Me too! I think I remember there being a fishing tackle shop across the street from the A&W. I used to buy candy there when I was 7-8 years old. 25 years ago.
Damn if not for I-380, Cedar Rapids would have been completely impassable from east to west. I guess you could say I-380 was the bridge over troubled water here.
I was 21 at the time, this seriously was iowas katrina...I helped in Louisiana after Katrina, looked pretty much the same as cedar rapids...I helped gut Taylor school and then drove a pumper truck around cleaning the porta pottys...I went down to Oakville to pickup some toilets when our contract was ending and it looked like a bomb went off there
Lost our house to. We wanted to rebuild but since the house was 6 inches into the 100 year plane they considered the whole lot 100 year and we would have had to get rid of our basement. We had a huge backyard enough to move the house to the other side but city said no so we had to let them buy the house out and move. Fuck the city. That was a good neighborhood.
I pumped out the United Fire & casualty building downtown, led crews of 100-125 people in full PPE tearing out sewage in four buildings sixteen hours a day seven days a week in summer heat. Thanks to whoever bought me & my buddy lunch at Wendy’s one day, we’re from Chicago. Spent my 40th at Dancers.
What was CR like before the floors hit where were you what were you doing when they hit I was in Des Moines IA I wasn't here when they hit I saw it on TV Kim
I was a toddler but I still remember it. I remember walking to preschool with it down pouring and up to my knees I was wearing jeans and everyone was drying off inside I remember it like it was yesterday.
My first time seeing this. I am crying, remembering the horrible damage but even more, the wonderful people who helped us! Awesome video!!
I miss A&W. I used to live a walking distance from Ellis Park and A&W.

I was 5 at the time but I remember walking around to inspect the town with my mom and dad and I saw people in boats sitting outside of their homes.
