You need to invest in a LockNLube Grease Coupler.
Locks the nozzle onto the zerk.
No more need for a 3rd hand.
    Well worth the cost.

When I was young I did all my own work...now I"m 70....and I let the mechanics do ALL the work, Heck the dealership even washes my van for for, for as long as I own it....So I don't even do that anymore...but I DO take donuts for the guys who do the washing...they don't get a whole lot of appreciation!

With age comes wisdom, or in theory it does. The donuts are the key to great service. I used to be a mechanic and people that brought donuts got top notch service. They were put first in line and got charged the least amount of money.

As a heavy duty mechanic I couldn’t imagine life without one. Not sure how the old times faired out back in the day but I got some zerks that can take up to half a tube of grease on some equipment till it’s actually full. I’ll still use a hand pump one though from time to time with a needle tip to repac some sealed bearings or small articulation joints. Lol I never knew you had to turn the pull back lever on the gdewalt grease gun to push the rod back in on a new tube of grease haha I learned something new today so thank you for that. Always thought that was kind of weird but I just rolled with it and assumed it didn’t require it like a hand pump does

I have a lot of equipment that needs to be greased and the one advantage of the battery powered grease guns is that I am more likely to do regular greasing with it than the manual guns. Stupid as it sounds, I find that the battery powered guns are cleaner and faster to use, so I'm more likely to take the time to do it.

I’m really enjoying the great vids Josh. Over here in the U.K, I love my mcnaught K7 mini lube but I do like the idea of the battery greaser although if they had the option I would prefer a 12V version that you hook up to any machines battery so no chance of running out of power.

I used to have one of those small-size grease guns, but the tubes are the same price as the regular size, with a fourth, or less, grease.
The pistol-grip gun (regular size) is my favorite, too. One hand on the tip, one on the grip, zip zip!

  • @gpax-6197

Absolutely correct about lubrication. I’ll spend two hours greasing before brush hogging. An hour before baling hay. Other than changing fluids on your equipment as required it’ll keep your equipment running with fewest repairs and down time. Good video.👍

  • @bcgrittner

I did it manually for a lot years. Then I got a compressor for a low price (it failed two years later). Meanwhile, I bought an air-driven grease gun. Along with a new compressor, the air-driven grease gun made life much easier. But, I need to be within reach of my retractable air hose in my garage. For me, Mr. Suburbanite home owner, an air driven grease gun works. But, if you need to be portable, that Dewalt battery-powered grease gun is the way to go. In a farm application, I can see it as a cost-effective tool.

  • @rstelzer2928

I have several different ones, but the 20 volt DeWalt is my go to. I use the lock n lube coupler others have recommended. I keep a regular coupler and a 90 degree coupler with whip hoses and a zerk on the other end to attach to the lock n lube, for situations where the L&L won't work. Store your grease with the pull tab end down, it will prime easier

Josh, cool video! I have a pistol grip grease gun with a Lock N' Lube grease coupler and I love it! The electric one makes sense for big equipment maintenance if your constantly greasing during the day. Great video...makes me want a cordless or even a pneumatic grease gun now. I've always had that weird fear that I'd end up with grease all over everything but what I was trying to grease with those electric or air operated grease guns LOL. Looks like they're easier to control than the manual lever or pistol type....I've found the regular manual type grease guns don't seem to ever dispense the same amount of grease consistently. You might get a lot of grease in one pump and the next pump may not get much if any at all...each grease gun is different though.

Also, I hope, many different KINDS of grease too. Especially for bearings, which require very specific types and viscosity greases. Just like specialized fluids have different weights based on purpose and tolerance, heat and speed, etc... The wrong grease can totally wreck equipment.

  • @JimsNBHomestead
    @JimsNBHomestead 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Josh there are two types of grease you need on the farm EMB or electric motor grease and EP2. Believe it or not ball bearings don't require EP grease and it actually can shorten a bearings life. Now bushings need EP grease which stands for Extreme Pressure. Electric grease guns can lead to over greasing in bearings, so don't go nuts. Now farms would probably do best with a Lithium Complex formula of grease. For electric motors a polyurea grease or just lithium. Bottom line greasing is great but do so sparingly and pat attention....Great Video Josh

I love Dewalt tools and have numerous ones. However, I was always hesitant to spend the money on the grease gun. Two weeks ago I purchased a new and my first tractor. I bought a decent (I thought) grease gun at tractor supply for $50. After reading reviews on it I returned it and decided to buy the 20 volt max Dewalt. $199 at tractor supply, minus $50 for the return, minus a 10% coupon and no sales tax since we’re a registered farm equals $129 out the door. This included the charger and battery which alone is almost $99. I have plenty of the batteries but you can’t have too many. As I expected it is an amazing tool. Now I don’t mind servicing all my equipment that requires grease. Buy once, cry once.

Cold weather, moisture, humidity is not electric grease gun friendly as well and especially if you bring wet dripping equipment into the shop. Can't leave an electric grease gun in the cab of heavy equipment in cold weather and start pumping away. This can strip gears and burn motors out. That's the drawbacks of electric grease guns.

Depends on the application when you have to drag yourself under trailers and prime movers to grease because you work remotely and don't have access to service pits cordless grease guns are a pain in the ass and it's easier with a manual one.

I saw those too, at tractor supply. The only use I could imagine is for folks doing lubrication on tractors for a living. $140 plus $80 for a battery. And I can’t see it being a lifetime tool any more than any other desalt cordless tool is lifetime. (Which means I am saying you are lucky to get 10 years. )
I do agree, never get a rigid hose on a freeze gun

I have 22 year old dewalt tools that work just as good as the day I bought them. Most folks that already have DeWalt cordless equipment wouldn't need to buy a battery. Price actually dropped to $127 on Amazon...I'd say that's a good deal....I'll let ya know in 30 years when the tool quits lol.....it's handy and well worth the money in my book....saves time and frustration for the cost of a nice dinner out with the family...man...can't do anything with $100 bucks any more...that's a half bag of groceries nowadays! Nuts huh?

I’m a DeWALT guy but I like the Milwaukee grease gun the best. Its smaller than the dewalt. I would not suggest Lincoln. My shop has gone through countless amounts of them and could only get them to last about a year. The Milwaukee is on year 3 and still good as new.

I prefer my old lever grease gun over my 20VDeWalt. I do NOT need two hands to get that Ventrac 4500Z center fitting, I hold the gun against my leg or hip, one hand on zerk coupler, and pump with the other hand. Same for the two drive shaft zerks, the front one being a real challenge.
