    I’m an intense snacker so I make a nibble plate. It’s a small plate where I place blueberries, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers slices, banana slices, and then sometimes some light weight crackers with cream cheese or goat cheese that I have to spread on to the cracker each time I wanna take a bite of one. This allows me to snack on a combo of different nutritious things and is aesthetically pleasing to look at. Currently making one now to eat while I play video games with my friends. It’s better to mindlessly munch on something nutrient dense rather than potato chips.

    Another thing that I only recently learned that ALWAYS made me feel so awful is the fact that for women, weight changes throughout your cycle. You will be heavier towards your period and then lose the weight for many reasons after. But because that isn't taught as common knowledge, I thought I was failing. Don't be afraid to let yourself rest during this time!

      Tbh while this is true, statements like these shouldn't be promoted. There is a difference being overweight due to an unhealthy diet and no exercise and weight gain due to other factors like diseases, medication and genetics. For example, my father's side of family is on the overweight scale, while my mom's family is more lean and active and as a mixup I gain weight quite easily and my metabolism is relatively slow. While it is important to look at general trends in the society, it is also important to take into account the "outliers".

    Heavy training leads to a cortisol spike the new day(s). A cortisol leads to water retention. So it's normal to feel puffier after a particularly tough day of exercise.

    • @LinkEX
      @LinkEX 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +74

      There's also the concept of adapting your training regimen to your menstrual cycle.
      For instance, during your period you might crave sugar, but along with that your body gets better metabolizing carbohydrates, so carb loading before a workout should provide you with more energy than usual.
      And during that phase, training in general, but particularly aerobic exercise during your period can also help against cramps and back pain due to the endorphin release.
      Conversely, when you are ovulating, there is more testosterone in your system, so that period is the best for building muscle.

      This week, I watched an interview with a glucose expert who talked about ozempic in a very interesting way. She basically said like "okay, people are having trouble with food, so they made a medication to make them not hungry. It's the same as if we discovered there's a substance in water that's causing health problems, and we develop a medication to make people not feel thirst." Ozempic is treating the whole thing in the wrong way. I understand it can be a good short term solution for some people, but they usually experience a rebound in weight gain and glucose spikes once they stop taking it, so what's the point? What we really need is to start having a healthier relationship with food and with our bodies, in order to take control of the situation.

      @samanthapetersen1587 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah. my grandma’s diabetic. she was on ozempic & it was working for her. then everyone else found out about it & now there’s a shortage where people who already have 8 meds to survive (like literally keep breathing) can’t wait around for their insulin aid. that really pisses me off bc I noticed her mood & feeling better, but now she’s back to being normal sick bc she had to change the medicine in order to still be in something consistently. also, i have different meds & totally understand the shortage thing, so I was extra mad for that.

    "Because the way I felt about the way I looked prevented me from enjoying my life as a child" THIS IS TOO REAL. like people often just tell you to not just care about how you look. but looks play a huge role in your life and if you look good, YOU FEEL GOOD. being ugly does not "build character" it just makes you even more miserable which destroys your character. Becoming good looking actually helps you build your character.

    • @Pieza_De_Queso
      @Pieza_De_Queso 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      No. Becoming comfortable in your body builds character. Being able to creatively express through your body builds character.
      Good looking is external validation seeking, not really based in true self esteem and self connection.
      It's completely fine to want to look good amd to look, however, it doest lead to self steem in itself. Looking good cN be taken away by accidents, by changing the environment, by a change of the beauty standards..."Looking good" is controlled by the external and it doesn't build anything

    • @kris8772
      @kris8772 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OMG THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING .

    • @vivwest
      @vivwest 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@Pieza_De_QuesoYou can dress up an ugly person all you want, but they’re still ugly. Character might be there, but ugliness overshadows everything. When you’re beautiful, your character shines more naturally because everything’s more harmonious. Trying to be 'creative' with someone unattractive often feels off. so it is impossible to be fully comfortable if you don’t like what you see.
      Wanting to look good isn’t always about seeking validation. Some of us just want to feel good about ourselves, and that’s not a mental disorder like some mfs like to say. We want to wake up confident, knowing we look damn good. That’s self-esteem. Self esteem not some forced 'self-acceptance' bullshit where you pretend you are okay with what you hate. Not everything is tied to beauty standards, we have personal preferences on how we want to look.
      Self-esteem and appearance are deeply connected, and confidence alone doesn’t fix a lack of good looks. Yes, looks change, but so do personalities. Everything fucking changes over time. It’s true that beauty can be taken away by environmental circumstances, but honestly, if being ugly was my starting point, I’d rather have acid thrown on my face than be ugly for the rest of my life.

    Two things that I would personally add;
    I’m personally a big fan of intermittent fasting because it pointed out to me how much I was snacking in the evenings because I was bored or just for the sake of it, but having an eating window really helped me be more mindful of when/why/how I’m eating! Obviously if out with friends or a one off it’s not a big deal to eat outside your window, but on a general day to day routine I’ve found it really helpful!
    Another thing I’d say is to always keep body types in mind when focusing on weight loss and to stay realistic. A good phrase I heard for it recently was to remember that a Labrador isn’t supposed to look like a Greyhound; ideal fitness and health looks different on everyone depending on your body’s structure and it’s important to hold yourself to your own standard rather than someone’s else’s definition of beauty!

    For me personally, brushing my teeth before I sit down for the night helps me not eat. Once my teeth are clean I usually don’t want to eat anything. Also, since I love binge watching shows, i’ll do chores/organizing while I watch tv. It helps to move around more so when I do get to finally sit for the night, I appreciate it a lot more and don’t look for snacks because i’m enjoying the relaxing.

    So, a tip for me is: Eating in smaller portions makes you eat naturally smaller portions as it goes. i went from two packets for a week to one packet of crisps to none and just 2 biscuits in 2 weeks. Even watching your diet is such hard effort but so worth it, don’t give up!

    I have suffered from bulimia and anorexia in my teen years. Starting at 19/20 years I was still very skinny then gained a lot of weight going through therapy I felt like I had finally overcome the ED however I gained a lot of weight. This year on my 25th birthday I weighed at 75kg since April I had changed my habits completely.
    I have walked 10k steps a day, eat clean and in a deficit, stretched and even get back into running.
    However I think the most important thing was finally letting go of fears and deepression. I literally felt once letting myself loose the weight there was no issue. I am now stuck at a platoe on 64kg so thank you for the reminder.
    My goal is to reach 56kg before my 26th birthday.

    I used to be obsessed with corn chips and chocolate chips. I had a really badly inflamed gut, was constantly craving sugar and didn’t understand how to not want these foods. My whole life when I was hungry I grew up eating snacks like this. Also this stemmed from being a vegetarian when I was younger as that is how our family ate.
    As I got older when I started eating meat I began to do different research on diets.
    Fast forward years later, I have literally figured out how to finally Lose all the excess weight, not punish myself, eat freely- and that is because I’ve adopted a keto lifestyle. I make all my food at home. They also have keto bread now so I can even eat sandwiches that fill me up because they are full of fiber.
    I started focusing on my protein and fiber intake and carbs last. If I go out somewhere and want to eat something with carbs I no longer punish myself for it, but between eating this way, taking supplements to balance my hormones and healing my gut with colostrum I am no longer bloated, use the restroom every day, and am continuing to see the scale drop. I have lost 15 pounds in just a few months.

      I wanna hop on this comment and say that keto is not for everyone BUT a lot of people will experience the same benefits on a high protein diet without going full keto! I eat high protein and try minimise the amount of sugary or quick-carbs I eat (unless I'm having a diverticulitis flare up, then I will eat chicken and mash potatoes while my body settles, I think quick carbs are great for illness as long as you aren't stressing your body out with too much sugar :) ). This has completely stopped my hypoglycemic episodes, I don't crave sugar anymore and I can eat it in moderation. I personally have a higher-fibre diet because of my digestive issues. Chia seeds, nuts, lots of veggies (raw, when I'm having a good time with my tum!) and lots and lots of fruits with skin on. I have kept off 80lbs, however this was not the diet I lost it with, this is just the diet I've felt has made me feel more energised and less inflamed + maintained my weight really well.
      I still eat honey daily, I still have potatoes with dinner, I still will eat a slice of toast in the day if I'm using it as my carb for lunch. I just make sure all of my meals have 20g~ protein give or take, with a protein-y snack alongside fruit in the day. It can go a long way :) My protein sources are: protein powder, cottage cheese, milk, protein snacks, nuts and seeds, lean or fatty fish, chicken. :)) I personally avoid red meat as much as I can as whilst I'm not lactose intolerant, somehow red meat is my biggest issue when it comes to digestion. The other thing I'd say is don't fear fat!! It's so good for you in moderation when you're eating it from the right sources. :)

    I also started dieting around 11/12 years old. I wasn't overweight, just a bit chubby, but I was always a perfectionist and started comparing myself to other kids around me, as well as online. I quickly got obsessive about dieting and developed anorexia because I finally found something I was completely in control of myself: my body.
    After then being forced into recovery around the age of 16, since I became deadly underweight, I developed binge eating as a way to escape the potential hospitalisation that was used as a threat against me by my psychologist. Because of both of these extremes of eating, I complete lost touch with my body and hunger clues.
    Now, at 19, I started a new weight loss chapter by mainly focusing on working out more to repair the damage I've done to my heart and metabolism over the years, as well as focusing on eating healthier and according to my bodies needs - not cutting out sweets and chocolate completely, but rather seeing it as a last resort.
    I'm finally starting to see my body as a part of me that does its best to carry me through life, rather than an enemy that is working against me. And so our communication is getting better day by day.

    Omg I agree with this so much! We are taught never to even discuss body with young girls, lest they develop an eating disorder, but isn't over eating junk food also a form of eating disorder? Isn't it going to lead to unhappiness and then having a massive problem to solve, that they aren't equipped to solve, which is, losing weight? Thank you for finally saying this. More people need to learn the right way to talk to young people about this.

    7:54 My personal experience with portion control is basically calorie counting. I spent a few years being very precise with my tracking and this helped me to learn to estimate how many calories certain foods have. While this method can be disordered for some, for me it helped to give some peace of mind that my meals are sufficient and eventually I learned the approximate amount of calories that I should eat at a time. So even if I'm not tracking these days, I no longer outrageously overeat.

    • @soilhen
      @soilhen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same for me! Only difference is that calorie counting was disordered for me since I did it while having anorexia, but now that I'm trying to lose weight healthier (without counting) I can still use this learned knowledge to decide between foods and know what the calories of foods mean considering the overall picture of my daily intake.

    I never comment on a video but the way you talked about our relationship with the food, really touched me. Its so important to have a healthy relationship with food. Its all about balancing your diet because as you said, restricted diet cannot be forever.
    You need to have it balance it out as I have also come to know that once you start doing a routine with your body, you body will adapt to that habit. So for example if you are eating way less calories then your body will only burn that much fat as it will start to store energy for the low level of calorie you have.
    So its good to have a balance in your diet so that your body can adapt and burn fat that way.
    Thank you so much this amazing tip

    As an adult, I finally recovered from my >10 year eating disorder of binge restrict and purge (at less regular very low points in my life) cycle by deciding i would just allow myself to eat what i wanted. There was a switch in my brain that went off and realised that after all this time i was never able to maintain thinness anyway and that food was taking too much of my mental space and limiting my life success. After a alot of experience and self reflection I suspected that if i stopped guiting/shaming myself things would get better. & when i was truly genuinely accepting this for myself, allowing myself to eat whatever i desired and then observing the shame that would start to creep in and denying it to have a hold over me, i found that i no longer wanted to eat the emotional crutch foods anyore. I also looked at photos of plus size models who really looked great to change my mindset. It turned out that truly the whole cycle was driven by shame. Without the shame whilst bingeing, i could actually experience what was going on while i was eating the food. & i found it was too much too sweet not actually enjoyable at all. Of course i initially gained weight while doing this but once i no longer wanted to binge it balanced out and i have been a healthy weight since. I know this sounds absurd and unreal, i remember my best friend who has a healthy relationship with food worrying that i might be making myself sick and saying "are you sure this is a good idea" and i had to give her an extensive talk about how important my mindset was in that moment and to not contribute in any way to creeping shame. I'm not telling anyone to do this, the point of my story is that eating disorders are very individual and the cause can be v differentn from person to person. Mine was psychological, which is the hardest to know how to resolve, and psychological issues that are at the root of an eating disorder can differ in themselves. Maybe some people just need to learn portion sizes and the importance of vegetables. Maybe it takes years of failing to diet to develop this deep nuanced understanding of self. But I hope someone will read this and think carefully about their personal situation, which might be very different to mine. At least realise it is so important to know yourself, and not to be too influenced by others explanation of how to lose weight etc.

    I have been struggling since I was 10/11 years old with my weight. When I was even younger I was very overweight and my mom used to say things like ''U shouldn't eat this much give it to ur sister'' and she kept making me feel bad about my weight. At that time I didn't care but when I was 10 I started getting upset when my mom said those things, she also kept track of our weight and she used to put the notes with our weight on the fridge so every time I went in the kitchen I felt more and more insecure. I tried many team sports but I didn't like any because of my social anxiety, it made it hard to make friends, so I always felt left out. When I was 11 I started to grow fast making it seem like I had lost weight but I still felt fat. Now I'm 12 and I'm not overweight but I feel ugly and fat because I keep comparing my weight to my sister who is much shorter and thinner than me. Also, the girls in my class are chubbier than me and get bullied and sometimes I feel like I am the same as them (no hate to them, they are very beautiful girls). Now I am exercising at home and trying to eat less.

    • @mesCheerios
      @mesCheerios 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm really sorry. You are just a baby and you are at an age where eating well is important. Some parents don't know how much their words hurt their kids. I'm sure you are beautiful, honestly adults need to remember that everyone develops differently and 99% of teenagers and kids go through awkward developmental stages so we can NOT say there is a certain way we can expect kids to look. Kids all look different. Also, keep in mind that teenagers get very hungry because they are growing fast all the time. Make sure you eat vegetables and eat well, get exercise, and don't start obsessing over food. The only thing that will make kids overweight is eating fast food regularly and eating junk food like sweets every day. Make sure you eat well - that way you will be able to develop properly hormonally so your adulthood will be much healthier.

    Finishing the food after I’m full is def my worst habit. It’s so weird, I feel guilty if I don’t finish it while it’s warm/fresh. But then I still feel guilty that I ignored my hunger ques. Honestly just a frustrating feeling that’s taken long and hard to work through.

    this is a very helpful video, i grabbed a pen and a paper to take notes, because you can easily forget the things you learned if you're not writing them down and documenting them and i hope everyone start doing that too because its really helpful if you're looking to make a change in your life for the long-term , its so great seeing people sharing their experience on their journey, thank u so so much, I'm looking forward for a part 2 !!!!!

    this summer i found out that i am prediabetic and so i started my weight loss journey. i've lost about 15 lbs so far, which is pretty good, but i've also noticed that i just feel better. i don't feel bloated all the time, i don't feel lethargic. it's so great. and focusing on these indicators of health has been better for me tbh than the number on the scale, because i know that weight can fluctuate and is more of a way to gauge health rather than a definitive factor. it's been such a journey and i can't wait to feel 100% again! 😇

    I love everything that you said in your intro. Flowery words don't do a bullied kid any good. It's not like we can just escape our bodies, we're carrying these damned things around.
    It's like telling teenage girls not to worry about porn or sex either because they're too young, sorry but porn is everywhere and adults need to give kids the tool kit on how to deal with a lack of self confidence by giving them real ways to deal with it.

    I learned about apps and calories counting ... It really helped me. That and the exercise in the gym, with little cardio but more weight, helped me lose weight and also get my body in shape. I love my new style of life. I feel good at the gym and also know how to eat well.
    When I was younger my diet plans were really toxic. So don't do it like that, you don't have to say NO to your favorite food, you just have to know when and what you are going to eat the rest of the day.

    In the first 3 minutes when you talked about adults enabling you with “you’re fine just the way you are” … wow. That really blew my mind and is so important. Had to subscribe right away.

    No one gonna see this but I felt the need to but in with a couple observations about eating healthier:
    I've found that giving myself permission to have "junk" when I'm out and about makes it easier to keep it out of the house so I stay on track with my food plan and sometimes the permission keeps me from even wanting to eat something not on plan.
    Staying hydrated and with water nearby helps too. Usually my munchies is just me being thirsty.
    I've also found that the hardest part of keeping on track is the out right sabatoge people around me seem to be trying. Either consciously or not, especially family seems determined to keep me eating "normal". Even when I explain how horrible eating "normal" makes me feel. I come from southern USA btw. Processed food, fast food, and copious amounts of sugar are normal here and anyone trying to eat in moderation is labled as "sick". I was asked if I had cancer for a few months before my muscles started filling in even though I looked completely normal and no longer bloated.
    Also, old farmers will occasionally try to set me up with their sons or grandsons now. Which is weird but thats old southern men for ya. They mean well.

    In addition to putting plateaus/slight gains into a greater perspective, I really shifted my thoughts about a plateau. Rather than a failure, I started to take pride that I was still sticking in the same range for so long. It shows that weight is sustainable and lets my body get used to that weight before trying to lose anything more

    One of the main things that I have learned to focus on is how I eat and what I eat. Losing weight isn’t about only losing weight. It’s about choosing a better life for yourself that you love and are comfortable with. It’s not only about being skinny and pretty, it’s also about making sure you feel good about who you are and comfortable in your skin. What needs to be done is creating a food plan. Not something that’s restricts everything you eat, but one that allows you to live and eat comfortably. Learn to eat in moderation. Be active. Go on walks and move your body. Everyone’s body is different. You need to do research for yourself. What works for you and discipline yourself and make that your lifestyle. Don’t feel like you have to cut everything out of your life just to lose weight. Even though I’m 15, I have managed to learn this and I am feeling much more confident for the long run of my life. ( as well as I’m going to the national guard or military to teach myself discipline and to better who I am. )

    i guess people who eat healthy or exercise focusing on losing weight or to be pretty are fated to fail because the frustration is bigger, the changes are slow and its hard to be motivated when you dont see fast results, when i started to exercise and eat better foods to "be a happier person" seeing those things as self care and not obligation or "work" to do, then i started to see its easier than i thought. I exercise to prevent myself to feel pain in my bones since i have arthritis, i exercise and eat better to sleep better and to feel less stressed in my everyday life, and i dont go to the gym, i practised martial arts so it was fun! Now im doing pole dance and dance classes, its really enjoyable and it keeps me motivated, prevent depressive episodes and i interact with people who inspire me. I think even if you dont have access to classes, people could at least try dancing with videos they see on internet, 10 mins two days per week is where i started and i dont regret
