and making it Look so easy... i am not sure if i am watching Bob Ross or James Julier
I just started working in digital art. I am still using tradition medium, and both traditional and digital art take different skill set. In do enjoy doing both.
You’ve inspired me to get a new iPad (my old one was the first generation mini) with an Apple Pencil and start drawing again! I did really well in art gcse but haven’t done any since so it’s really nice to be back at it! I’ve tried to recreate a few of your pieces from your tutorials now and I’m getting there but they’re definitely nowhere near this standard, it’s crazy how easy you make it look but how difficult it really is!
Thank you for this tutorial James. It’s incredible how much i‘ve learned by watching your videos. This is exactly what I tried to draw but it looks like crap. Now I know my mistakes and will try again. Yay 😁
Thank You sooooo much, I look forward to you lessons. I actually painted my first digital painting today,,,it was your winter tree. It turned out so nice that I am now going to try this landscape. Do you have a place where your students can share what you’ve taught them? Keep up the amazing work, you are a very fine teacher.
This was a hard one for me. 😮💨 Not enough experience with procreate and landscape painting. I will try it later again, when I got more experience and practice. Nevertheless great tutorial. 👍 I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. 😀
Can you draw Christmas and Halloween scenery? For Christmas, it is Including building, church bell, lights, birds, tree, snow, mailbox, car, and people. For Halloween, there is full moon with witch, black cat on a fence, and pumpkin every house, etc...
Thank you, and I will remind you again during that times. Also, can I have digital copy and I will donate you some money to show my appreciation because everyone artist deserves it. It will be in my artworks collection as sentimental value. Your arts captivated -T
Something that sucks is your tutorials are exactly what I need but I can’t create what you make with my Wacom pen in procreate even though they are compatible with each other and work really well with each other.
In your career, how much time do you spend ‘out in the field’ observing nature? Do you go out in the woods and sketch or paint (bring your iPad) what you are seeing. I ask because I wonder how you sit in your studio and create such a realistic scene. I’m not an artist, so I wonder how you do this.
hey there. is your patreon membership tutorials teaching step by step how to paint in procreate or is it more for other people who already know how to paint. Im a beginner and I would love to join if you vids are step by step tutorials.
All my tutorials are free here on TH-cam, my patrons support me rather than buy tutorials. There are however downloadable colour swatches and the Procreate files that match these tutorials etc.
Am I allowed to put the version I painted up in my shop? Or would you prefer I didn’t do that, since it’s based on yours from this tutorial? Totally understand if not!
I like the vids but they are really difficult to follow with the colors being all over the place even though ya put all the codes in and create the pallet they don’t match up with what your using and also the bouncing around layer to layer you can’t really follow along . I guess I get the idea to create my own but following this is bananas. 🤪
No, there's no misconception of digital art. It is full of cheats. Most people who do digital art don't do things the natural way in a digital medium like you do. They use brushes and filters and blending modes to do things for them. They don't paint their own trees, snow, clouds, leaves, grass. Most of them dont even know how or don't think it worth it. They dont pick their own colors or paint gradations they use the lasso tool and adjust the layer/brightness to get darker colors. They don't draw texture they use textured brushes and photo overlays. If you were to sit most digital artists in front of a canvas with some paint they would be able to do little to nothing.
I think that there are very few digital artists that are creating successful images in digital that couldn’t also work traditionally. The fact that most people produce digital art that is pretty poor is testament to that fact. That Dali used projectors and Vemeer used camera obscura proves that being clever is about using all the available tools at hand and not limiting yourself through a sense of self grandiosity and purism as these things are backwards looking, not creative. I think that if you have a vision worth showing then go ahead and use the most successful method of realising it. The reason I don’t use filters and brushes so much is simply because I feel they don’t look as good.
Great tutorial. You’re like a modern Bob Ross: you explain well, art looks great and I get relaxed watching that painting being painted. Same I had with watching Bob Ross!!! I mean that as a compliment btw :).
Thank you, I take it as a compliment!
I feel the same way every time I watch these videos! Much of the same talent and relaxing vibes from them! :)
Pascal Altena I. Agree with you he is certainly a example of good teaching methods
was about to say the same
his stimulating voice...

You are the bob ross - procreate 👏👍👌
So relaxing to watch. What a skill you have.

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. Nice work.

One of your best work, James. Love the illusion of details.
Thank you 🙏

Incredible! Not sure I fully understand how the layers work so a short layer tutorial would also be helpful. Thanks.

Very nice landscape painting. Can you set the brush to paint like water color?
Yes there are brushes like that

Greg Hartwick photo reference
I have spent time in the field drawing, but I definitely use more photo reference and prior knowledge
Cool!
