The cuffs above the boot are actually his spats! They're a separate cloth piece that protects/covers the ankle. I only know this because I started a Fett costume build.
Great review. The Jedi version is what I think of when I think of Fett, it's his blaster rifle there that really sticks in my mind. Your posed shots at the end really bring the figure to life... got to get this one.
Love posing my ESB Boba. Am always looking at movie promo pics for reference, as the paint, sculpt and dimensions are almost spot on. I agree with your comments: the darker green applied on the ESB version to the gauntlets and jet pack, give a more uniform, military look. But I love the grooved handguard on his EE-3 rifle, the more greyish colour of his flight suit, the better placed pouches and pockets around his waist and his gauntlets design from ROTJ. Thanks for another great review.
I appreciate it! Yeah, the belt and pouch placement on the ROTJ Fett is much more action figure friendly, it allows for less restricted movement at the hips. And like I said, I'll flip-flop daily on my favorite. Throwm something new and shiny at me and I'm happy for hours, heh.
Mine is finally on it's way. I prefer the Empire version, prefer the colors, plus Fett is far more scheming and threatening in that film, he was partying way too hard at Jabbas and we know what happened. But it's about time we had a Jedi Fett.

You should be happy. I've from others about the jetpack booster breaking at the swivel, and then the range finder is not loose on all of them. Watch out for those. And it only being pushed a month instead of the usual three made me happy too.

It was a tough call to select between ROTJ and ESB version, but I've gone with ESB. Even if I miss the colored backpack, the wine red gauntlets and the cooled rifle that gives Mr. Fett a more rogue like appear, the armor chipping and some details weren't my like. ... In my dream, they make a mixed version ^^
What sucks with Medicom is the QC issues. As soon as I got my ROTJ Mafex Fett out of his box, his arm popped off due to bad glue. I moved his leg forward and one of his pouches popped off, again due to bad glue. He was standing perfectly still with his flight stand and suddenly fell over, and the tip of his jet pack, the missile, broke off. I was so disappointed. I pre-ordered this guy days after he was announced and this is what I got. My RAH Fett is close to perfect though, and I love him so much. My only complaint is the loose trigger finger hand and the bad glue that was holding the cape, but I can tuck it into his armor with no trouble so I guess I have the option to display him without his cape now. So strange that the same company made the two figures.
I already have the RAH 1/6 ROTJ Boba, and he's technically inaccurate since he has the battle-damage of ESB Fett but the color scheme of ROTJ Fett. I knew that when buying him though, and it gave me more incentive to purchase him as I always preferred the colors of ROTJ Fett, yet always digged the battle-damage of ESB Fett more. I thought it was a bit strange that they changed his entire suit's battle-damage layout instead of adding some more onto the first one. So in conclusion, the RAH 1/6 ROTJ Boba is my ideal and perfect Fett figure as of now (I don't have the Hot Toys one because of the off helmet and body shape, as well as the fact that it costs almost $100 more, I got the RAH one for $145). Ordered this Mafex one a few months ago, he should arrive soon. This video brought my hopes up, so thank you very much
I couldn't help myself. I went and bought both Fetts in one fell swoop this past weekend. I don't even like Jedi Fett all that much normally - too colorful - but they did such a great job!
Reminds me of the TVC Lightsaber Construction Jedi Luke that had his hair reversed, presumably because they used the hologram of Luke speaking to Jabba as a reference, which is actually flipped in the movie.

I find it odd that they released these back to back. I do understand that the Empire one was delayed, but...kinda feel like it's shooting themselves in the foot sale- wise. Time in between makes you want both, too soon and it leaves you to choose.
Ultrazilla Toys Yeah, you're right, I didn't even think of that. If the ROTJ hadn't been pushed back the month that it did they both would have released at the exact same time. Hindsight, I think they should have released ROTJ with no ESB announced. They would still been the first company to release a ROTJ, everyone would have bought it. Then announce a ESB version and people would have flocked to that to replace their existing ESB Fetts, based on the quality of the ROTJ.
Robo's reviews are my fav. other sites get so caught up in articulation as the first thing that it drives me nuts. Robo focuses in on the sculpt first - way to go

My boba fett range founder as you call it is not lose and actually firm pointing upwards. However my boba fett shoulder pat snapped off and the right arm comes out easily

Yeah, but look at this way: at least it is movie accurate, as Jeremy Bullock was limited in his arm in and waist movement during the production of ESB and ROTJ. Maybe not be the best "action figure" in terms of robustness and articulation, but in terms of movie accuracy and a centrepiece figure it is amazing. The colour, paint apps (the 7 and tear symbol on my ESB figure are perfectly placed) and the proportions - an area where S.H Figuarts seem to fail - are almost a perfect representation of the movies. If that is what you are look for in a figure, then this is a must!
I've heard mixed bag on the Wonder Woman. After the Superman I couldn't get any more DC figures, and I can't afford it anyway with all of this Star Wars hitting now, haha.

Both of the Boba Fetts are excellent figures. Like I said, figure of the year for me. But with them still dropping the ball on other properties I still worry about future Star Wars releases.
Iended up cancelling the C-3PO/BB-8 pack, these Fetts have instilled a lot of faith but I just couldn't relive that heartbreak from the first C-3PO, no matter how awesome the R2-D2 was.

What? That's crazy! I had three packages bottleneck in Chicago this week and all arrived at my house at the same time when they left Japan two or three days apart, but I haven't seen a huge delay. Did you order SAL or a slower method?
I tend to do most of my purchases via ebay and usually Japan to Edinburgh is not bad on International Economy. Did just get stung by a guy in the US who took a pre-order from me for a full box of X-men Marvel Legends and hasn't delivered. I'm totally bummed :-(
Haha, funny story: I ordered what I thought to be the Return o/t Jedi version because I already have the BS ESB version. Two weeks ago he arrived to my great surprise because I thought i was the very first one to get it. Of course, I got the ESB version instead, my bad while ordering apparently. Turned out that the Mafett is a wonderful figure so no harm done. Won't be buying this one just for the few differences cause i'm not made of money.

Oh man, toughie. You know, I would probably pass. I've passed on most of their troopers because of the model kits and Black Series, this MAFEX is so good I really don't see Bandai beating it. Hell, it makes me want a MAFEX Jango now since I really don't like the SHF one. Of course I'm saying that with no SHF Boba in sight. I'll admit I'm a dirty liar when it comes to passing on figures.
So I am perfectly happy with my model kit Boba (which I lovingly painted with all battle damage and wear) but I want a Boba I can pose around on my desk... should I get this RotJ version to spice things up or the Empire version? I love the Empire version and in my mind that is the iconic look for Boba but should I get the other one? I am thinking the model kit would look cool alongside the red bracer Jedi version.... oh so many options almost breaking down and getting both
It you're perfectly happy with the model you can keep it as the ESB version and get the ROTJ MAFEX just to have a different version. But I'll warn ya, once you put them side by side you'll more than likely want the ESB MAFEX too. I was completely happy with the model kit before these hit, and now it's the only model that has been moved to the exile shelf.
That is what I was afraid of...I found them in a japanese site for 42 bucks each and I am about to break...why couldnt figuarts come with Boba instead of Jango?
You just reminded me that I didn't even look at the flight stand, I always forget about those. For the pic I did the clip was tight enough that I just pinched the jetpack in it. I think it's supposed to slip around the waist but there is so much stuff hanging on the belt it makes it awkward.
Oh, yeah. That'd work. Would you recommend leaving it clipped on the jetpack for a longer period of time? No longer than a day or two since I'm always taking it down and taking pictures of it.
The Fwoosh Yo Sabine when is like Boba fett and Jango fett but a female. SHE has same style HELMET as Boba and Jango and duel pistol s like Jango SHE is awesome.
Just grabbed this guy off of eBay for MSRP. I would have preferred the ESB version to go with my Black Series Bounty Hunters, but his price is ridiculous now. Luckily, they're similar enough, even if it will always bug me a bit. It's a big step up from the Black Series Fett, anyway.
I agree with you I like the empire better, when you stand them both next to each other sideways you can even see quite a bit of difference & (IMO)the empire Version Looks Better..(JMO) thanks Robo!.

Hey, how about you bash a figure for a change, instead of tempting me to frther thin the contents of my wallet? Haha, those Fetts sure look tremendous. I can even forgive them the shoulder pad attached to the torso. It looks good this way, movie accurate, and really, due to its shape doesnt get in the way so much. Those two figures are so good sculpt-wise, that I hope mafex releaes two versions of Jango Fett at some point as well (for what I know, the jumpsuit has different color on Kamino and Geonosis, and jetpacks are different too - on kamino he uses pretty much the same looking one as the RotJ Boba). Mafex is certainly giving sh figuarts run for their money with current releases (and frankly some shf has been rather disappointing recantly). Now I am impateintly waiting for Rogue One Vader, which seems like first good looking 6 inch figure of the Dark Lord. Finally, after all those years, we might get first decent figure of that character.
Hey now, I bashed on the SHF Jango, and now you go and make me want a MAFEX Jango or two? Yeah, I'd take both there. Given delays I don't think I can wait 10 months for the Vader.
All the special edition changes to boba have always bothered me. For example, in a new hope, boba shows up at docking bay 94 with jabba, wearing his ROTJ outfit, when he should clearly be wearing the ESB armor. The in-continuity continues to annoy me, but thanks for pointing that out Robo! 👍
General_Atheis Oh yeah, that bugs the hell out of me too. Unless he changes outfits back forth season to season. This is winter armor, this is summer armor. On top of that in the ANH:SE the shoulder pads are reversed. I can see that being an homage to the flipped footage from Jedi but I don't like it. Perfect world, the A New Hope appearance should have been the pre-production armor with the yellow left gauntlet, brown gloves, and helmet eyes. That would have established a continuity and another version to sell us in toy form.
The Fwoosh Ive never thought of his outfits that way, as sort of interchangeable. But oh what I would give for a Pre Production Fett. I've always loved that version, and you're so right. In a perfect world that would be it. I couldn't agree more.
General_Atheis The pre-production suit gives me that vintage figure vibe, especially the yellow gauntlet, and that makes me think of playing with it in the floor as a kid, and that makes me happy. Almost happy enough to order another Fett and try to paint it up but I'd much rather some company make an official one, haha.
Why is Boba so expensive? He looks great, but not $50+ great. Neca does work on par, if not better than Mafex and they only go for about $20-$25. Is it just because it's foreign?

I personally like this one better cause Disney confirmed boba is still alive so you can go a long way with this figure.
But if he appears in a movie now I guarantee he won't be wearing this uniform. It'll be something new and changed up in order to sell more toys.

also for the record my ESB Boba also had a loose range finder. I think it's just a quirk of their manufacturing process.

try some pledge surface wax on the loose antenna it works really well.

As of today they haven't been delayed. But it wouldn't surprise me if they end up being pushed back. Four figures dropping at the same time and the recent history of everything being pushed.
I have the MAFEX Empire Fett version and was content.....Now after seeing your excellent review The Fwoosh....I have no choice but to purchase the Jedi Fett. Ugh why The Fwoosh why! Joking aside thank you.

I've been a little let down by some of the recent MAFEX figs like the Batman and Spiderman but this one may win me back.
Both of the Boba Fetts are excellent figures. Like I said, figure of the year for me. But with them still dropping the ball on other properties I still worry about future Star Wars releases.
this is the best boba fett 1/12 so far i think, if they added the human headsculpt and real fabric with wire for the cape i will give him 10/10 :)

Iended up cancelling the C-3PO/BB-8 pack, these Fetts have instilled a lot of faith but I just couldn't relive that heartbreak from the first C-3PO, no matter how awesome the R2-D2 was.

What? That's crazy! I had three packages bottleneck in Chicago this week and all arrived at my house at the same time when they left Japan two or three days apart, but I haven't seen a huge delay. Did you order SAL or a slower method?
I tend to do most of my purchases via ebay and usually Japan to Edinburgh is not bad on International Economy. Did just get stung by a guy in the US who took a pre-order from me for a full box of X-men Marvel Legends and hasn't delivered. I'm totally bummed :-(

Haha, funny story: I ordered what I thought to be the Return o/t Jedi version because I already have the BS ESB version. Two weeks ago he arrived to my great surprise because I thought i was the very first one to get it.
Of course, I got the ESB version instead, my bad while ordering apparently. Turned out that the Mafett is a wonderful figure so no harm done. Won't be buying this one just for the few differences cause i'm not made of money.
I hear ya, my money tree has yet to produce anything wroth a damn. But you're good, the MAFEX ESB is so much better than the BS it's not even funny. The ROTJ is amazing but I still drift back to the ESB when I'm staring at the shelf. Not that I stare at the shelf...

Oh man, toughie. You know, I would probably pass. I've passed on most of their troopers because of the model kits and Black Series, this MAFEX is so good I really don't see Bandai beating it. Hell, it makes me want a MAFEX Jango now since I really don't like the SHF one.
Of course I'm saying that with no SHF Boba in sight. I'll admit I'm a dirty liar when it comes to passing on figures.
So I am perfectly happy with my model kit Boba (which I lovingly painted with all battle damage and wear) but I want a Boba I can pose around on my desk... should I get this RotJ version to spice things up or the Empire version? I love the Empire version and in my mind that is the iconic look for Boba but should I get the other one? I am thinking the model kit would look cool alongside the red bracer Jedi version.... oh so many options almost breaking down and getting both
It you're perfectly happy with the model you can keep it as the ESB version and get the ROTJ MAFEX just to have a different version. But I'll warn ya, once you put them side by side you'll more than likely want the ESB MAFEX too. I was completely happy with the model kit before these hit, and now it's the only model that has been moved to the exile shelf.
That is what I was afraid of...I found them in a japanese site for 42 bucks each and I am about to break...why couldnt figuarts come with Boba instead of Jango?
Honestly, I think even if Figuarts did a Boba I'd stick with the MAFEX. These are about as close to perfect as it's going to get.
Yeah, this is the Boba Fett I want. Makes me hopeful for the Mafex Kylo Ren and the upcoming Vaders.
Same here, if they keep this quality up and can lock down a release schedule they would be neck and neck with Figuarts, if not a little ahead.
Where do you clip on his flight stand? I have the ESB Fett and I haven't been able to find a great spot to clip it.
You just reminded me that I didn't even look at the flight stand, I always forget about those. For the pic I did the clip was tight enough that I just pinched the jetpack in it. I think it's supposed to slip around the waist but there is so much stuff hanging on the belt it makes it awkward.
Oh, yeah. That'd work. Would you recommend leaving it clipped on the jetpack for a longer period of time? No longer than a day or two since I'm always taking it down and taking pictures of it.
Bill Berger I don't think it would damage it but I'd be afraid of it falling out after a short amount of time.

The Fwoosh Yo Sabine when is like Boba fett and Jango fett but a female. SHE has same style HELMET as Boba and Jango and duel pistol s like Jango SHE is awesome.

I absolutely love the model kits but I'd go for the MAFEX. It's proportions, look, paint, articulation, all superior.

Just grabbed this guy off of eBay for MSRP. I would have preferred the ESB version to go with my Black Series Bounty Hunters, but his price is ridiculous now. Luckily, they're similar enough, even if it will always bug me a bit. It's a big step up from the Black Series Fett, anyway.

Oddly enough I haven't had that problem, but I have seen it in some of Medicom's displays at shows. Are they easy to put back into place?
Yes they are easy enough to put back in, just a bit annoying if you have big fingers but it is definitely not a dealbreaker...I love this figure!
There are 3 little holes they plug into so easy enough!
Hmm, I guess I'd rather they come out than break though, my black series Jango tubes (on my first one) eventually snapped after daily use.
I agree with you I like the empire better, when you stand them both next to each other sideways you can even see quite a bit of difference & (IMO)the empire Version Looks Better..(JMO) thanks Robo!.

I have problem with one joint in right arm. It spins front and back, but doesn't aside like left hand. Is there some tips to loose this one joint?
Ooo, in my experience with MAFEX, don't force it. Try to heat it up a bit and then slowly try to get it to move.
By dryer or water?
I usually just use a heat gun or hair dryer, quicker than heating up water and then letting it dry.

The original outfit Black Series Boba Fett goes for a bit of money, last I looked. There are cheaper bootlegs floating around though.

Hey, how about you bash a figure for a change, instead of tempting me to frther thin the contents of my wallet? Haha, those Fetts sure look tremendous. I can even forgive them the shoulder pad attached to the torso. It looks good this way, movie accurate, and really, due to its shape doesnt get in the way so much. Those two figures are so good sculpt-wise, that I hope mafex releaes two versions of Jango Fett at some point as well (for what I know, the jumpsuit has different color on Kamino and Geonosis, and jetpacks are different too - on kamino he uses pretty much the same looking one as the RotJ Boba). Mafex is certainly giving sh figuarts run for their money with current releases (and frankly some shf has been rather disappointing recantly). Now I am impateintly waiting for Rogue One Vader, which seems like first good looking 6 inch figure of the Dark Lord. Finally, after all those years, we might get first decent figure of that character.
Hey now, I bashed on the SHF Jango, and now you go and make me want a MAFEX Jango or two? Yeah, I'd take both there. Given delays I don't think I can wait 10 months for the Vader.

Ayy Medicom fucked up, boba has red kill stripes in return of the Jedi. They're only yellow in empire strikes back
The Special Edition version of the armor in ROTJ has the Empire helmet. That's mostly the inside scene though, when he's flirting with the dancers.
All the special edition changes to boba have always bothered me. For example, in a new hope, boba shows up at docking bay 94 with jabba, wearing his ROTJ outfit, when he should clearly be wearing the ESB armor. The in-continuity continues to annoy me, but thanks for pointing that out Robo! 👍
General_Atheis Oh yeah, that bugs the hell out of me too. Unless he changes outfits back forth season to season. This is winter armor, this is summer armor. On top of that in the ANH:SE the shoulder pads are reversed. I can see that being an homage to the flipped footage from Jedi but I don't like it. Perfect world, the A New Hope appearance should have been the pre-production armor with the yellow left gauntlet, brown gloves, and helmet eyes. That would have established a continuity and another version to sell us in toy form.
The Fwoosh Ive never thought of his outfits that way, as sort of interchangeable. But oh what I would give for a Pre Production Fett. I've always loved that version, and you're so right. In a perfect world that would be it. I couldn't agree more.
General_Atheis The pre-production suit gives me that vintage figure vibe, especially the yellow gauntlet, and that makes me think of playing with it in the floor as a kid, and that makes me happy. Almost happy enough to order another Fett and try to paint it up but I'd much rather some company make an official one, haha.
Why is Boba so expensive? He looks great, but not $50+ great. Neca does work on par, if not better than Mafex and they only go for about $20-$25. Is it just because it's foreign?
