6 Ways Evolution Screwed Us Over

  • From useless wisdom teeth to painful spines, the human body is filled with evidence that evolution is not always kind or helpful. For example, our bony, flexible feet -which originally evolved to help cling to branches- can lead to common, frequent foot injuries today. Meanwhile, since we walk upright, gravity pulls on our exposed testicles and can lead to a potentially excruciating condition called an inguinal hernia.

  • @Agnes135
    @Agnes135 4 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Wisdom teeth don't erupt properly in most people is because most people have smaller jaws. This is likely due to the fact our oral posture isn't as good as our ancestors and the fact that they chewed much harder food. Thus many people have recessed/long faces, rather than faces with high cheekbones and a wide palette/set of teeth. Modern lifestyle has ruined our faces.

    • @LQTu
      @LQTu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Keyboard Warrior You can try mewing. Just breath through the noses, close your mouth and push your tongue up the palete.

    • @Agnes135
      @Agnes135 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Keyboard Warrior You should eat tougher foods, chew much more gum. Practice correct tongue posture

    • @ShubhamSingh-xs6ei
      @ShubhamSingh-xs6ei ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LQTu you're right. I am 17 and I have been mewing since I was 15 and using a jawrizer every week since 16 thinking that my jaw muscle would grow and my face would look more and more chiseled.
      well that of course did help as now at 17 I've have had 2 of my wisdom teeth come out without troubling the jaw bone as it created much more space for it. the only problem was gum flesh above that wisdom tooth that hurt.

    • @LQTu
      @LQTu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShubhamSingh-xs6ei I am 33 now and have 32 teeth. I didn't know about mewing but my mom made sure that my nostrils weren't blocked when I was young so I have always been breathing through my nose. That means my mouth was shut most of the time and my lower jaw grew with my upper jaw. My tongue naturally rests on the roof of my mouth so my upper jaw and also my lower jaw have enough space for my wisdom teeth.
      The only problem is the wisdom teeth didn't come out at the same time so they aren't all straight, like Pisa tower, but they work well. I still have a little gum flap on top of one of my lower wisdom teeth and I can feel it from time to time but no problem.
      My food aren't that hard so my jaw muscles aren't developed. But I do believe that your face will look wider when you get older if you breathe with your nose (look at Leonardo Dicaprio). Edit: and your tongue must rest on the roof of your mouth, or else your face will elongate and your upper gum will show when you smile.

    • @LQTu
      @LQTu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShubhamSingh-xs6ei I just take a look at jawzrsize (you mean this right?). I knew about this device but I was always afraid that it is a bit much. My fear is that:
      1. The front teeth will be overjet.
      2. TMJ pain and teeth grinding because of overworked muscle.
      Of course moderation is key, if you just use it from time to time then (2) is not an issue but (1) is always there in my mind.

    Your wisdom of teeth analogy contradicts itself in that wisdom teeth were an excellent design
    to begin with and the failure of de-evolution was to remove them. So like the main driving forces
    of evolution which is the damaging of existing information in healthy cells , we didn't lose
    what would have been certainly beneficial for how were designed. In fact many people can
    have wisdom teeth that can be beneficial and grow in properly like any tooth.They can also be
    beneficial where people have lost teeth early their life such as most third world countries.
    Like so many of these lack-less homologous based criticisms , with very little effort the "Real"
    purpose can be established if you don't go to incredulous efforts to avoid the scientific evidence
    to support this failing theory.

      Well they have to...
      Syntesising vitamins in our bodies shuld not be done unless absolutly necasarry, our body is allready insanly energy consuming, so adding things to our genetic code that we allready have a natural suply to make little to no sense.
      I feel like people are so spoiled today thinking they can have everything without there folowing severe consequences, just look at our monetarry system that we made to create more wealth then there actually are resources, sure it sounded good and practical short term, but what you end up with, is something that is bound to consume itself.
