Interior of Westdale Mall while it was open. Westdale Mall opened on October 4, 1979 & closed on March 24, 2014. Formerly located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
This was one of the best malls in Iowa in its heyday. Too bad it didn't get updated like Lindale did. The opening of Coral Ridge Mall 20 miles down the road was the final nail in the coffin for the "old" Westdale. The decline of many regional enclosed malls, and the redevelopment of some of them (including Westdale) into open-air "town centers", had made me feel nostalgic for Lindale in the 1970's, when it was an open-air mall.
I worked as a custodian for Linn County while they were in the old Montgomery Ward. Walking through the back hallways was interesting, but finding the hidden deli, that was fun.
My childhood ! So sad its gone !

So glad you saved this for history.
NEVER FORGET !!!
I remember around the holidays that place used to be so packed you could hardly walk through it.

What was the name of the Chinese Restaurant? 1:39
China Cafe.
And everybody I run into thinks that Chick-fil-A is something new. Had it since I was a kid at Westdale Mall.
I miss this place.
Sam goodys, osco. Love it
Amazing! Thanks!
Remember being so packed you could barley move in the mall and 2nd floor would shake from so many people walking
Great video. Do you know the date this was taken? Judging by the stores I know (the arcade is closed but the GAP is open) I would guess 2001.
at around 0:56 you can hear don't tell me by Madonna playing in the background, which was released in 2000. So I guess you are pretty close with 2001.
Rip
Back when it was just beginning to loose out on shoppers. When Spencer's pulled out, that was the end.
Sears should have put a store in the Montgomery Wards space when they went out of business.
