XLT sport package is excellent, takes many of the lariat features (bigger screen, heated seats, etc) at $10k less. Can always put a leather interior in for around $1k later on . Black interior and Carbon fiber trim looks way better than the fake wood grain of the lariat too, imo.
I did exactly that in my F150 and I LOVE it! I literally juts finished installing my Katzkin leather an hour ago. The carbon fiber look looks way better than an wood trim Lariat IMO. 302A, and Ecoboost 2.7 or 3.5 is the way to go :) I had the 3.5 in my F150 Tremor and did the 2.7 in this one and the 2.7 actually feels a little quicker. Incredible trucks! Buy one!

I guess this is what happens when a hipster tries to sell trucks... man I'm glad I got out of murfreesboro/Nashville. There are way more differences than mentioned, you're just trying to sell a lariat over the xlt and make a buck, the 5.0, 2.7, and 3.5 ECOBOOST all come standard on.
XLT models and lariats. The 3.5 non turbo v6 is not very common in those trims. The only real difference is the leather and the grille.. you hit that one, but for the sake of 10k, you'd be dumb to pay the extra 10 for a different grille, leather, and cooled seats. The XLT has pretty much all the same creature comforts as the lariat. Not to mention, you didn't talk about axle ratios or anything else of that nature... or the 5.0
That 3.5 NA that comes standard in the XLT is actually new, Ford threw out the old 3.7 NA in lieu of the NA 3.5, now in the XLT you can get optional the 2.7 TT, 3.5 TT, or 5.0V8. The Lariat gets the 2.7TT standard but options for 3.5TT or 5.0V8.
Biggest reason I got Lariate is the 4wd Auto and the LED head lights. I don't really care about the leather but it's standard on Lariate.
I have a fully loaded XLT 18 inch chrome wheels chrome grill it's fully loaded only thing it's missing is the sunroof and leather seats and a few other features nothing major I'm happy with it it's a very nice looking truck

Buy an XLT with the 302A package and add a Katzkin leather kit and save yourself about $10K. The XLT has the end of the year rebates and you will save BIG! You can buy an XLT that is pretty much loaded like a Lariat for a whole lot less.
Mr. Ford-Man exactly what is have. A 2015 XLT upgraded with towing package, extended range tank basically everything besides cooled seats, and leather and a sunroof
You can easily get a nicely equipped XLT for the base Lariat price and get everything but Leather if it's a 2013 or newer. From 2013, HID headlights and leather seating come in the 501/502 option packages anyway. At that point only exterior color options draw the line.
Lariat, when you want to blow $100,000 on a truck. XLT, when you just want to buy a truck and don't want give up a kidney to get one.
Biggest gripe is that Ford will not allow a 4x4 Crew Cab 6.5' bed with the 2.7L. Would have to drop to 2wd or jump to either the Coyote or the 3.5L EcoBoost.
Why no mention of the 5.0 L, 385 HP V8? It will outlast any of the V6 engines that will constantly be overworked. I'll take a 302 CID over a 164 CID in a truck every time.
jsl5570 I've seen an entire fleet of ecoboost trucks last over 250k and still run perfectly. Where I've seen 3 of the new 5.0's blow up in the trucks alone less than a year after purchase. One of them was towing and the other two were racing. Where I've been hard on my 3.5 since I bought it and it still whoops the V8's ass and turns over perfectly fine

If you spec an xlt (302a?)with most things that are standard on the lariat, which is the better buy?
Lariat, the Lariat gives you more for the same money
actually heated and cooled seats come standard on the lariat, and the mirror caps differ from lariat to xlt, by that I mean XLT can only have black carbon mirrors but lariat comes standard with body color mirrors that can be upgraded to chrome.
to be honest, the infotainment screen, digital gauge cluster, 4A, and winter package should be standard on all trims, that are 4x4, ford would sell more trucks while keeping production costs in check.
Had a 2016 Lariat with the 502a package and moon roof, nothing but one big rattle and all the extra electronics, touch door locks, push button start constantly malfunctioning. The cooled seats never worked right also. Had for less than a year and traded in for a 2017 XLT with the 302a package. Both have the 5.0 V8 engine and 3.31 rear end. Actually prefer the cloth over the leather seats. You can upgrade to aftermarket leather if you prefer. Didn't get the moon roof option and not one rattle or squeak on the XLT. The XLT seems to ride and handle better than the Lariat, could be the difference between 20" on the Lariat and 18" wheels on the XLT. Both are 4X4 also. For the Thousands of dollars difference between the two, in my opinion the XLT with the 302a package wins hands down.

Love my 2017 Lariat 4x4, no rattle, quiet ride, love the leather smell and look, rides extremely smooth. Zero complaints on my V8. Love it.
Took a 17 xlt 3.5 Eco boost 10 speed crew cab 4x4 out. I wasn't thrilled. Powertrain seemed like it lagged or jolted. Suspension was bumpy. Maybe I should try the 5.0l out.
Living in texas I’m past even wanting leather again , plus after owning both cloth holds up much better over time. Neither for me I think stx is the best value out there . Stx comes with 8 inch touch screen , flow thru console .I can’t even justify the cost for the lariat , when the stx really has everything you need minus a few things like padded arm rest , the led lit cab I can live without , same with heated seats , upgraded audio for that matter.
Brother..the biggest difference is PRICE? How much? Answer it.

So... different grill, leather with cooled seats, wood trim, and 8” dash screen. Everything else can be the same as far as options. Personally I don’t care for the wood grain and grill on the lariat. XLT FX4 lightning blue with leather and a sunroof 😎 302A with chrome package. Beast mode for just over 50G MSRP
There are a couple of big differences that weren't mentioned between the XLT and the Lariat. These are things that are only available as an option on the Lariat.
1 Climate Control
2. LED Headlights
3. Electronic dashboard
4. Position seat memory for 2 drivers
5. Rear Center Armrest
6. Power folding mirrors and 7. Push button start! The first two are the biggest differences in my opinion. I have the XLT with the 302 package and I hate the halogen headlights and wish I had Climate control. Otherwise I love the truck
I noticed you didn't mention the 4A, or the push button start. I wish ford would put the 4A in all the truck trim levels like GM does, but I get why they don't to keep cost down on a "work truck".
Those are both valid points: good differences to point out and the reasoning behind them. Ford does make these vehicles for different kinds of customers.

i looked at the Platinum and thought it was great. i don't want all that chrome however. from the brochure i got from the dealer i see that a Lariat Special Edition with 20" wheels will work for me. i can only get the 5.0 engine however because of the snow plow package i am interested in. i would have liked the 3.5 Eco Boost.
When you say the words " behind the steering wheel " in reference to the screen you look to your left and turn the corner. Is that a stop sign your not stoping for? Sure looks like one.

You need to know what you're selling! I have a 2016 f150 xlt 302a package with heated and cooled cloth seats!
4x4 A on the Lariat is among the biggest differnce to the 4x4 H on XLT. Even Ford dealers do not know that.

What he did not tell you is the 2.7 comes standard with auto start stop technology. I had one and it sucks. I trade it back in for the 5.0 and love it.
ASS is now standard for 2018 models (except the 3.5 NA). Also, there are several ways to permanently disable it.

That is correct, XLT doesn't offer 4A
lariat is the nicest truck but I like my XLT grill better plus I love my 2.7 TT .

In 2015 Ford did away with the Fx4 truck and went to and Fx4 package. Any truck made since with an Fx4 package is going to be a 4x4

I bought my Supercrew F-150 in May .. The biggest thing I wanted was an " Engine " The 2. and the 3. was suspicious to me .. A supercharged hamster will always have more problems .. I want a motor !! and it had to have the biggest Ford offered .. I paid exactly 39,999 .00 . no more no less .. Has more buttons then I ever wanted and it fells like driving a luxury car and yanks my trailer with no problem .. I know others wanna get a 4x4 and my reasoning is ' Why pay 10 grand so I can have a sticker on the side with 4x4 .. I live in the south and the only time it would be engaged is pulling others out of ditches ..

That, cooled seats, and push button start would be the only things a 302a XLT would not have. The digital screen is cool and all but the regular 5" center screen will have all the same functionality
xlt comes with 3 bar grill..lariat has thinner bars in the grill.
Flatzout my 2017 Lariat has 3 bar grill.

Not good compare the 3.5 engine is new you said old 3.5 pfft 2.7 real world mpg worse then 5.0 look online from multiple sources 2.7 didn't win engine of the year solely cause the real world mpg suck. Turbo engine needs more maintaince get an xlt with a 5.0 that's the best bang for your buck
The lariat has more horsepower and 100 ft lbs of torque more than the XLT and the only difference is the engine! lol that was funny to me.
You can't get leather in xlt
Clarification: you can get leather seats in an XLT but only aftermarket, which is one of the more common upgrades for the truck. But you are correct that you can't get leather seats in an XLT from the factory

I had leather seats. Put on my XLT for $1000. The leather is thicker than the factory leather .
