I'm old enough to remember that he, the father was ran out of a church in the south because he got a 12 year old girl pregnant!! He beat Aretha's mother like a dog, cheated on her constantly with women in every church he was over, and I strongly believe that he molested all of his daughters!! Aretha's mom finally got enough strength to leave, he wouldn't let her take her daughters, but he allowed them to visit her in the summers. At that time there were no laws protecting women and children from domestic violence. I lived in Detroit at that time and it's always been rumored that he was Aretha's children father, he was a satanic snake !! The father hung with all of the big time Gospels singers, was rich, had powerful people like Clive Davis as friends, so everyone was afraid of him, when he was shot it was no suprise.

Get your FACTS straight! Why are you indicating that she had a romantic affair with"legendary Sam Cooke" when she actually liked his brother, Cecil? See Sarah Jordan Powell's dairy to further understand how females were treated while traveling with male groups? Aretha is still Queen of Soul as far as I am concerned. AND leave Sam Cooke out of it! He was a friend and business man to Aretha! Obviously, I love the music they both left for us to enjoy in 2024!! This is from an 82 year old woman who lived through the era when they were top singers!
