    Finally someone who reviewed a base model without all the luxury bs. Thanks 👌

      We've produced a more recent episode on the 2018 F-150 XLT, I think we did a much better job explaining the use case for this truck and it's capabilities: th-cam.com/video/27X_oZea_gM/w-d-xo.html

      Ford did make special order 'farm work 'trucks with even less "luxury". Like no radio. Crank windows. Keyed ignition and both door keyed locks. No A/C.
      You don't do work for entertainment. Oh and it is a bit of inconvenience when the battery dies because the you have not used it for two weeks.
      So you then put in even less convenient things that drains the battery.
      Now you can not remove them.
      Kinda like the tractor. Not used every day. I have had to drive trucks like that.
      Ford did not like it when I was test driving for them.
      The Farmer truck was "The best truck I drove all week.
      But I am absolutely sure the wife would not like it or drive it."
      That really ticked off the female engineer in charge that day.
      But I do not know much. I grew up on a farm. Ford does not make Farm Trucks any more.

    I wanted something that wouldn't rust, had plenty of room for the grandkids, got pretty good fuel economy and had enough power to occasionally pull a small trailer. Had always owned Tacomas, but their comfort and economy aren't there. My 2017 is a crew cab wit 4wd, stx package and 2.7 ecoboost engine. Runs like a scared hound when you need it to, looks great in Race Red. Extremely comfortable too, with the wife a 3 grand kids couldn't have made a better choice, little worried about the turbos down the road, but with 33% of f150's being sold with 2.7 I'm sure rebuilding the turbos will become a big industry prices will fall.

      Sounds like you picked the right truck! I think turbo failure mostly affects performance-oriented vehicles. I know many of the turbo BMW's recently have issues, but those are almost always abused. With proper maintenance and regular driving habits I'm sure it will be fine!

    This truck is as basic as an XLT comes. It's a 300A pkg. You can get a 301A and 302A pkg as well on the XLT. It's funny you say it struggles to get on the highway. If that's the 3.5L Ecoboost that truck is waaaay faster than the Ram with the hemi. The 2.7L Ecoboost is faster than the hemi.

      Raymond Bezy I thought the same thang kinda funny how they allways say the ram lol EcoBoost destroys the ram

      We had the chance to review the 2018 F-150 XLT with the 3.5L EcoBoost a few months ago and found the power delivery much better: th-cam.com/video/27X_oZea_gM/w-d-xo.html

    Also the review was very well done, would have never known you weren't a truck guy, until you said you weren't. My theory is pickups have replaced large family automobiles and much more useful, women seem to love trucks and I've always thought women were much more practical about vehicles than us guys.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely seems to be the way things have been going! There's a lot more on the road and they're quickly becoming a popular choice. It's still good to know you can get a good 'Work Truck' instead of ones loaded with luxury.

    What farmer buys a Ecoboost? Never seen a farmer use anything without a v8 or a inline 6 diesel.

    • @PRNTestDrive

      Not sure which market has a Ford inline 6 diesel, but it isn't Canada.

    I have a wife, a 17 year old kid and a 90lbs dog. I am looking to get a pickup truck sometime next year 2020. I have watched your videos to try to see which would fit our needs best. The trouble is most all reviews focus on towing. My situation is a little different. My primary purpose is to haul the family and commute to work daily ( about 60/40 city/freeway) nothing extreme, and only about 50 miles a day round trip). The truck aspect is for the occasional trash haul, or helping someone move, or getting plywood at Home Depot for some project.
    With all that being said, I want the most comfortable room, best fuel economy, reliability, safety and price. What is your recommendation?
    Thank you..

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had the chance to drive a lot of pickup trucks over the years since doing this one way back. If you're looking for good hauling numbers the mid-size trucks might surprise you. I recently drove the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 and it had a better payload rating than the full-size Nissan Titan I drove earlier this year.
      Alternatively something like the new 2021 Ford F-150 with the PowerBoost engine might be a good way to save on fuel with the plug-in hybrid system. I'm hoping to get my hands on one of those soon to see how it is!

    I was wondering how the truck behaves in the snow with the non slip axle. is the 4x4 good?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately we didn't have an opportunity to try it out, the snow we got during the week with this truck was pretty light. The 4x4 is good for getting out of sticky situations like the mud field we decided to shoot in.

    I have a xlt 2017 xlt 5.0 V8 and I've had the 2014 F150 Sxt I love the 2017. It's the vehicle I've picked out to drive till it's not driveable no more.

      PRN Will the sync 3 infotainment system be offered with the xlt trim? The front row middle seat. After a person raise the middle seat. How do u flip the bottom cup holders over? Love the video! I've seen this xlt trim on thd street 4 times today. Bottomline this will be the level f150 I'm gonna get! So I would like to know whats offered?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sync 3 is offered as part of the 302A package ($6,600CAD). As for the the underseat cup holders, you access them from a latch that flips the bottom of the seat upward, then the cup holder plastic clips into place with a release latch.

    The no frills work truck is the XL, not the XLT. And even the XL has too many options and technology on it these days.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true, however we ended up getting this one to review so we made it work.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Especially when pickup trucks these days are trying to compete as luxury vehicles, most people just need them to haul payload and fit workers.

    How tall are you? The cab looks small

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm 6 feet tall, but I was standing closer to the camera and further along the front of the truck compared with the cab, so that might be why it looks smaller than it really should.

    You can speck an xlt supercab with an 8ft box:)
    The only work truck has an 8ft box.

      Thanks! We wanted to do something a little different with this one, hopefully most will see the humour in it as you have. But we also feel that the working truck is underrepresented in auto journalism so we wanted to give it a fair shot!

    That is not a No-Frills Work Truck, My 2017 XL is. Standard V6, 2 wheel drive, 6ft bed, 100A electronics package. PS you need a key to open the door and start it.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's very true, they do make an even more affordable option, however the XLT seems to be the most popular for single-buyers, whereas I can see the XL being a good fleet option when bought in bulk.

  • @AgateBlackST

    where is this truck from the xlt truck looks like an xl truck with xlt badging

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was a fleet vehicle, however the VIN did show up as an XLT. What's missing to make you say that?

      @AgateBlackST 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      PRN the grille for one I also only see either xlt chrome trim or sport trim models I've only seen that grill on v6 xl models

      non ecoboost v6s

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could it be different options for different markets? We seem to get different things here in Canada. Otherwise it could be due to it being a fleet vehicle, different options to keep costs low.

    • @tommytruth7595
      @tommytruth7595 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the package it has. Other XLT trucks have different options on them.
