I've been watching his comedy/magic for a long time, & this is the earliest of his work I have ever seen. Truly Amazing - so sad that he's gone. "Have we done this yet? Ok, we'll do it now."
For some of the best Amazing Johnathan search for Hey Hey it's Saturday, it's an Aussie light entertainment show from the 90's, AJ did quite a few acts with them and the audience is great.
The same could have been said for Otto and George. The beauty of the act though is sometimes in the totally-oblivious crowd. It's just seeing the horrified reactions of people who have NO idea what they're in for. In many ways, it's both very traditional and very unique.
Damn, i had no idea he'd been doing this for that long, I've only seen the "Just for Laughs" one from '95 and one from a year later I think. This is......amazing!
His act has changed substantially. It takes years to refine a professional caliber act, and this guy is among the top comedic magicians in the world. The basic outline may be the same, but he's refined the details to an incredible degree. It annoys me so much that people are disappointed with one act that develops over the years. Acts of genius don't often happen spontaneously. I've been doing the same few routines for years, and I have a long time to go before I'm as polished as him.
This is from one of my all time favorite comedy specials. I just re-acquired a copy of this, and it is still funny. And the 80's clothes rule! rock on, Jonathan!
His show in vegas was one of the funniest Ive ever seen. I was crying with laughter, and it takes a lot for me to laugh. This is his older stuff, his showmanship was honed and he really was a master of his craft by the time I saw him in Vegas. I wish there were more magic comics.
the reason why he is so great is that he isnt like any other magician. way better than carrot top and he knows he isnt the greats magician or comedian in the world but he combines the two. Making the perfect combination
There are plenty of funny magicians around, and have been around since the 70's and 80's. So you are talking shit. Oh and they were much better at it too than this guy.
Wow, I just said that to myself as I read your post. I never really thought of that joke before, I always go for the "guy who killed me parents", "don't listen to him howard, he's crazy" and "ahh drinking red wine tonight, howard?"
omg, he looks so different back then. He put on weight and actually looks better now with the wieght on than he does in this video. He got funny too over the years and is way better at his stuff than he was back when this was filmed. Still pretty cool to see him when he was this young.
As Peter Lorre said in Arsenic and Old Lace... "My how you've changed"... To look at him now you wouldn't think it was the same guy... And RIP to one of my idols, John Candy. We fat guys can get it done.
His appearance has changed so much since 1983 (as would most peoples I guess). If you would like to, check out his Comedy Central Presents performance in my channel for a comparison.
Wow, I just watched his Comedy Central special, and he looks and sounds completly different. He seems a bit more wacked these days, whereas this was more controlled. I like this, though.
does anyone know where i can get a clip of when he had the magic dust/powder he'd use and randomely sniff as if it was coke? thats when i first saw him on tv, but that was a long time ago.
i saw a little hint on how he was doing it while watching this clip does part of it in vole two sticks at the top of the cloth. and also he does some of the same dang tricks he dose now.
The fact that he even had a chance for the legend John Candy to introduce him is a amazing honor! Forever fans of them both ❤️

his act hasn't changed any over the years has it? still funny as hell every time I see it

2024 and just seeing clips of johnothan amazing THINK HES GREAT
Damn, i had no idea he'd been doing this for that long, I've only seen the "Just for Laughs" one from '95 and one from a year later I think. This is......amazing!
What that man could get away with... Simply, well, AMAZING!
Two of the greatest John's to ever be on a stage. Great video. Musta been great to meet Mr. Candy.. another comedy genius.
I absolutely LOVE the uniqueness of his comic magician style. Has only gotten more and more refined over the years. Hilarious as always!
Thank you Amazing Johnathon for making me smile. Don't usually do that. But there's an innocence to what you do.
Now I see why he’s amazing Jonathan
Wow.. that's insane- I've never seen him w/that look before! Cool to see him so early on, and w/John Candy no less!

To be announced by John Candy must have been a real honor. Even more so after his passing.
God I miss John Candy
idius11 first thing i said to myself. Summer Rental was on a few weeks ago. I felt so old.
Why? Did you know him? No? Well I am sure you don't actually miss him at all.
This is from one of my all time favorite comedy specials. I just re-acquired a copy of this, and it is still funny. And the 80's clothes rule! rock on, Jonathan!
you know what they say, You can't beat the classics.
its just like magic, never gets old...
it's amazing, he still had that deranged look in his eyes way back then
Lol! He still makes me laugh. I got to see him live and he did the zombie ball, I lol'd HARD!

Whatever the fuck that means??
Miss you John Candy! I wish Johnathan still did magic.. :'(
So.... no matter how many times i see his act... i still laugh
John Candy was an amazing actor and comedian. I hate getting old you see so many amazing people die
and it's so sad the Amazing Johnathan isn't with us any more, either...
Wow, I just said that to myself as I read your post. I never really thought of that joke before, I always go for the "guy who killed me parents", "don't listen to him howard, he's crazy" and "ahh drinking red wine tonight, howard?"
Wow... He had hair. I wouldn't think that act could make anybody a star, but that just proved me wrong. He is AMAZING after all!
It's from HBO's Young Comedians Special. I remember seeing this when I was a teenager.
that's why he's amazing he has been able to get away with the same act for over twenty years.
I still love to watch him though
amazing someone could last 20 yrs with the same routine
i like his performances ;)
In his youthful times, and beginnings of a purely funny comedian using magic as his topic of choice.
2019 Yo
I saw him live in Vegas in 2004. He was awesome. May he RIP
damn that last trick was pretty damn good
Evidently Johnathat hasn`t changed his act very much in almost thirty years . He does all the same stuff in his specials for Comedy Central .
i actually have this entire TV episode on VHS
What's a vhs
VHS lol!!! And you brag about that?
I doubt it.
"You look alot like the guy that killed my parents Howard. Just kidding I killed them"
omg, he looks so different back then. He put on weight and actually looks better now with the wieght on than he does in this video. He got funny too over the years and is way better at his stuff than he was back when this was filmed. Still pretty cool to see him when he was this young.
Does anyone know what Candy says in response to “how amazing is he?”
I still love his acts. Lol.
Brilliant...
Holy shit! He's been using the same jokes so long, but they're still so good! =D
"Pretty damn spooky isnt it howard" ha ha his eyes are funny as
woah, he looks so diffferent. granted, its 1983, but still...wow!
this guy's awesome and has just gotten better :)
Hilarious!! I remember the old days!
2018 and still funny!
1983 and he STILL hasn't come up with new material. Sad.
that is so true dude....he needs new tricks you can never watch him twice it will bore you to death.
As Peter Lorre said in Arsenic and Old Lace...
"My how you've changed"...
To look at him now you wouldn't think it was the same guy...
And RIP to one of my idols, John Candy. We fat guys can get it done.
I want this guy to perform at my wedding. x3
You could probably book him for just a few dollars, cos he is shit. Hope everyone at your wedding is drunk to enjoy the show.
Every time I see any stand up or music video from the '80s, I also wonder at what a helluva drug cocaine is.
Epic Win does not age.
Always entertaining
Damn, you're right
Lol Howard is the dude he still travels with, same act for the most part but its awesome to see hes been doing that for awhile
still watching this is 2012. still as funny
Do za 2017 here
still watching in 2018
Watched this 2018 and wasted 8 mins of my life!
Wow he's changed soooo much, but even though he does the same thing over and over its still so funny.
whoa, he looks hella different!
i bet this was great back when everyone in the room was on blow
good one
His appearance has changed so much since 1983 (as would most peoples I guess). If you would like to, check out his Comedy Central Presents performance in my channel for a comparison.
Wow in 83 I was -4 haha
Wow, he looks so different
holy crap in 83 i was not even thought about yet. Look how skinny and weird he looks lol but still halarious
Wow, I just watched his Comedy Central special, and he looks and sounds completly different. He seems a bit more wacked these days, whereas this was more controlled. I like this, though.
whoa, his act is still funny after all these years?
he looks just like my dad did then and now
He is hilarious
25 years and he does the same thing....but fuck its funny as hell
That volunteer from the audience "Howard" looks alot like the volunteer from Johnathan's Comedy Central special o.O
haha wierd, I basically thought that at one point watching the clip too haha
does anyone know where i can get a clip of when he had the magic dust/powder he'd use and randomely sniff as if it was coke? thats when i first saw him on tv, but that was a long time ago.
poor johnathan and his battle with the buffet line
He looks more awesome now as a big guy.
Wow, the years were not kind, my friend!
i saw a little hint on how he was doing it while watching this clip does part of it in vole two sticks at the top of the cloth. and also he does some of the same dang tricks he dose now.
who's watching this in 2016
my sympathies.
he is right though. I've never seent his one before, but I've seen the tricks. They're good. They're damn good, but some fresh stuff can't hurt
rip john candy!
no head band?
Wow. Back in the day he looked like he was related to Chris Jericho ^_^
1983? I was just a year old... depending on the month.
i think the latest comedy central specials have got to be his son.
aww, it's the same act since 1983 XD
Apparently it pays the bills
My god! He does the same stuff he did 20 years ago! XD
Ok, 2018. Still funny.
look! they can still smoke inside
He used to look like Alan Tudyk (Wash from "Firefly")...
@Tundragrass It's called getting older. LOL. Happens to most of us.
The zombie ball is a really simple rudimentary trick, it just takes some practice with the wire. I guess he was young in his career then
I wonder if he does the same things when he's being recorded and keeps most of his tricks just for the live shows. Has anyone seen him live?
he;'s so fit here :D and slim
Somebody PLEASE tell me how to do the trick at 2:56. It looks so cool!
@cazooooooo
hahaha, what does that even mean?! Magician's hands. Hilarious.
...This was 24 years ago...what do you think?
lol you can see him turning something on and off on the metal ball trick.
Does anyone know the name of the trick deck of cards he uses in the beginning ? Thanks
