    Hi, a member replied with the heat shield being installed backwards. I will confirm because I assembled it as you show and the heat shield was rattling in the turbo hitting the turbine wheel. You really need to update this video. It caused a lot of work for me to have to remove the turbo only to flip over the heat shield. The heat shield is concave so the high part of the shield hits the turbo body. You didn't reply to the viewer who mentioned it earlier. Maybe you will this time. Thanks

    What happens if you overtighten the main nut? My rebuilt turbo doesn't work and I'm thinking it's because I gave it a 120* turn because I marked the nut and the compressor wheel and lined it up. I also think it could be oil starvation as I used an old braided feed. I couldn't feel any play before installation

    Hello, I watched your video and I liked how you showed a turbine overhaul. I have one question: did you need to balance it? Thanks

    @iceverything.j.r.2564 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    How bad did that sound when you started it. The heat shield washer is backwards that things going to rattle around till it chews its self up and hits the wheel.

    • @callumh4423
      @callumh4423 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just followed his instructions and started the car, to say the rattle was bad is an understatement. It sounded like a cat dying. Have to strip and redo the shield the right way.... Also because the shield is in reverse, no boost.

    Excellent video. I have always wondered how much air comes out of the blower turbine once the turbo is running. Can you do a video on that please? would love to see it. Thanks.

    I'm sorry sir, at 6.07 you said lock the nut by 1/4 turn, how about the balancing marking, I noticed the front wheel getting turned as well as you lock the nut, I've been in that case multiple times and the marking will not be in correct place

    I've a GT1749V 140BHP but I've had it since remapped to 200bhp I've always replaced the cartridge core myself, but do you know if I can upgrade core to GT1749VB straight swap? Or what other options are there without getting into big money like GTB1756vk etc.
    Really would appreciate your advice ✌️

    Is the compressor wheel in this video stock size, or is it larger? I know the factory compressor wheel in this turbo is not 6+6 blade.

    None of the Video's that I have watched, including this video, talk of the side to side shaft 'play' which to the novice appears to be excessive play. When the engine is started and there is oil pressure, all is fine because the shaft and bearing are on a cushion of oil. Anyway, this is a good video.

    • @Usercouldnotbefound
      @Usercouldnotbefound 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends if its a ball bearing or journal bearing mate, ball bearing will have no side to side play unless its shagged but the journal bearing your talking about will have...but most turbos are floating bearings anyway these days

  • @error-hb1mq

    Have yoy realised that you have installed the heatshield in the wrong position? That means that it will not press against the variable noozles so no matter what, you will not get the expected boost. I refrain from any other comments.

    Was there a O-Ring on the exhaust/manifold/housing to cartrage? I don’t see one on mine? How does it seal?
    Also broke one of the torx bolts holding that vnt mechanism, will it be a problem just to put two? Looks like it sorta floats around anyway ?

    Hi! Thanks for the video. How do you remove the front collar from the compressor plate? Also, what is its purpose? My turbo is spilling oil in my intercooler on a ALH 1.9 TDI 2003 jetta. I rebuilt it, just like in the video but did not do the front collar because I was afraid of braking a the fragile aluminium compressor plate by removing the collar. Now its still spilling oil. Help appreciated, cheers!

    Thoughts on using oven cleaner for cleaning the turbo to get rid of code 1557? The fins quit moving and it looses boost because the ring is dirty and it can't adjust boost accordingly? So what are your thoughts on using oven cleaner?

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never heard of that, my set up for blasting parts I have spent about 16k on equipment, I wouldn’t use oven cleaner here that is more of a do it yourself method if you have a lack of access to the tools needed to do the job

    • @ericcunningham4701
      @ericcunningham4701 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turbolabamerica type in Mr muscle Volkswagen turbo and watch the 4 minute video. Tell me what u think. There's no way the oven cleaner can seep onto the air intake side is there? I couldn't believe there's a rubber seal on the turbo u rebuilt, I figured a turbo gets pretty hot for a rubber seal.
