I think most people seem to forget one key thing. Polar bears are way more solitary in nature and would rather look elsewhere rather than fight unnecessarily (hence why they would avoid grizzlies if encountered). grizzlies on the other hand are known for their territorial behavior and aggressiveness....however that doesnt always equate that they would beat a polar bear in a fight. If i were to guess, the polar bear would probably win in a must-win fight with a grizzly
But if the lighting is just right and the night is long we get grollers and pizzlies. Which unfortunately may be the only way part if the polar bear continues on.
Male polar bears still fight when they're cubs and as they're maturing. Obviously also when they're competing for females. Definitely not as much practice as Grizzly Bears, but then again, they're animals. Instinct is overwhelming.
The grizzly and kodiak have velocoraptor type claws compared to the polar bear's little nubs. A couple of hard swipes and that polar bear will bleed out.
@@Truth_Teller_101 "velocoraptor type claw." No, not even close. That's something an actual child would say. You will never find someone with an intelligent take who uses phrases like "velocoraptor style claw."
I work in a City which operates a zoo, and one day, we were allowed a behind the scenes tour of the zoo. We went to the polar bear living and feeding space and saw it up close, and that thing was insanely big. Their paws are bigger than 1 foot. On all fours, its head probably stood at least 6 feet tall. It made a minivan look small. If you ever encounter it in the wild, you better carry a big gun and alot of bullets.
That’s what most people just don’t get. The massive size of these bears is not easy to grasp unless you are very close. We all know they are big, but knowing and truly realizing are two different things. The largest/strongest adult people are about as helpless without firearms/bear spray to bears as a toddler is to an adult person. Hopelessly incapable of defense and even experienced people with guns and bear spray can be overwhelmed by a bear. That’s the part that people really don’t get .
the reason for the saying that Polar bears are the most dangerous bear, is not that they are way stronger or better than other bears, it is meant more to the point that of all the bear species, the Polar bear is the most dangerous bear for a human to stumble on to, you can walk past a Grizzly bear in the wild, they will not attack you all the time, and the same can be said of the other bear species, but the Polar bear would not let you be, it will attack you as soon as it has the chance, it is simply a question of survival, the Polar bear lives under the hardest conditions to get food that any other bear on the planet, so they are programed to, even if they just ate, to kill you and put you away for a rainy day when they are hungry, if you were to put Grizzlies up against prey like Walroses and seal lions and Elephant seals, the would starv to death, a big Moose is a joke compared to these prey.
At the ALberta Museum in Edmonton was a polar bear specimen the size of a F-150. Certainly much larger than Grizzly specimens I saw live in the wild. However , they appear genetically to be almost identical and somehow shaped by the environment. As the environment changes polar bears are breeding with grizzlies/ Kodiak etc and becoming more like a brown bear.
Kodiaks are probably the strongest. But I've heard that the inland grizzlies are more dangerous and aggressive because they have to run down their prey and fight for their territory more often. They don't have the easy lunch buffet of river salmon to feed on at their leisure.
@@NC-1861Two incorrect statements. Kodiaks are both larger on average and stronger due to their body composition. The average male Kodiak bear is 1100 lbs and 9 feet tall. The average male polar bear is 950-1000 lbs and 8 feet tall. Polar bears are significantly more fat compared to brown bears with less muscle, due to their cold environment and their diet which consists almost exclusively of seals which are highly fat. Polar bears are slenderly built with long limbs and long flexible necks, compared to brown bears which are stockier with more muscle mass in their forelimbs and shoulders.
I'm no bear expert, but I was under the assumption that brown bears are much better wrestlers than polar bears, as yet are constantly tussling with each other, and have amazing endurance. Polar bears, being solitary creatures, are much less able in wrestling. One of the reasons why brown's bears dominate polar bears, despite the size difference. Also, brown bears are stocky AF.
They documented 137 encounters between polar bears and grizzly bears and found that polar bears reacted submissively to the grizzlies and almost always tried to avoid them.
I think it’s irrelevant the comparison of all the bears, because either way as a human, you’re gonna lose in the fight! Guaranteed! 😅 Very interesting video thank you. ❤
Polar bears and Grizzlies have been crossing paths for over 20 years due to climate change. Grizzlies are killing Polar bears most of the time. They also have been witnessed running off polar bears which seam to fear the fight. The grizzlies aggressiveness is the determining difference.
Yep, Polar Bears aren't used to dealing with other big predators so usually run away from Brown Bears. They sometimes mate and produce Pizzly bears or Grolar bears as they are called.
That Kodiak bear comparison was confusing. You said it was larger but never gave the specs of the polar Bear. You said the Kodiak has longer claws but you said thr Polar bears was sharper? You also did not compare bite force.
Exactly it's confusing because he wants to polar bear to win I happen to know that polar bears are afraid of grizzly bears and won't even fight them so it doesn't make sense for them to even remotely try to go up against a Kodiak bear which is the only thing that a Grizzly is afraid of Kodiak bears are the superior bears and they are the real deal and mean business
Many times a grizzly has encountered a Polar bear & the Polar bear backs down. A Kodiak is a Grizzly on steriods. Grizzly's are more aggressive but I think the Kodiak is the strongest bear.
Agree but in terms of strength I am not exactly sure or it may be even. You are right that a Kodiak is more robustly built but Polar go after some pretty big game themselves like 4,000 pound Walruses and subduing some of them.
Strong enough to pull a beluga whale outta the ocean & onto the sea ice . I’ve watched a big grizzly pull a massive dead moose out of a lake onto the ice . They are incredibly powerful!
@@ThouSwell-zx3fd The video specifically states at 9:38 that adult grizzly bears weigh on average 1,200 pounds - not 900. Polar bears weigh between 900 to 1700. So the grizzly is larger than some polars but smaller than the largest polars.
@@arisdelis1 It would 100%. Grizzly doesn't hunt anything like the polar bear does. They don't live in hostile territories like the polar bear does. Grizzly doesn't even try to hunt down full grown mooses, they go for the small and young ones. In fact, they rarely hunt anything at all as their main sources of food are berries and fish, not meat. Polar bear's main source of food is meat. We have footage of polar bears hunting down whales and walruses on their own. Polar bears are also known to actively hunt their own and resort to cannibalism, so they know how to kill another bear much better than a Grizzly who only resorts to cannibalism if it is starved to death. Grizzly may have longer claws, but Polar bear has more body fat, much better defense. When it comes to size, Polar bear also takes the crown in both height and weight.

The first time I saw a polar bear I was shocked at its size. Combine that with its adaptions like webbed feet, a swim bladder, and advanced problem solving skills. I think it comes out on top.
It’s been widely documented that polar bears avoid fights with Grizzly and will retreat at the sight of them. And assuming a polar bear is superior to a short faced bear is just ridiculous.
By one convention, the name of the sire comes first in such combinations: the offspring of a male polar bear and a female grizzly would be the suggested nanulak or a "pizzly bear", while the offspring of a male grizzly and a female polar bear would be a "grolar bear" or possibly an aknuk.
Polar Bears are like The T-Rexs of The Bear World they can beat all the rest. SPANISH BULL 🐂 VS A CANADIAN GREY WOLF 🐺 Respect and keep up the epic work.
You guys should delve into Ursus maritimis tyrannus. It's the ancient form of what a polar has descended from (from the mid-Pleistocene epoch) so 100,000-250,000 years ago. They appear to be a markedly larger and heavier animal.
Having large fat reserves means you have more energy stored up, but there is also a median where their massive weight matters. Long distance swimming is absolutely no problem for a polar bear however.
I have an interesting matchup... Siberian tiger vs Spanish bull in an open area(I guess the Bulls win in a closed area, and tigers are one of the best wrestlers and are known for their skill in hunting hoofed mammals)
Tigers have one of the worst success rates in their hunts. Only Jaguar is worse. Jaguar is at 5% and Tigers at 5-10%. Lions are at 27-34%, and 54% for cape buffalo Siberian Tigers are also smaller than Belgian Tigers now due to habitat loss, they lost their great size.
@@BattlerEvil a tiger's habitat usually have smaller size animals making it harder to hunt and catch whereas for a lion, there are larger slower animals for them to hunt and lions also hunt in packs compared to a tiger which is by itself.
Have you seen any of the old animal planet Animal face off series..quite the interesting show look it up I think their are some episodes on TH-cam.Lion v tiger Shark v Croc Jaguar V Gorilla..

Back in the day Spanish bulls used to fight Lions and Tigers and won pretty much all the time. These fights were in smaller arenas so the bull just charged them and gored them to death. For the big cats to stand a chance they have to get round the back and attack from the behind so yes, a larger arena would help but big cats used surprise to attack dangerous prey like Bulls, the bull will see it coming and probably win using its horns as it would in a small enclosure.
Today's generation will never get to see the Polar bear population in its prime. They used to be the undisturbed largest land carnivore, even on average.
@tylerrobbins8311 That's literally the exact opposite of the truth. The population as a whole is down compared to over a decade ago. Just because polar bears are becoming more abundant in Russia doesn't mean the population is growing worldwide. You shouldn't lie on the internet. Some idiot might believe you.
@TzeentchLordofChange they have to catch the majority of their food on land/ice. A seal, whale, penguin, etc. will all out swim them in water. Just because they can catch prey in water doesn't necessarily make them aquatic predators. However, since sea ice is fading and becoming more scarce, they have had to swim greater distances.
@@killakam3600 they catch almost nothing on land. Ice however is still part of the marine environment, that’s why biologists typically classify them as marine mammals.

And when fighting in a snow-covered battlefield, they gain +50 levels to their sneak stat. Some say a tank build with high stealth skills is the meta build for northern map exploration
Your stats on the polar bear are in correct! The largest polar bear ever shot was 11 feet tall and weighed 2200 LBS. the polar bear is displayed in a US museum. So I’m sure their are larger polar bears out there. Why doesn’t the author acknowledge this!!!!
Short faced bears have smaller bone structures than most large bears. They were lengthy but due to having smaller bones they weren’t built for power but more for scavengers. - According to a documentary on discovery channel
Once i heard the shortfaced bear was described as a "klepto-necrophage" who would steal the prey from other hunters. Appearing large could help the bear to intimidate other predators and scavengers. It's said that human bipedalism has a similar benefit
I’ve been fortunate to wrestle several types of bears. I’ve found that while polar bears might be large, they are overly sensitive, and if you say something demeaning about their mothers, you can usually pin them pretty easily.
Size doesn't always determine the outcome. The honey badger eats nuts. Aggressive willingness to risk defeat no matter what, is one of many other factors that are difficult to measure. Speculation is what's left. 🤔
The bears on the west coast enjoy a larger abundance of food from the ocean. Inland Alaskan browns and grizzlies are much more aggressive because of a tougher food search and territorial conflicts. The polar bear isn't as aggressive and would run from a grizzly in grizzly territory. Hard to say what would happen if a grizzly was in polar bear territory. But otherwise the grizzly has the edge for sure.
But are Polar Bears stronger than a Sea Bear? They get really angry if you wear a sombrero in a funny way! Squidward found out about that the hard way!
On average, yes, due to their struggles to find food. Back when Polar bears were thriving in their habitat, they easily grew larger than any other bear. They still have the ability to grow larger than Kodiak bears, but nowadays, the average Polar bear is underfed, so it's rare to see.
They are not, not even close the largest example of Kodiaks are compared to average polar bears for a reason. A male polar bear weighs on average 1700lbs in the wild. The largest polar bear on record was well over 2000lbs in the wild.
My father worked for over 25 years on the North Slope and no other animal is the hunter of men like a Polar Bear. Never go anywhere along and always be armed with high-caliber weapons.
According to Guinness, the heaviest polar bear ever documented was shot in Alaska in 1960. It weighed 2,209 lbs, stood nearly 12 feet tall, and was displayed at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. This bear would kill any other bear by far! The largest Kodiak bear ever shot doesn’t even come close!

Like Tiger
They can be bigger. At least 9.8 ft
That’s the part that people really don’t get .

is better don't go there and don't kill these beautiful bears. It's not fair use weapons
the reason for the saying that Polar bears are the most dangerous bear, is not that they are way stronger or better than other bears, it is meant more to the point that of all the bear species, the Polar bear is the most dangerous bear for a human to stumble on to, you can walk past a Grizzly bear in the wild, they will not attack you all the time, and the same can be said of the other bear species, but the Polar bear would not let you be, it will attack you as soon as it has the chance, it is simply a question of survival, the Polar bear lives under the hardest conditions to get food that any other bear on the planet, so they are programed to, even if they just ate, to kill you and put you away for a rainy day when they are hungry, if you were to put Grizzlies up against prey like Walroses and seal lions and Elephant seals, the would starv to death, a big Moose is a joke compared to these prey.

Kodiaks are massive with gigantic craniums. And there's way more muscle on a Kodiak bear's body which makes it more powerful than a polar bear.
Kodiaks are probably the strongest. But I've heard that the inland grizzlies are more dangerous and aggressive because they have to run down their prey and fight for their territory more often. They don't have the easy lunch buffet of river salmon to feed on at their leisure.
Kodiak bears are NOT more powerful than a Polar Bear lmao. Nor are they bigger.
@Urusovite yep, kodiaks are so chill, they dont even really hold territories because theres no point in fighting over food due to abundance

Yet, I have read that in actual confrontations between Grizzlies and polar bears, the grizzly comes out on top.
Confrontations are not to be relied upon to determine the outcome of a physical fight.

It would 100%.

You guys should delve into Ursus maritimis tyrannus. It's the ancient form of what a polar has descended from (from the mid-Pleistocene epoch) so 100,000-250,000 years ago. They appear to be a markedly larger and heavier animal.
Even the bear saying knows how strong polar bears are
“If it’s white, say goodnight”
One problem with the polar bear: they tire easily because of their adaptation to cold environment. This would give the Kodiak more of an advantage.
If a Polar Bear can swim for 17 hours at a time they don’t tire easily
@@lakevacm polar bears get tired out quickly on land
Having large fat reserves means you have more energy stored up, but there is also a median where their massive weight matters. Long distance swimming is absolutely no problem for a polar bear however.
Additionally, Polar bears are the only bears that are actual hunters.
Lions are at 27-34%, and 54% for cape buffalo
Siberian Tigers are also smaller than Belgian Tigers now due to habitat loss, they lost their great size.
@@BattlerEvil a tiger's habitat usually have smaller size animals making it harder to hunt and catch whereas for a lion, there are larger slower animals for them to hunt and lions also hunt in packs compared to a tiger which is by itself.

@@BattlerEvil I'm not talking about success rates here...
what I mean is tigers can solo hunt big games unlike lions...
and a tiger will either ambush or wrestle...
success rate doesn't define how powerful a predator is...
lions use coordinated attacks with larger more sluggish prey compared to tigers who goes for deer and boars...tigers hunting cattles and buffaloes are more successful
Despite all their advantages, polar bears will often retreat from grizzly bears.

Just because polar bears are becoming more abundant in Russia doesn't mean the population is growing worldwide. You shouldn't lie on the internet. Some idiot might believe you.
they arent really a land carnivore, they are an aquatic predator
@TzeentchLordofChange they have to catch the majority of their food on land/ice. A seal, whale, penguin, etc. will all out swim them in water. Just because they can catch prey in water doesn't necessarily make them aquatic predators. However, since sea ice is fading and becoming more scarce, they have had to swim greater distances.
@@killakam3600 they catch almost nothing on land. Ice however is still part of the marine environment, that’s why biologists typically classify them as marine mammals.
The weakness of Polar Bears is that they melt in the sun. It’s related to the issues of Vampires crumbling and Trolls petrifying but has its’ own unique expression …
I don’t think the short-faced bear is a direct ancestor of the polar bear. It’s more like an extinct cousin species.

Short faced bears have smaller bone structures than most large bears. They were lengthy but due to having smaller bones they weren’t built for power but more for scavengers.

Once i heard the shortfaced bear was described as a "klepto-necrophage" who would steal the prey from other hunters. Appearing large could help the bear to intimidate other predators and scavengers. It's said that human bipedalism has a similar benefit
Sloth bears are so underrated. They are not that smaller but just leaner. And they are actually adapted for Brutal fights against tigers.
I’ve been fortunate to wrestle several types of bears. I’ve found that while polar bears might be large, they are overly sensitive, and if you say something demeaning about their mothers, you can usually pin them pretty easily.
