    Awesome tutorials! Short and concise!! How do I allow traffic between certain VLANS? For example, I'll be setting up a VLAN specifically for our finance team, but they need to be able to access the VLAN that has the printers. The internal general VLAN will also need to be able to access the printers VLAN but should not be able to communicate with the Finance VLAN. Makes sense? Thank you!

      All the traffic VLANs are allowed by default. This firewall configuration to restrict traffic is not included in this section. To configure firewall rules, you should go to Security & SD-WAN > Firewall.
      You can watch my video on how to block and allow interesting traffic between VLANs.

    Hi Joanne, may I know if the same configurations you demonstrated in this video can also be applied in the Cisco Meraki-Go Firewall Plus GX50 Device? Appreciate your advice. Thanks!

    Great video. I would love it if you could do a video on DHCP Relay using the MX device for environments that have an existing DHCP server, whether using Win. Server 2012, 2016, or 2019.

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Vigilant-Citicen,
      To add another DHCP, you only need to add the IP address to the DHCP Relay section in the MX.
      th-cam.com/video/ZlYY-BDOS5I/w-d-xo.html
      This video can help you to configure it.

      The IT Way okay. I have attempted to add our DHCP server for relay. I received an error message that stated my DHCP servers address (10.1.10.2) was not in the same subnet as the VLAN I attempted to use (10.107.1.0/24). What VLAN IP scheme would you suggest I use to configure my DHCP server for rely? Thank you in advance!

    Thank you! Is it the all-in-one meraki appliance?
    Do you have a video on how to setup firewall rules and routing with new vlans in mind?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Zigbaligb,
      Yes, Cisco Meraki has Security Appliances which you can call it "all-in-one". You can watch the playlist on how to configure the main features of Cisco Meraki devices in the link below.
      th-cam.com/play/PLPE44QtHLnZTx012H3BlMJycIIFWvYUXz.html
      Additionally, you can find the video for firewall rules configuration in the link below.
      th-cam.com/video/z48Lo2lvnzo/w-d-xo.html
      I hoe that helps you.

    Hello- I am getting: VLAN subnet X.X.X.X/31 is too small; the subnet must contain at least four IPs ("/30" or larger), since two are reserved for the network and broadcast addresses.

    Hello, Thank you for vedio, but i wonder if is it possible to have to Native VLAN in one network?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can have as many VLANs as you can in the Addressing and VLANs section. If you would like to configure a Native VLAN in one of the ports you can do so in the per-port VLAN settings at the end of the page.
      More information on how to configure the native VLAN can be found here:
      documentation.meraki.com/MX/Networks_and_Routing/MX_Addressing_and_VLANs#Per-port_VLAN_Settings
      Let me know if you need any additional clarification

    is it possible to allow vlan access on a Meraki AP without MX?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the APs have their own firewall settings to allow or deny access to different VLANs

    Can you tag Vlan on WAN port or how do you create custom Wan port with VLAN...Is this possible with Meraki Mx 84?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  ปีที่แล้ว

      The WAN ports are not configurable in the Addressing and VLANs section. You can either go to the status page or the local configuration page to make those changes.

    I have a need for a VLAN with no internet connectivity except I’d like to be able to VPN in and connect to a device on that VLAN. Is there a good way to configure that?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Fizzmonster3,
      In order to do that, you can watch the video regarding Firewall rules and use it to configure the firewall rules you need for your implementation.
      You can watch the video here:

    Just wondering how do you connect vlan1 as wired 10.0/24 to vlan2 as wireless 20.0/24?
    Hope u notice me
    thanks

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello @Ron,
      After you create the VLANs, you can assign the ports to the respective one. For example, if you are going to connect the AP in port 3, you can configure that port as Access and assign VLAN 2. For the ports that will be used for wired clients, you can assign them to use VLAN 1.
      In any case you will use a port to connect a switch that will have both VLANs, you can configure as Trunk and allow both VLANs.

    Hi, do you know why in my meraki dash board, I don't have Security & SD-WAN?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello @Kong,
      If you do not have a Security Appliance, you will not have that option. You can see in the left side of the webpage which devices you have. Depending on that, you will have different configuration options.

    How do you know what IP addresses to use for each VLAN?

  • @CV-rw6os
    @CV-rw6os 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello, I have a stage and I hope you can help me
    I have a few Meraki APs at home and they are connected to my internet modem and they are configured in NAT mode.
    Now I am going to add an MX between my internet modem and the AP's, I am going to create a vlan which will tag the SSID that is created (for this I am going to change from NAT mode to Bridge mode)
    Other than that, there is some additional config that needs to be done

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello @Carlos,
      It is great that you are increasing your Meraki gear!
      You can configure your MX as shown in the video and set the VLAN you would like to use. After that, you can set the port where the AP will be connected to Access and assign the VLAN.
      After that, you just need to connect the AP and it will get an IP address if the DHCP is enabled. If you would like to know more how to config DHCP in the MX, you can watch this video.

    Sir..We are using MX64 with out wireless model,Already configure single VLAN,When i apply policy, it is applying only default when i assign in Single device (Just go to device -select Client -Policy-Group policy).
    Can i get your Email ID also?

    • @TheITWay
      @TheITWay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Anil,
      If you would like to create a group policy and apply to the entire VLAN, you should assign that group policy to the VLAN in the Addressing and VLANs section, not to the client directly.
      If you want to apply to a single device and it is not working, you should then troubleshoot accordingly:
      - Check if the behavior happens to all the clients applied to that policy
      - Check if the behavior changes with different devices
      - Create a new policy and make different changes and apply to see any difference
      - Take pcaps and follow the traffic
      My email is info@theitway.net

    not sure what I'm doing wrong with our new MX84, I have configured mine as
    VLAN1 = 10.1.1.0/24, native Trunk, dhcp on, Allow VLAN ALL
    VLAN2 = 10.1.2.0/24, native Trunk, dhcp on, Allow VLAN ALL
    and as a test I connected two PCs to each port and try to ping each other, all i get is "Request timed out"

      Hello S H,
      It is hard for me to help you on this case since I am not seeing your configuration or analyzing the pcaps while you are sending the packets. If you would want me to help you, feel free to send screenshots of the configuration and a pcap of the traffic to the email below.

      To reserved an IP for devices on the LAN, you can go to Security Appliance > DHCP. you can find more information on how to do it in the link below.
