  • In this week's video, Tom explains his colorful screen close to his house. The main reason for the screen is to block the ravine from the house located close by. The deer love to use this area as a travel corridor so screening this will allow deer to travel this spot year round. We definitely had to protect these shrubs because the deer love to browse on all of these cuttings. We also used ground cover to suppress the weeds and drip tape to easily water the shrubs from a central location!

Hi Tom. Any recommendations for where to buy and installing drip lines?

@boyceball we purchase our drip lines from a local garden center. The products name is Aqua-Traxx and has emitters every foot. Works great to water long lines from a central location. We will have a video soon to explain the drip lines-Stay tuned! Seth

so the fabric stays the life of the plant? does it biodegrade?

You can do either or. I have left fabric in a silky willow line that is 6 years old. You will have to expand the fabric surrounding the stump over the years to allow enough room for the trunk/base of the shrub to expand properly! If you want to remove, I would wait until after 3-4 growing seasons before removing the fabric. The fabric will not biodegrade naturally.

I like that a lot. This is what I had planned for my screen this year. I want it to be both functional and colorful.
I plan to do op-367, dappled, red osier, yellow twig maybe some hybrid willow and elderberry.

Great video. Those are some beautiful shrubs. I've planted all but the yellow twig.
